Game On! Norwich v Newcastle

Canaries v Magpies
Canaries v Magpies
Newcastle take on Norwich this afternoon in what is a battle between two teams that have lost form in recent times.

In fairness Norwich went on a ten game unbeaten streak prior to their poor run, a luxury that hasn’t been afforded to Newcastle United this season.

I was going to write a match preview for the game, as I usually do, but my alarm clock either didn’t go off or didn’t wake me up so unfortuntely I haven’t had the time to do so. In a brief kind of preview though we are awful at Norwich generally, we’ve been awful all season and the stats don;t look pretty. That just about covers it really…

Dominating the build up to the game has been the stroy regarding the future of Fabricio Coloccini. Personally I think a big indication will be his inclusion, or exclusion, from the team today. I reckon if he plays then things may be getting blown out of proportion but if he doesn’t, what with being fit apparently, then something could be amiss and we may have to wave goodbye to the club captain.

Speaking of team news, it’s looking a little bit better on the injury front as Yohan Cabaye may make an appearance at some point today, Papiss Cisse will play and there should be a debut for Mathieu Debuchy after his signing from Lille just over a week ago. You can of course see full team news below as and when it becomes available.

Being a Saturday 3pm kick-off means that unfortunately we aen’t being broadcast here in the UK. However a rake of overseas channels are showing the game so hopefully a stream will be available. Normal rules apply, those being that if you happen to find a decent stream don’t be shy and share it amongst your fellow NUFC fans.

Which just about wraps it up. Will Newcastle manage to secure a first away win of the season or will we be faced with more travelling woes come full-time? We shall soon find out…

Howay the lads!

  1. Formation today seemed to be 4-5—-1. Where was the support for Cisse? Poor lad was chasing shadows all afternoon…

  2. @F8Piraux: Sky Sports understands that Newcastle United are moving closer to signing Loic Remy from Marseille. #NUFC #OM

  3. Shock horror, the goals have dried up after we sold our best striker since Shearer. Nothing sticks to Cisse does it, some of his movement was promising and yet there’s still only average supply going to him.

Perhaps all those that thought Ba was the greediest player alive can appreciate the work he did in build up play now, we can’t seem to get the ball in the box. Even when Anita or Cabaye, our creative players have it up the pitch, what do they do with it? They loft a through ball for Cisse…come on lads this isn’t fifa 12.

    Horrific performance. 1 point terrific!

  5. I would say from these 3 games…. 9 points – impossible. 7 points – great. 5 points – what is required. 4 points- absolute minimum acceptable. Still a lot to do Pardew.

  7. We got a point but both sides were horrible. We couldn’t get the ball to Cisse. The midfield was weak, corners were hopeless. If Colo goes what will we do at the back? A shambles really. 21 points from 22 games.

  8. Our service to Cisse let us down today, it was like no one told them Ameobi wasn’t playing. Also what is up with our throw ins? I was counting, and we barely kept possession longer than five seconds after each throw.
Its a good job they had Tette in their side, he was by far the worst player on the pitch.

I also thought Cisse was horrific 😯

Only consolation for Cisse was he had nee service. 😯

I thought every player, bar the defence were utter ****. 😯

  10. It all comes down to the game against Reading because I can’t see us getting 3 points against anyone else right now. The Aston Villa game could easily be another draw similar to this one with 2 weak teams playing each other. I thought Santon and Colo were decent today, Marveaux not bad, Debuchy is just getting started. The 4-2-3-1 didn’t really work with a weak midfield.

  11. Fck this league table doesn’t look to great!

Next week is massive, especially as I think Wigan and Villa could beat WBA and Mackems respectively.

Need Remy and another in by next week.

      (Quote)

  12. Norwich could have been beaten today if we had any kind of decent attack at all but we don’t. Huge worries ahead if Colo leaves and nobody comes in.

  13. Surprise surprise after that gash display we are last on MOTD tonight. Won’t be staying up to watch that

  14. I thought for the first game in a long while Krul looked the keeper he was last season had nowt to do for a long whilebut when called upon he was excellent . Debuchy looked solid and for his first premiership game deserves praise Santon and Perch were good as well . The rest was quite frankly Gash though i cant fault Cisse ,the lad kept running and running without any service what so ever . Cabaye when he came on showed glimpses of what we have been missing . Oh how we need HBA back in full flight , until then i expect more of these performances .

Mind, if Colo has personal problems, as captain of the club, if he wants to leave, he needs to tell the fans that it has nothing to do with the club or manager.

It’s absolutely atrocious if he doesn’t.

  16. Pardew said the pitch was lively and didn’t suit flair players. Surely that was to our benefit with Williamson hoofing the ball upfield

      (Quote)

  17. Is this the latest excuse, the pitch was too lively? How far have we sunk? What’s next, we don’t like how the sun shines? What about Pardew used the wrong flavour of mouthwash? Get back to work Pardew. Shut the cakehole and demand more from the players.

      (Quote)

  18. Well although the performance was gash how many of us would of settled for a draw before the game ? I suppose a point and a clean sheet could lift the defenders morale a bit after the hidings we have had . God we need 2 or 3 players in this week though ,i **** me self every time the ball goes near Williamson .

      (Quote)

  19. Is the owner taking this seriously yet? If not when does he plan to start? We’re clearly weak at several positions. Jonas looks to be finished. Willo never got started. Anita needs a big partner to win more balls for him and some time in the Prem. Obertan was fairly hopeless again. Too many of these type of players at the club.

      (Quote)

  20. It was hard to watch. Both teams were very poor. Poor passing all over the pitch, poor set pieces and particularly poor corners. And this is the best league in the world? Don’t think so. Many of the players are technically very unskilled. Couldn’t trap a bag of cement as they say. We had no attack whatsoever. Norwich were there to be beaten but no chance with our attack.

Colo needs to clear matters up. He has a responsibility. If its the club or personal problems then he needs to say.

It’s not fair on Pardew or the club.

      (Quote)

  22. Obertan ,Williamson and Jonas all need replaced this week . 1 is past it and the other 2 are Champioship standard at best . Their was a couple on the bench that need got rid of as well ,Amalfitano and gangster . Lets face it Pardew does not want too give eitheir game time or 1 of them would have got 10 or 15 minutes today and Tavs and Sammy Ameobi need loaned out for the rest of the season too .

    @axel

Obertan, Williamson (tho played ok today) and Jonas defo need replacing.

I’ve got a soft spot for Jonas cos he has gave everything for the cause since he came but from day 2 I have bleated on that he is not good enough.

I got ridiculed but that doesn’t bother me. Some don’t see the light until they find the switch.

You still stoking the Furness on the reality train?

I’ve been doon Marley Hill pit in Gateshead collecting coal.

Should be with you soon! 😉

  26. Did Krul have a shot to block? Aye, his interceptions over the head of Grant Holt and his general play was good, but he wasn’t exactly tested into making any saves or anything. Inconclusive really as to how good he is but did all that was required of him. Troy, I thought Jonas at least made a few runs down the wing today and was more like the old Jonas, but his crossing and end product is gash.

      (Quote)

  27. batty, they will be saying the same about us…next up we play the team on the worst form in the league.. 👿

      (Quote)

  28. Yes we’re bottom of the form table again now. Agree with you about Colo Troy. He must make a statement now to clarify. He owes it to the club and supporters. He’s been good for us but he has also been paid very well and has been treated first class by the supporters.

  29. Newkie,

And that genius conclusion comes from one game against Norwich?

Ba would have contributed nothing today either.

How can anyone dare criticise Hughton?

He can hold his head up high in Newcastle for me.

  32. So Colo and the Regime are sorting it out this week I just hope they hurry up so we all know where we stand, as it’s one more distraction we don’t need

  33. well i hope its not tomkins in as c/h he got a right doing by the scum imo, going by radio like, never was keen on him to start with,he has as much pace as richie

  34. Troy – agree with all your comments this evening.
Hughton was no worse than the clueless gobshite we currently have.
Colo needs to man up and make a statement as to what his intentions are.
He didn’t do much wrong today either.
Re your earlier comment about Wigan being odds on to get relegated.
I think we are more likely than them

  35. I’m a scout, everyone! (Or I’m too sick to leave the house and am just watching lots of games this weekend…)

Osasuna is 19th in the Spanish league, yet they have conceded the 4th fewest goals in the league (tied with Real Madrid). They have a 23 year old center back called Alejandro Arriba, #14, who plays regularly for them. Why aren’t we going after him?

You, too, can scout him here: http://dazsports.info.tm/987654 Osasuna vs. Real Madrid–surely should test any center back, right?

  37. DEDE yes saw the game very poor i think

DAVE i think we were lucky to be honest we never looked like scoring imo if they had scored we would have crubbled, just dont understand his tactics at times mate

  38. well i recon he hasent been the same as lately i agree eneyway with u he has been playing bad a good lot

  39. I thought Debuchy done ok for his 1st game in a new country and new league, I can see allready how he got the name The Dog as he does like a tackle,

      (Quote)

  40. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew:

“I don’t want to comment too much [about Coloccini]. It’s club business and we will talk to him this week.”

    On the match:

“It was a more favourable result for us than for Norwich as they were the home side. It was two teams that worked hard and restricted the opposition.

“For us it was important to get a clean sheet. We worked hard in the week and it showed.

“I had the luxury of putting some senior players on the pitch and the result showed that. That was a key game. We have Reading at home and Aston Villa away coming up so it is an important time for us.

“Hopefully, we will bring in a couple [of new signings] because we need to be a lot stronger.”

      (Quote)

  41. Debuchy did get beat once and gave up a shot but he looked solid if unspectacular, I thought. I didn’t see much of the marauding full back I remember from the Euros. Probably take him a little while to get settled in.

      (Quote)

  42. exactly Big Dave.
I find those comments from him quite staggerring
What does he take us for.

      (Quote)

  43. BB I understand that he has to try to protect the players and he doesn’t want to run them down, but the problem I have is that it ends up looking like he thinks the fans are stupid with some of the stuff he comes of with and expects the fans to buy it, I have said several times that he has to be careful he doesn’t turn the fans against him because no one likes being BSed too.

      (Quote)

  44. so every man and his dog knows Colo has asked to leave the club, yet we are expected to believe the club will not hold talks with him until next week.
    Like shyte.

      (Quote)

  45. Just the flu, brother Dave. No big deal.

I keep hearing that so many Spanish clubs are in bad financial straits. Shouldn’t we be using that to our penny-pinching advantage?

What I’m getting at is GET THIS PLAYER!

Now watch him completely **** the bed…

      (Quote)

  46. I don’t know, as bad ad we’ve been, it’s not realistic for us to expect the team to magically revert to last year’s peaks. It will take some time to get Cabaye readjusted and Debuchy settled in and start getting service to Cisse, won’t it?
