Fee agreed for Remy

Closing in on Remy
Closing in on Remy
Newcastle United have agreed a fee for Marseille attacker Loic Remy, according to club president Vincent Labrune.

The fee agreed is believed to be in the region of €10m-€10.5m (or £8.2m-£8.7m in good old pounds sterling) which by my reckoning would make Remy the third most expensive signing Mike Ashley has made at Newcastle following the purchase of Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse.

It is understood that Remy, who supposedly said goodbye to his soon-to-be former colleagues prior to Marseille’s game against Sochaux, will now travel to Newcastle to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of sealing a move potentially as early as the start of this week.

“We have reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle and we have given Loic permission to hold talks with them. We are now waiting on developments,” Labrune told AFP.

Meanwhile former Magpie midfielder Joey Barton, who now plies his trade at Stade Velodrome, took to Twitter to have his say on the matter. He basically said that a move to St James’ Park would be good for the player and wished him the best although if you want to read the actual words they are quoted below.

“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don’t worry I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy”

The “I’ve told him what to expect” part could be interesting given Barton’s well publicised falling out with the United hierachy… Of course I may be being a little sceptical there and Barton could just as easily be talking about our fanatical fanbase.

The 26-year-old would add some much required attacking versatility to the squad. Remy can play as a striker, winger or one of the wide attackers in a front three, which is how I see him being utilised with Hatem Ben Arfa on the other side firing in the chances for central striker Papiss Cisse to knock home. In an ideal world anyway. It was clear at Norwich on Saturday that we need some creativity…

It’s not a done deal yet, not by any stretch and a potential medical issue with the players heart may yet come into play, as could a failure to agree personal terms, but I don’t feel the latter will be too much of a problem. It’s not often agents don’t know what kind of deal is on the table before a player travels to complete the formalities. I doubt the heart problem will be a problem either but you never know…

hopefully we’ll have confirmation soon enough…

  1. Why would Krul want to go to Milan when he is at such an ambitious club run by a forward thinking trio such as Ashley.Lambastard and Pardew? Madness I tell ya!! pmsl

  2. SSN reporting bid made for LB Haidara 😯
Does this mean Sabnton to RB and Debuchy to CB to replace Colo ❓

  3. GG It wouldn’t surprise me if Krul did want away he was one of the players that came out in the summer and said we needed to strengthen so who knows.

Mark yeah I know mate and Wolfie was never as arrogant either, but they would make good mates all the same 😀

Stuart well atleast we know now

  4. Haidara has already rejected us TGS. He wants to go to Italy. We need more focus on the important signings Llambias. Derek are you napping again? Too much wine last night? Ahh the good life Derek. But then you deserve it after doing such a good job for us. Why not just take a permanent leave of absence? Nobody would notice. Honest Derek.

  5. To be honest with ya Dave Id not give any of our players a hard time for wanting to jump our sinking ship at the moment,we need something positive to happen and soon.If he does go maybe their coaches can show Tim how to kick a ball out and actually go to one of our players, that apart he is a cracking keeper and hope he stays but ambition is something to be admired in anyone, are you listening Ashley….ambition for this football club, not to aquire yet more bolloxs brands to issue ya tat to the masses.

  6. Who is the most incompetent manager in the Prem, Tony Fernandez or Mike Ashley? It would appear to be Fernandez at this point but Ashley still has time to pull out all the stops and take the title. Will he do it or will he regain some composure and save the season for us? Still not sure where our owner’s head is.

  7. I for one aren’t fused we didn’t sign remy. He went to qpr for the money , and fair play to the lad , butwould rather we signed.players who want to be here. Now i know people on here will use it to bash the ‘regime’ but fact is we stick within our budget. And im in favour of that regardless of how many targets we miss out on. We will bounce back from this run of bad form. We will not be relegated. And I bet we will have learned more this season about the current crop of players than last season. We will re group and some back stronger next season.

  12. Probably to make it look like we are making some kind of effort in this transfer window, remains to be seen if we get the extra bodies we need Shamrock, fingers crossed we manage to to get something other than lame excuses about how hard we tried but just couldnt complete any more incomings

  13. GEORDIETWO @ 460 I would say Fernandez is only trying to protect his investment so to me that doesn’t really make him incompetent .

Now for me Jabba had a chance in the summer to strengthen his investment and kick on but he decided to Gamble again and weaken the team and his investment so to me that would say he’s the incompetent one .

GG yeah they were dark old days, but then most things in them days were a bit darker, You remind me of someone else with what you say but I can’t think of who it is 🙄 did you post under anyother names or on other blogs in the past ❓

  19. TGS – I am not too sure about free fall but there is without doubt a huge downward momentum currently surrounding the club. That can change with a signing or two I am sure but I honestly believe our best players will be having their heads turned and the lack of success in the transfer market both in the summer and now will surely have a negative impact on the morale.

But like I said a signing or two will change it.

The problem is that Saturday is a huge game and the momentum is really against us, while Reading will be flying high.

  20. Tony @477 ,Yeah sure feels like it at the moment mate, we need a good signing in to lift everyone . God only knows what’s going through Debuchy’s mind now . 😕

  21. evening folks, this transfer window is getting silly again for us 😯 😯
surely, the targets we “missed out on ” in the summer, and any new targets we let leak to the media, should of signed on jan 1st?? i mean, once carr has done his bit, surely the club should of started transfer talks with the clubs involved straight away, and then , come 1st jan, the player signs, and everyones happy, or is this just too easy to do??

Ibrox soon to become the sports direct arena!! in a £2.5 mil deal,, just glad no-one pulled a cheap stunt like that , at our beloved club!!

my son just informed me – Krul to Milan £8mil / Butland to nufc £6mil / remy having medical at benton tonight- press conference at 11 in the morning.., and Colo having his contract terminated wednesday or thursday!!!!……………………………. interesting indeed 😯 😯 😯 😯

  22. Watching Aubameyang and he looks a real handful. Think we should give St Etienne whatever they want for him (Think £10.5million). Looks a quality player in the making.

  23. NEWCASTLE UNITED are looking to sign Nancy left-back Massadio Haidara.

The Chronicle understands that United have put in a bid for the 20-year-old and have been given permission to speak to the defender.

Personal terms though are yet to be agreed for the youngster although the French Under-21 international is keen on the move.

However, United will be taking nothing for granted in light of the Loic Remy situation in the last 48 hours.

Haidara has made 33 appearances for Nancy’s first team in the last two seasons.

  24. I know a left back isn’t priority but Pardew is obviously not happy with some of the youngsters. This bloke could be a good addition to the squad. I don’t think it necessarily deflects from getting a CB or striker in either. Mick Lowes stated we were after 4 or 5 players this window and I expect there is work going on on others. Whether we get them in is another matter.

I think Pardew recognises that for Santon to realise his potential he needs competition.

      (Quote)

  26. I think that’s right Kid. From what I’ve seen of Ferguson I don’t think his best position is left back. This would also give us cover at right back as Santon can play there if Debuchy is injured or suspended.

      (Quote)

  27. Aubameyang looks classy but very expensive.
He’s only 23 tho which is a bonus.
If ashley likes a gamble, then this lad is worth a punt surely.

      (Quote)

  28. 3HW – There was another LB being looked at, Gaetan Bong, and supposedly we’ve put in a bid for that lad, too. Clearly Santon will leave.

I see that Vainqueur is being linked. Obviously this means that Tiote has had enough.

John Ferreira says that we’re still looking at Aubameyang and Yanga Mbiwa. No doubt he’s on Ashley’s pay roll.

(I’m trying to fit in with this relentless pessimism thing so I can be considered a real fan. One question, though – am I still allowed to hope the players do well, or should I eagerly anticipate relegation? Wouldn’t want to muck up real fandom! 😯 )

      (Quote)

  29. Wellington I don’t think Santon will leave. Pardew has admitted they got it badly wrong in the Summer and that some of the youngsters haven’t taken their chance. I doubt we will sign two left backs it will be one or the other.

      (Quote)

  30. 3HW – ❗ I’m sure that as a real fan, you mean to say that Santon will leave and we’ll only get one of those two in to replace him. Anything else would be treacherously optimistic. 👿

      (Quote)

  31. FJ – not just that, but the signing of a man named de Jong will unsettle HBA, leading to a sulk of such intensity that it actually creates a black hole. Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Cisse and Debuchy will all tumble into the void without so much as a single Euro for the transfer! 😯

THEN WHERE WILL WE BE, ASHLEY?!?!!!

      (Quote)

  32. MDS – I have out-done your fandom with 501. While you might think it too optimistic due to a player coming in, the lack of transfer fees for those players make my scenario worse, and therefore, more realistic. 😯

      (Quote)

  33. Don’t think Remy has signed with anyone yet Kimtoon. He seems to have disappeared into someone’s medical. As far as purples go (I love that term Llambias, it’s brilliant of you to think of it) let’s look at the squad again as it looks now:
Krul – purple but will he stay?
Colo – purple but will he please not go?
Santon – downgrade, not quite purple, maybe mauve, inconsistent defensively
Willo – not purple, not sure what colour he is
Saylor – hasn’t played enough this season, no colour
Debuchy – purple but is he already worried about coming in
Cabaye – purple, please keep Debuchy calm
Ben Arfa – purple but injured a lot, will he stay?
Tiote – no longer purple, terrible passing, terrible fouls
Marveaux – almost purple, keep it up Marv
Anita – getting better, not yet purple
Cisse – not purple, can he find his scoring touch?
    Shola – not purple
    Bigi – not yet purple
Perch – not purple, a stand-in at DCM at best
    Ranger – forget it
Sammy – not purple, needs to buck up
Ferguson – not purple, needs playing time on loan
    Obertan – not purple, inconsistent
Left some injured out. No other purples in squad including backup goalies. Total purples: 5. Is 5 purples enough Derek (and 1 may leave tomorrow).

  34. Geordietwo now now leave the Regime alone after all they have saved our club and will do whats needed to keep us pushing for the top 6 fella

      (Quote)

  35. Oh that’s right Big Dave I forgot we were going for top 6 this season mate. In fact weren’t we pressing on for top 4? It’s amazing how Pardew had that spot on at the beginning of the season. That 8 year contract really gives him a lot of deep insight into the club doesn’t it? Thank God for 8 year contracts that’s all I can say.

      (Quote)

  36. G2 – How can you even suggest that some of these youth players will make it? Don’t you remember that in ONE GAME against Brighton they under-performed? I guess this is what “inconsistency” means in the latest dictionary from Sports Direct! 😯

      (Quote)

  37. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Siem De Jong, I was just poking fun at the fact that a few days before we are linked, he misses a shot so bad that it could ruin his season, lol.

    Just our luck.

      (Quote)

  38. Wellington did the same ones not under perform in the last Europa game or does that not count ❓ , but then don’t let the truth get in the way of you having a good old rant and getting on like the hard done by one 😳

      (Quote)

  39. If the rumours are right and we need another clearout of the younguns in the summer I’m not sure where the club stand in their youth policy Wellington. It seems we have lost (and lost badly) a lot of reserve and junior games this season and even Pardew has said some of our young ones have not progressed. This is a part of the story that makes me very uneasy. A lot of talk about building for the future but will the future ever get here? I think some of the plans are already going out the window. We will not be selling 3 or 4 younguns turned stars in a few years for 10’s of millions of pounds because they simply won’t be there. We may have a couple of promising Prem level players in Bigi and possibly Vuckic if he can ever stay healthy but that’s about it. We can still hope about Good for example as well but we have no more promising young players than many other teams.

      (Quote)

  40. Big Dave – I am shocked. How can you suggest that only one person has been hard done by when the entire footballing universe (and perhaps other footballing universes, but I’m not so sure about parallel dimensions) is being so criminally abused by the regime? 😯

As for under performance in the Europa League game? Why, to call it that you must have purchased the Sports Direct Euphemistic Dictionary as well! So long as we keep buying Jabba’s rubbish, his empire only grows stronger! 😯

      (Quote)

  41. G2 – Good is Australian. Under the current regime, we’ll be lucky if he does as much for us as Viduka. 😯

      (Quote)

  42. At what stage do we look at blame here?

Yes, I feel Graham Carr’s purchases get a rose tinted view. When they start well (Tiote), it is Carr. When they start bad (Perch), it was Hughton. Now Perch is a solid hand and he is a Carr buy again. It’s ****.

We’ve got an overrated scout that everyone knows of so they just follow him, we have players who get over-hyped and thus don’t try as hard and we’ve got coaches who seem to have the coaching ability of a handicapped fish.

It isn’t fair for Pardew and others to just say “you’re ****, go away”.

      (Quote)

  43. Pardew is to fine Remy 2 weeks wages because he failed to turn up for training today.
    😳
was overheard mutterring something like “oh no not another Ranger”
    😛

      (Quote)

  44. BB – it’s funnier if you leave off with “Ranger”. Unless the reply is something like, “Yes! We do not make mistakes! Here is your player!” as Pardew is presented with a cardboard cutout.

Actually, didn’t Pardew say something about wanting to add more starch to the team? This must be it! We’ll see an awkward “new signing” photo of Pards and cardboard-Remy around the end of the month. (You don’t expect the club to get the signing done quickly, do you?) 😯

      (Quote)

  45. Can this window get any worse? St Ettiene have just reached the French cup final so I cannot see Aubameyang leaving in Jan.

    Next…

    What’s Shefki doing?

      (Quote)

  46. Stuart – there’s no way we could pry him away from Hibs. Quality players like that want trophies, and the Cabbage almost lifted the Scottish Cup last term. 😯

      (Quote)

  47. We’re after a keeper? And an U21 Defender? We’ve already got several of both, thanks but no thanks, get some fucking pros in Ashley you **** 😯
