Does Colo really want to leave Newcastle?

Tyneside days numbered for Colo?
Tyneside days numbered for Colo?
There is no way you haven’t seen the rumours regarding Fabricio Coloccini apparently wanting to leave United.

If you have missed them then where have you been?

There is an awful lot of confusion about this. The general consensus appears to be that the rumour is true, with the Evening Chronicle seeming to verify the reports, but there are other outlets around, such as BBC Newcastle and the agent of Coloccini, who are saying that it isn’t true.

You can make up your own mind but I guess the only way we will find out is by giving it time, which is something we don’t have too much of in a January transfer window. I would guess the teamsheet at Carrow Road tomorrow may give us a clue and if Colo isn’t involved I’d say that is pretty much a confirmation that something isn’t quite right.

Personal reasons and a rumoured split with his wife are being mentioned, but then there is that word again – rumour. Wouldn’t it just be best for the manager or the player or the club to come out and say something to clear it up one way or the other?

Colo leaving us now would be very much like a rat deserting a sinking ship. Happy to sign a lucrative new deal less than 12 months ago when things were going well yet when the going gets tough he seemingly wants to quit.

The problem Colo has is that the club who are rumoured to be after him – San Lorenzo – wouldn’t be able to offer us enough money to make a deal worthwhile from a club perspective and they also wouldn’t be able to offer him anywhere near the salary he currently receives. I want a Ferrari but my finances don’t stretch that far and San Lorenzo are in a similar situation.

Undoubtedly it is bad news which means that it is usually true, but I don’t think it is as clear as the press are making it out to be. For some obscure reason I still think Colo will be a United player come February 1st but that is only a gut feeling and I’ve been hopelessly wrong with those before.

Time will tell I guess…

  1. **** OFF!!!!!! – that Sissoko story better be a ******* lie or I think my head will explode man!!
This window is our worst yet and were only half way through for ***** sakes.

Dave – that’s was my point like. Yes the board ****** up in the summer, but we can’t pin everything on that. Mind in saying that, we really should have more than just Debuchy in by now like – I mean WHU have 4 in already and I would say we are in far greater need of new recruits.

  2. Just a thought–Is a Championship level defender that much worse than what we’ve got? Stats wise, Leicester have given up the fewest goals in that league. They’ve got a 24 year old, Ritchie de Laet, who seems to start constantly for them. I think he’s a loan from MU. Couldn’t/shouldn’t we pick up a player or two like that–someone who’s playing weekly and is still progressing?

It’s the bullshit that kills me. First Pards is saying a couple in before Norwich now it’s last 3 days of the season .Now where have I heard that before…oh wait a mo…

  4. FSOTC – I rate Grant Hanley at Bburn mate, yeah you’re right in what you’re saying but I’d hope with our scouting system and our current predicament we’d consider all options.
What concerns me is that CBs haven’t even been mentioned yet.

If Colo’s wife is ill ,wouldn’t the club allow him some leave of some sort ,none of this m,akes sense…………

Exactly, and if she’s been ill, why was it necessary for her to travel to Argentina for treatment? Aren’t the medical services in Newcastle good enough?

Luke Edwards in the Telegraph is one of the journos feeding us the “illness” line:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/9796970/Newcastle-to-retain-Fabricio-Coloccini-as-captain-as-Alan-Pardew-seeks-to-help-player-battle-homesickness.html

and he’s saying that the two children have been left behind on Tyneside, which seems a bit strange. If she had needed hospital treatment, for example, wouldn’t she have been better off in a hospital in Newcastle, where her husband and kids could have visited her?

The article also mentions Colo’s keenness to go back and play for his old club San Lorenzo, which seems a bit far fetched – it just sounds to me like a lame attempt by his dad to give a “dignified” explanation for his son’s curious decision to leave.

I also don’t buy that story about him and/or his wife suddenly becoming homesick. It was only a few months ago (October) that the local press were running the story about him putting in a planning application to modernise his new luxury home in Jesmond: http://tyneandwear.sky.com/news/article/43533 so they obviously weren’t feeling very homesick at that stage. Quite the opposite, it would seem.

The other story that I’m not buying into is the suggestion that he had a huge row with Pardew about team tactics and simply doesn’t want to play for him any more. If there were any element of truth in that, then why wouldn’t he simply hand in a transfer request and try and find another club in England, or maybe Spain, instead of buggering off to Argentina where he’d end up earning a lot less money? I thought the money factor was quite important to him, seeing as how he allegedly donates a large proportion of his wages to a charitable foundation over there.

I’m afraid none of these stories that we’re being fed by the media ring true with me – the only explanation that really makes any sense is the one that Troy mentioned @158

  11. Kim – completely agree. If his wife is ill and he’s wanting to care for her, why is it do urgent he joins San Lorenzo?, and I read on SSN app they but a deadline to the decision – harsh under those circumstances you’d think.
Also, if his wife is ill, surely she hasn’t just taken ill this week?!, so why is this an issue mid transfer window?!
I’m struggling to see how the club can come out of this window with any level of success, the Scum are being heavily linked with Graham and Sissoko today, 2 of our potential targets (so were lead to believe). If the scum get those players ahead of us it will be a disaster

I liked Sharpys comment. If we hadn’t encouraged Colo to shag everyone’s wife he would still be with Mrs C. 😛

Do we think we can sing the same song for Shola? That might eventually get rid of him. 😛

I hope Jonas doesn’t replace Marv.
If he does then Marv will have a right to take out a formal grievance. 😯

I really fear a big defeat today could sound the death knell for Pards. There are too many jumpy jacks twitching and putting too much pressure on him and the board to replace him.

Yet, no one has come up with a realistic sensible replacement.

Come on Pards you can get a win!!!

  13. Troy I cant see Ashley gettinf rid of Pardew. And I really hope he doesnt. We need stabillty and Pardew is a good manager. He isnt the greatest but he isnt the worst and maybe given some time he might build something here. Agree its a big game and I really feel with players coming back a win could jump start our season. Just have a bad feeling for today though. Would take a point.

Troy have you consider getting some double decker carriages they use in Europe, the reality train would double in capacity but be the same length. The really worrying thought is asked my 22 year old son what we should do with our season tickets if we go down i am so proud of his answer “we stick with our team through thick and thin” I have raised him well, but why that worries me is that is what senior figures at Newcastle expect. 😕 😕

As dissatisfied as I’ve been with Pards this season, I agree, we simply wouldn’t find anyone better to replace him at this time under this regime.

So best to stick with him till the end of the season and hope he comes good.

I think with the players we have coming back we should start picking up a few points. But that will only happen if the players start fighting for the cause.

I think Norwich will really be up for this and morale at the Toon won’t be too great. If Norwich score first I see us falling apart.

I also think it might be the last straw for Pards.

Ashley could then sack him. Take two weeks to find a replacement, and then say we didn’t sign anyone because the new manager didn’t have time to identify his own targets – letting him get away from another window without any investment and a load more turmoil.

I fear a 3-1 defeat here – I just cannot see us having the confidence to get a result down there.

my main concern with pardew is, looking through the teams he has managed so far in his career, that it all tends to go downhill after 18months/2years.

W ham (almost relegated them) / Charlton (Left near relegation in the Championship – later relegated) / Southampon (Failed to get a promotion in Lg 1)/

    Us ? See West Ham

  22. Point about previous teams is that we are on the same track as those teams he’s managed.

    Going nowhere fast.

But I agree with the people that say under Ashley the best of the best managers wouldnt touch us with a barge pole.

      (Quote)

  23. @BigPapa – The problem is not that the best of the best managers wouldn’t work under Ashley… it’s that the worst of the best wouldn’t either. And the best of the rest would probably give us a swerve, too.

That said, Moyes almost took Everton down after first flirting with the top 6. He wasn’t sacked amid fan unrest and look where he and Everton are now!

  25. The “players sticking by the club when we got relegated” theory is bollocks. Noone would take them for the prices fatty wanted/ the wages the players wanted.
But Colo seems like a class guy, if he has family problems (btw boyhood club in relegation scrap is NOT personal problems), what can you do? Telling him to “man up” isn’t going to mean these problems go away, and he won’t be there mentally on the pitch.
If he leaves we’re as good as down though.

  27. When Collo first arrived at the club he was really poor for a 10 million pound defender. Big minus
Then he started to pick himself up, but was still part of the team of losers and wasters who got us relegated. Big minus.
He found his true level in the Championship, and was part of the team that got us promoted. Big plus.
He had a good first season back, and made the EPL team of the year. Big plus.
This season he has been battered several times, Suarez absolutely pulled his kegs down at Anfield, Stoke battered him recently, Everton knackered him recently. Huge minus.

He signed a nice big juicy contract. Big plus for him…

Maybe he is just returning to the norm ? He isn’t the fastest centre half, and poor in the air. He is however a fans favourite, and fans fawn over him as he cannot do anything wrong, and will forgive him anything football wise.

That the club have decided to build the defence around him, and haven’t invested for the present nor for the future in a critical position is down to the knackers in charge.

3-1 defeat today, and the slide continues.

  28. BLIP – But Moyes never fell out with his best player/Captain over how awful we are and how we’ve turned into a long ball team so there was no need to turn.

We can all see AP has not stuck with what wentt well last year, we’re going backwards and haven’t developed a style of play at all becoming predictable in everything we do.

If Moyes had a history of being sacked when it all went tits up after 2 years he would of been sacked!

  32. Johno – Yep exactly, his tactics and record go hand in hand, because last year we were about being defensively resolute and direct in attack, this year it needed evolving and he has failed to do that, as the stats about long balls per game prove.

So over time he will always fail.

  33. Get him out and go after a Brendan Rodgers type.

A div 1/2 team has put us out of the cup under pardew 3 seasons in a row, if we had a better playing style we’d beat them teams. We got passed off the park by Brighton (twice) Stevenage (was it?) Scunthorpe. Then the **** teams in Europe that we struggled against. Maritimo, Brugge, the team we played to qualify, and getting thumped off Bordeaux.

    We need a better style.

    I’d take

  34. Lawro’s prediction
    Norwich v Newcastle
These are two more teams who are both badly in need of a win.

Norwich are on a run of four straight defeats and are in a mindset where they are thinking decisions – like the penalty they conceded against West Ham – are going against them.

In the Premier League, you cannot afford to think you are being hard done by; you just have to get on with it, and focus on the next game. By hook or by crook, Norwich need to stop this run.

Newcastle have problems of their own – I am not even sure what sort of team they will be able to turn out.

The Magpies have lots of injury problems and they are also going through a phase where they are conceding lots of goals.

Again, a draw is not much good to either team, but that’s what I’m going for.

    Lawro’s prediction: 1-1
    😕

      (Quote)

  35. Big Papa – I have been saying for a while, that we really need a continental coach to improve our style of play.
Pointless bringing in foreign players with good teckers, if we revert to hoofball all the time.
Pardoh doesn’t have the right coaches with him either
Old school cloggers all 3 of them.
Martinez is not everyones cup of tea, due to his results at Wigan mainly.
But with our better players, I think he would have us playing far far better and the results would improve markedly.

What exactly have you seen that gives you this blind faith.
He has epicly failed in every department, and dragged the club backwards.
He has no idea how to get the best out of the players he has, be they current internationals or younguns with potential.
His match tactics beggar belief most of the time.
    He is utterly clueless.

A team srtucture like this that would see the team create more chances and put the emphasis on passing will help our bettter players especially Cab, Benny and Cisse, Cisse being a real poacher instead of working off flick ons after Krul has hoofed it! 😆 😀

  44. I love all the “I told you so’s” on here. It is not too much of a jump to think we could and should have picked up at least 3 wins and a draw out of the games we have lost this season, even with injuries etc. That would have put us on 30 points and only 6 points off 6th. I think most, including Lambarse and myself, would have thought if it goes wrong it won’t go much more wrong than that.

Unfortunately it has, for a number of reasons. Now it is Pardew’s job to sort it out. Support him and let him get on with it. To Big Dave and the rest, the whole team won’t be sold, we’ll get rid of the one’s we want to and a few in exceptional circumstances. Ba wanted off for a top 4 team, fair enough. Collo is not a leader and is still suspect, even though last season and sometimes this he has been great, he is also great mates with Jonas who also seems a fading force- end of an era and rise of another With Debeuchy arrival that solidifies Cabaye’s position (may be soon to be captain) and longevity at the club. Krul, Debeuchy, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Anita, Cisse they are the players to build around, even others like Tiote could go really.

Pardew needs to turn this around, which I think he will, and then we will kick on towards being a regular top 8 team, with a few highs and lows along the way over the next few seasons. We’ll see players leave and we’ll see some come in. And I reckon we’ll see everybody up and down the club learning season upon season and that’s what it’s all about.

Almost sounds like some on here don’t want Pardew to turn it around so they can tell us “I told you so”. Admirable trait.

Is it because he doesn’t spout constant shyte in all the media. 😳 😳
Is it because he doesn’t attack linesmen and make an embarrassing joke about it. 😳 😳 doh… 🙁
    What ❓

A somewhat bizarre response from you to my statement about Martinez. All of those things you point out are true of Pardew, but have NOTHING to do with Martinez 🙄

I do not think that Martinez has it to manage a top 8 club, which is where I see us. Cannot say 100% why, it’s just a feeling I have. I would welcome him if he moved to the toon, but he wouldn’t be my ideal choice. Just the same as I wasn’t convinced of Pardew’s appointment.

Before you ask me who would my ideal choice be, I have no idea. The limiting factor would be more who would be likely to come ?

What concerns me more is that for some reason we seem to have complete break down across the board this season, from bairns to first team. If that could all be changed with a magical swish of the magic wand a managerial change brings with it then I’m not too sure. I think it goes deeper than that I fear.

      (Quote)

  49. I have a feeling that if Pardoh were allowed to take us down, then he would NOT be fired immediately. He would be given even more time to see if he can bring us back up.
After all the damage will have already been done by then.
Would be best alround if we dont get into that position.
So who is scoring for us today ?
Did Pardoh say he was reverting Cisse to the center forward role finally ?
Hopefully if we can thread the ball thru to him, he will score.
Not expecting too much from Cabs, so the burden of responsibility will mostly fall onto Anitas little shoulders. We really need him to have a great game.
Hopefully Marveaux keeps his place too.

  54. Newcastle’s U18s are 2-1 up at half-time thanks to goals from Greg Olley and Adam Campbell but the bad news is that central defender, Remie Streete has gone off injured – nobody was near him when he broke down.

So you think sacking managers after one poor season is the way to success? If that was the case Fergie would have been sacked 23 years ago and Moyes would have left Everton after only his 2nd season.

Where has sacking managers left, right and centre got us in the last 15 years?

  57. The best chance we have of getting 3 points today is with Shola being suspended. Gonna have to play football for a change.

  58. Stuart : I’ve said this before, Pardew unlike the two you mentioned has a record of failing after a couple of years in the job. He’s been here for 2years.

Haven’t improved one jot. Last year has been proved as a fluke. Luck. One off.

  59. Why do we restrict our recruitment to France ,why not look at Belgium ,Norway and Spain ,why always France 😕 Seems to me we leave ourselves with too few options just targetting one Country. I know we got Anita last year but mostly we are linked to Frenchies ,very odd .How many gems do they hope to pick up for nowt in one country 🙄 plus every other ****** is after them and that just makes brokering a deal twice as hard.
Norway produce some hard Ba&£@*@S who ain’t afraid of the cold either ,why not look to their league.

  60. One great season, one horrendous season. pardew deserves another year. Struggling to cope with Europe and.league happens to lots of clubs of our size.

  61. Stuart – I agree we need stability, but you need the right man 1st and foremost, do u 100% believe AP is that man?
How would you see us in 2 years under Pardew?

He hasn’t developed the younger ones / a style of play / coaching methods / and Carr does the scouting so he cant take any credit for that.

He bought Santon and Obertan. Well done on Santon.

Probably about 15/20 teams in the league will out pass and out play us.

    How is that right?

You can’t expect everyone to over achieve but you can’t accept AP under achieving either
