Vote: Would you be happy if the transfer window ended now?

Signing #1 this January

So we’ve not done so bad in this transfer window so far. Much better than I thought we’d do anyway.

Granted we’ve lost Demba Ba although I don’t think there was much that could have been done about that. Once a club he wanted to go to met his release clause we would have always been on shaky ground.

However in terms of players in we have just under half of a new starting eleven to pick from should we choose to do so. Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Yoan Gouffran and, most recently, Moussa Sissoko have joined the ranks at St James’ Park giving us more options all over the pitch and more strength in depth which is something that has proved costly this season. To top it all off, Fabricio Coloccini stays at Newcastle for the time being at least.

Personally I get the feeling our business is done now though. I don’t know why but it was just the way that Alan Pardew was talking after the Sissoko signing yesterday. It was more of a review of our transfer window the way i read it although I could of course be wrong.

So the next question to ask is would you be happy if the transfer window ended now? Do you think we’ve done enough to strengthen? I know a lot of it should have been done last summer, but have the board finally put things right by back Alan Pardew or are we still desperately short somewhere on the pitch?

Personally I’m happy with what we’ve done in this window and if it was the end of January and we couldn’t bring in any more I wouldn’t be bothered at all. An extra striker would be nice but I honestly can’t see that happening.

However what I want to know is what your opinion is on the matter, so get voting and leave a comment below.

  1. Well I’m late with my vote, but yet again I’m in the minority with a NO vote (voted no for Pards sacking as well). Regarding this vote – don’t get me wrong, I’m chuffed to bits with who we’ve brought in so far and a huge well done to everyone who played a part in the signings. But, I do believe we need another CF before the window closes.
I don’t know why but I don’t see RVW at NUFC, I see him more in a Spurs side. I could see either Bony or PEA in our side and of the 2 I’d prefer Bony if I’m honest. PEA seems to me a player who may sulk if things are going well, Bony to me looks like a grafter and would wrestle and out muscle CBs like Huth.

  2. I’m delighted with the window, but nervous.
Problem with our striker situation is we are looking to sign someone for the bench. Is anyone that could actually help us in the relegation battle going to want to come to not even be playing?
We do need a new striker, but it has to be someone young that is willing to bide their time for a chance to play.

  3. Andy Carroll since Jan 2011 = 7 league goals
Shola Ameobi since Jan 2011 = 6 league goals

    Case closed.

  4. SHARPY sorry to dis-agree with you i dont rate bony that much and hope the reports are wrong,do we want a player thats going to be missing every ANC,the dutch lge is very weak at the mo the lad that was at boro is only one goal behind him and he was *****,i think bony has scored 4 goals for his country in 18/19 games and they were not top countrys they were playing, kna not this one for me mate, the dutch lge is not what it was,i also remember that alves (spelling) scored 39 in 45 games went to boro and couldnt hit a barn door sitting on the hinges 😉

  5. ST – I wouldn’t say Bony or PEA are bench strikers to be honest. If Cisse is still misfiring HE’S on the bench and Bony or PEA starts for me. A striker not scoring ain’t any good for a relegation battle mate.

  6. we havn’t scored bucket loads but our problem has been conceding goals more so, i have missed a lot of games this season so maybe i’m wrong but i think the lack of a strong defence has probably hindered us attacking as we knew we were brittle and tried to adapt accordingly

we’ve scored more than norwich, west ham sunderland, stoke, villa, wigan and 10 more than qpr (and they have about 10 strikers) and same amount of goals as reading

problem is only villa reading and wigan have conceded less (although a few teams are close)

williamson will get a lot of blame but often we have been weak with his partner too, santon is our only player to be an eveready in the prem with 23 appearances, colo has played 15 games, steven taylor 10, williamson 18, perch who is a lot further from being a good centre back than midfield cover has played 14 games, i don’t know how many have been at centreback but i am guessing a lot of them as we don’t have anyone else inthe squad who has been playing there (unless simpson has a couple of times

I make it 25 mate, so at this stage I don’t think there’s any need to leave any player unregistered.

We named these 22 players in the 25 man squad at the start of the season:

Amalfitano, Anita, Shola Ameobi, Demba Ba, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Cisse, Coloccini, Elliot, Gosling, Gutierrez, Harper, Krul, Marveaux, Obertan, Perch, Simpson, S Taylor, R Taylor, Tiote, Williamson, Xisco

and since then we’ve brought in 4 players aged over 21 (Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa, Sissoko and Gouffran) and lost one (Demba Ba) which leaves us with 25.

If you’ve counted 26 I suspect you’ve probably included Davide Santon by mistake – I know he’s just turned 22 this month, but he was still only 20 on 1st Jan last year so, as far as premier league games are concerned, he still qualifies as under 21 for the whole of this season.

  8. Lets not be unrealistic Prem – remember age is a factor. Probably more like 25 Mill.
Sharpy that’s why I don’t think there’s any truth in the rumours, can’t see us buying a striker to play in Cisse’s place.

  9. had tav down as a year older than he is (football manager has him a year older than he should be, 31.10.1990 instead of 91)

  10. Ice – fair dos mate, I think I’m going to loose this article soon coz of the number of posts. But who would your preference be mate?
I think Bony could score goals for us but I understand what your saying coz realistically next season we could loose Cisse and Bony to the CONs and find ourselves in a similar position again. Is PEA a French Int or Gabon Int?.

  11. Bolgna hit the woodwork twice in the closing minutes and Roma had a couple of very good chances. Roma are so much fun to watch–all attack, **** poor defense. 3-3 in the end. So much for low scoring catenaccio.

  12. SHARPY dont really know who i would go for at the moment to be honest, maybe someone from the german lge there one or two canny strikers there but dont know if we are looking there if pushed i would go for the sporting striker. hows the pup going you ran out of paper towels yet 😆

“Also i do hope that new left back isn’t a back up to santon i would rather put santon on right back position now on,and start off that new left back.”

…Are we dropping Debuchy, then? Our most expensive January transfer…?
