Vote: Is it time for Pardew to go?

Pardew under pressure
Pardew under pressure
The chances are that if you are reading an NUFC Blog then you are acutely aware of how poor our form has been pretty much all season.

Granted it’s a bitter medicine which is made more tolerable when results go your way, but when they don’t and you end up on a run like we are on right now then you have to start wondering what is going on.

Many of you longer-term readers will know that I’m the champion of long-term stability. I’ve got behind Alan Pardew from day one, mainly because he has to do well for us to do well, which worked last season, but now I’m left wondering if now is the time for change as we battle to stay in the Premier League.

I keep reading mixed opinions on it from fans of NUFC. To me the divide seems pretty split on the future of Alan Pardew as manager of Newcastle United. Some blame him for our results, others say that the lack of backing from the board has been a key factor, some will cite injuries as a factor and others will just ask who would be willing to come and work under Hinge and Bracket and the policies they so love to dictate.

So I thought I’d set out a poll and see what the opinion on this site is. Is the mass opinion that he must go or is it a vocal minority who are making themselves heard? I don’t know so please cast your vote now and leave a comment below.

  1. I’ve always been very up front about my nipples Nomster. It’s pepperoni by the way and I’m proud of it. It’s Pardew who has lied again and again about his.

  3. And don’t think I’ve run out of derogatory things to say about Ashley and Llambias either!!!

  4. Lynny – dry your eyes and go back and read some of the comments buddy. I said we shouldn’t sack Pards and that we need investment for 3-4 players this window then further in the summer. I also think someone like Ray Wilkins brought in would help take some of the strain off Pardew.

  5. I cannot accept the level of criticism aimed at Pardew at the minute. We should have beaten Reading out of sight yesterday and we missed chance after chance – he cannot blamed for that. He cannot be blamed for our defending at times, its been due to poor defenders making poor decisions. Arsenal away we played really well but defended like lemons – same against Man Utd. I remember is battering Sunderland until Tiote got sent off and we played well against Stoke but again our poor defenders let us down.

You simply cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear – simple!

If we get Mbiwa and a striker along with having Canaye back and HBA in early Feb and Tiote we will beat the likes of Fulham, Subderland, Southampton, Stoke and Liverpool at home an get points away at West Ham, QPR and Wigan.

I also think we’ll give Arsenal a good game at home. To be honest I think with our best team out we’ll give anyone a game.

  6. Let’s get back to the real pithy bits of this discussion. Whether Pards goes or not we need points. We need players to stand up and fight for the team. We need a full 90 minutes from all 11 on the pitch. Aston Villa away will be difficult. It’s a good thing we have 9 days to get ready. They will have Benteke and Agbonlahor waiting to counter against our slow defence (unless Mbiwa is in there). That could be a killer for us. They have a young defense but they are improving. Lots to worry about there.

  7. please can we focus on the current topic as too many of us are being dragged aside by the the ridiculous comments made my others

  8. People are talking about your others again NCJ? Sorry, couldn’t resist mate. 😎 Nomster is making me silly. The Pardew debate is bound to go on and on because we are struggling so badly. I can’t see a quick end to that. Cisse is a big key in all this. If he can’t get it going we may be in too deep to rescue the season.

  9. GEORDIETWO if he gets the chances he will start knocking them away, but we need to keep feeding him 😉 keep the faith he’ll come good

  10. FSOC@203, I don’t know of Digane, but I’ll keep an eye on him from now on. I know the trainer at Freiburg, Christian Streich, is an absolute heed the ball. You really wouldn’t like to lose a game and have to explain it to him later in the changing rooms. He goes mental on the sidelines 😆 😆 I can see why they have such a good defence 🙂

      (Quote)

  11. I definitely hope so Big Dave. He has been so wild with some of his shots this season. And the offside business is a real worry as well. A strike partner would help him if we get the right one. I like the idea of de Jong.

      (Quote)

  12. Munich – have you seen much of Wolfsburg or Hoffenhiem this season. They seem both be struggling abit as well and have some decent defenders and CFs we could maybe poach.

      (Quote)

  13. Sharpy17, aye I have watched them both this season, and they have been pretty poor. VW sponsor Wolfsburg, and whereas they had loads of money to spend, Felix Magath went through loads of it before they bladdered him. Hoffenheim are similar, owned by the owner of SAP, but have been rubbish this season, and are on there third trainer this year.

Cannot see anyone from either of those clubs who would help us out to be honest.

  15. Munich – you’ll probs know better than me but I was thinking Simon Kjaer, Patrick Helmes and Bas Drost from Wolfsburg or Marvin Compper, Matthais Jaissle, Eren Derdiyok or Joselu.
I haven’t seen much of them this season but what I’ve seen in the past they are decent players I think.

    @DJG

There has to be a cut off point for everyone. Mine is still some distance off.

I still believe we can draw clear of this.

The only reason I would change the manager is in the hope the new manager would get that ‘new manager winning phenomena’.

Even **** managers can get it for about 6-10 games.

As I have maintained, I don’t believe we can attract a decent manager and therefore I believe we have to stick with Pards and support him through this difficult time.

It’s the board that should be taking the flak IMO for the lack of transfer activity AGAIN. 😉

I don’t know if its been mentioned but we are favourites to land Darren Bent from Villa.

  23. hopefully a few new signings and they hit it off early will prevent us going down. It will be hard to bed players in at such a precarious time. Will it be too little too late?

I hope we have release clauses in their contract should we go down.

I don’t believe he’s getting his game at Villa at the mo (tho I’m not sure, summit I read).

No doubt he’ll score a hatrick against us next. 😯

  29. 3HW – they could just have been discussing which players they want in of course.
Trouble with social media is that everyone has breaking news. I’m sure all will be revealed on twitter tomorrow though.

Troy – aye, they’ll play him against us for his hat trick then let him warm the bench for the rest of the season rather than sell to us

  30. To be honest i was optimistic in the first half although i was surprised stroller started Williamson seemed more confident and tried to pass the ball ,I expected an edgy win but in the second half when they came out they looked edgy and nervous so to answer Pardew the negativity transmitted in the second half stared on the pitch and spread to the stands think i would have started with obertan over Jonas it seems all our attacks breakdown when santon passes to him and he stops or falls over .I do think we have to blame lack of investment on the board ,but i do think we are lacking in tactical nounce, Will an extra coach help i dont know, will new signings and returning players help us i dont know.It is fair to blame the fans for being upset no,just think about work if you fail to perform the man who pays your wages tells you in no uncertain terms so the fans who criticised pardew were right ,take it from one of the 49000+ who were totally deflated by the lack of commitment but also who did not boo there are at least 9 players on the pitch who have to look at cabaye and collo and get stuck in. rant over howay the lads lets see if pards can turn it round because who would we get 😕

I’m at loss what people expect from the players at our disposal.
    Jonas for Obertan?
    Sammi for Shola?
    Marveux for Perch?
    Williamson for Taylor?

For me its replacing average for mediocre.

Says medical will take place today… Seems over the line. If so, probably way more important than getting a striker. I just hope it doesn’t mean the end of Colo, he needs to stay at least until the end of the season.

As for Sissoko speaking to QPR first and then us on Wednesday. Can’t see that one going our way. He will be offered at least 20k more at QPR. Despite us being his supposd “first choice”. Will take the exact same lines at the Remy deal did…

  33. I just don’t get how a manager of the year, who had ( I believe) used the most substitutions in the league last year and by and large got them right (even if there weren’t exactly any hugely noticable game changing subs, bar benny every now and then) can **** up so hard now. Did the players really carry it? Were we that lucky?

      (Quote)

  34. Newkie,
I think Pardew is a confidence manager. Which doesn’t bode well for the pressure situation we find ourselves in.

Everytime we take the lead, instead of looking for a second, he immediately gets defensive. His tactic is to “not lose” instead of “winning”.

That is the negativity and lack of faith that spreads. With any sport, trying not to lose puts so much pressure on you that you inevitably lose.

For me, we lost the Reading game on 60 minutes when he took off an attacking influence and replaced him with a defensive destroyer.

Reading had nothing to fear in defence keeping Shola and Jonas at bay and they could push forward with confidence of getting back.

You give the other tea confidence, you play to their strengths instead of your own teams strengths, and you are screwed.

Pardew has done this constantly this season. The more in the **** we get, the more passive and negative he gets. He needs to grow some balls, and attack. We can get defensive in the last 5 minutes if we really need to.

    @JJ

Taylor has had one hell of a long lay off from injury. I agree Taylor is better than Willo when both fit but I still find Taylor suspect with his positioning and erratic tackles.

Jonas & Oba. Well take your pick for me. Jonas is now more defensive but Oba does nowt offensively anyway.

I strongly believe Ba & Cisse and to a lesser degree Barfa and Krul masked a huge crack last season.

We are now without Ba and Cisse is a shadow of last season.

  37. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (7mil), Massadio Haidara (2.5mil), Mousa Sissoko (3mil) and Siem de Jong (9.5mil) in… and Colo staying until the end of the season would definately get my positivity up. Hopefully the players’ too…

With Ba’s departure, that would be a net spend of 20mil.

Simply can’t see us spending that much unless we sell someone big however. It just isn’t Ashley.

      (Quote)

  38. The thing is, Ashley needs to realise, that spending 20million could save him a lot more should we stay up.

And, all of these players are likely to increase in value. You have to spend money to make money.

Would get the fans a bit more on board. And if Pardew did stay on, he would have no excuses about not being backed by the board.

      (Quote)

  39. Also, the wages could be covered by the departures at the end of the season of Coloccini and Tiote, plus around 10million in fees.

    Makes sense to me 😆

      (Quote)

  40. I do believe however, reading between the lines, that Colo will be off on loan until the end of the season. Which means our defence is no better off.

I think there will be a clause in there stating that he must return if one of the current defenders gets injured.

      (Quote)

  41. I see Gouffran is out of contract at the end of the summer. He’d be a cheaper alternative to Siem de Jong.

The positive situation we have got (transfer wise) is that no matter who is brought in, they would be a big improvement on the second choice players we have now.

      (Quote)

  42. Ermm…. I’m still looking for the list of players that we can vote on, regarding whether we want them sack or not.

      (Quote)

  43. Dark days at the Toon at the moment, sacking them all sounds great but not really practical Aussie.Think a few of them should be shipped out though as soon as possible, big egos, big wages and very little effort,or desire very little We need fighters at the moment and im not seeing any of those qualities about at present, they look punch drunk from the first whistle to the last.!!!

According to Newsnow all the targets we are supposedly talking to are also being targeted by sloppy chops at QPR so if we follow our usual plan of attack of haggling over the last penny, they will all sign for them or other clubs and the transfer window will have come and gone and we wont have gotten anyone”over the line”,sounds strangely similar to previous windows in my opinion.I threw my season ticket in the nearest bin when I left on Saturday, was going to give it away but why inflict this ***** on anyone else?
Maybe next season Ill buy another but its unlikely, think ill wait until these two muppets tare gone and we have an owner that actually understands how football works, because these two dicks are clueless!!

      (Quote)

  44. I like the way the question is asked: Is it time for Pardew to go? Yeah it is up to him to go or….not! Because with 8 years left in his contract………..
Me thinks the board have no choice than to buy new players but again I do not see any decent player coming to work under AP (the Remy saga is a recent illustration)

You don’t believe money influenced Remy? 🙄

      (Quote)

  46. should he be sacked now? no
should we be contacting possible replacements? yes

first priority is transfers. Sacking Pardew would likely disrupt that process. We can’t afford to do that. Hopefully we’ll get a few in, then we can re-assess with 10 games to go. If no improvement (and we have a decent managerial alternative), sack him

He’s brought this on himself and he has a responsibility. It’s not the clubs fault. 😯

I hope he does the honourable thing.

    Dave

I’m hoping a lot of this is paper talk as I believe the Captaincy would have been taken off him if he was adamant he was wanting to leave.

However, a strong statement of intent to the press and fans by Colo wouldn’t go a miss.

I have never seen him speak to the press which I believe should be a big part of the job.

The capt needs to be strong and a leader both on and off the pitch. I would like him to step up to the plate soon and get this team by the scruff of the neck. Your capt should be galvanising the team. Bollocking the younguns for **** performances, praising them for effort where necessary.

When we went 2-1 down at reading and they were waiting to kick off again, I saw them standing with arms on their hips. Colo should have been bouncing and banging his fists. Shouting at the players, sprinting for every ball, clapping his hands!

I saw none of it though.

      (Quote)

  51. Troy @297,

    Can’t argue with that.

As much as I think Pardew has been pathetic this season, and I want him out, I think now is not the right time for that exact reason. It puts us in even more turmoil and isn’t going to help us when it comes to transfers which we desperately need.

We should however, actively be looking at possibe alternatives at the end of the season. If someone decent wants the job. I say sack Pardew. He’s made a mother of a **** up this season.
