Gomis deal agreed. Sort of…

Gomis set to sign?
Gomis set to sign?
Newcastle United and Olympique Lyonnais have come to an agreement over the transfer of Bafetimbi Gomis to St James’ Park, but all is not cut and dried just yet.

A fee of €8 million along with an additional €2 million in the form of an unspecified bonus has been accepted by Lyon owner and chairman Jean-Michel Aulas although he also revealed that there are still problems to be ironed out before a deal can be concluded.

Those problems, according to Aulas, centre around the agent fees involved with the deal with the amount and way the payments are to be made along with the amount of people involved with the deal holding things up. However Aulas did conclude by saying that things would be sorted one way or the other within 24-48 hours so we’ll see how it all pans out.

“We have accepted the proposal of Newcastle, which is eight million euros, plus two million bonus,” said Aulas.

“The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents’ fees. I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions.”

Aulas added: “There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations, but I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.”

Realistically things could still go either way but it does at least look as though the ball is in our court at the moment. That could change rapidly though as it’s well known we don’t bow to the demands of agents if they are far beyond what the club think they are worth.

Gomis would add some much needed presence to our striking options which, beyond Papiss Cisse, look exceedingly thin. I’d still like us to get another striker “over the line” before the window closes but if we get Gomis it is at least a start.

Signing number one might not be too far away after all.

This JFK drunk thing ,I read that too ,it was on one of the journos twitter ,but can’t remember who. He was telling someone off for saying he had said it so not sure if there is owt in it really. It would make sense for Jabba to sack him though ,I mean he’s done his job hasn’t he . ****** off on holiday faffed about got everyone talking about him and his mad rants instead of the real issues of transfers and Pards ineptitude ,job done I’d say .Now all the good players snapped up ,Remy probs off to West Ham and possible plug pulled on Gomis deal if reports are true and Bent to Fulham. That leaves well ,nobody ,so a pretty successful window all round ,players off loaded and no dosh spent ,nice one Ash ,hats off to you for another lesson in hoodwinking the fans.

  7. I know some on here hate The Mag and believe they are anti NUFC. Stardust often expresses this opinion to me in the pub.

I love reading their articles and this one makes me fizz at Pardew!

I believe Pardew is bang in the thick of it with Ashley.

Alan Pardew ‘Bottom Line Is Survival’

3 hours ago by Dean Wilkins
Mike Ashley’s new Sports news website is claiming another exclusive and this time it surrounds Alan Pardew.

I can only assume that the orders have come down the line reminding Alan Pardew exactly who is boss and what he needs to come out with to back up Mike Ashley.

    How High should I Jump?
(To feature like Dean on the website/magazine, send in your letters/articles to [email protected])

    This is what Newcastle United’s manager has said to Ashley’s Sports Direct news service;

“The bottom line for any Premier League club other than the top six is survival.

This club got relegated three years ago and was in a bit of a mess but it was Mike [Ashley]’s bravery that got them back into the top division yet there was a huge financial cost. We can’t afford to do that so the first priority is staying in this league. Make no mistake about it.”

So success now equates to staying up, what a surprise.

It was Ashley’s stupid decision making (Wise, Jiminez, Kinnear, Xisco) that got Newcastle relegated, then Chris Hughton did a brilliant job of making sense out of the disaster, only to then be sacked for the crime of being halfway up the Premier League.

So just like when Ashley calls down that the Europa League is a waste of time and Pardew repeats it, so now when he tells his manager to tell everybody that if Newcastle stay up it represents success, Alan Pardew happily shouts out the same tired line.

Newcastle have the tenth biggest attendances in Europe, are in the top twenty turnovers in the world despite next to no commercial money, yet we should be grateful if we stay in the Premier League?

Somebody is having a laugh and it isn’t very funny.

Apparently Gazza has been telling numpties outside the black garta Gomis wanted 100k per week or summit

Oh dear. 😯 deary me 😯 for the sake of the blog 😯 perleeeeease 😯

It wasn’t. Gazza by the way, it was Bobby Shinton and it was outside the Clock pub. 😛

  10. This so called done deal is as far away from being complete as it was before they approached the agent. How don’t you’s see it? 🙄

      (Quote)

  11. Don’t want Gomis anyway. He’s ***** apparently. And if the link to Tom Ince is true, then he’ll probably get shiter the deeper the deal gets. On the other hand, expect Bent to become the world class player we missed out on because of Kinnear’s drinking problem. Maybe Ashley will hire Wise now to try and oust Kinnear.

And what about Pardew (who is *****) … fancy him being honest. What a loser! No ambition! He should have said we’d be aiming to be champions. That way he’d show himself to be what he really is: out of touch with reality. Unbelievable! What a joke this club is. Not like us in-touch, level-headed supporters who know what’s going on behind closed doors because a bloke at the pub told us. I’ve never known a bloke at the pub be wrong before. The place is a shambles.

Fantasy football code to join head-to-head … Too late, cobbers. All filled (Ed’s blog is good for something).

  12. I’ve pretty much washed my hands of this transfer window.

For what it’s worth I think Gomis, Remy and Ince would be a fantastic window. Can’t see is happening though….Especially not Ince and Remy. Happy to be proves wrong though!

  13. @ChronicleNUFC: Wigan prepared to cut price for Newcastle target James McCarthy http://t.co/uVcvKDJU4E #NUFC

Think he might be off to Everton rather than us because of Martinez though they may not have the money. Would we splash £12 million – only if Cabaye is away.

At this point I’d just love a signing though haha

  16. I think Gomis deal will go tits up due to agent and Jabba losing patience .Remy I just don’t see it happening ,most likely pass us over for WH or Spuds .We won’t get McCarthy or Ince imo and we’ll probably end up with Bent cause that’s Parsnips level of ambition . 🙄

If Spurs are after him and they lose Bale then they would be the obvious choice..

In my opinion, after a terrible few years the bloke should distance himself from the toon and see out his career as a pundit or whatever.
The venom which greeted his appointment at NUFC surely hasn’t gone amiss. He is either extremely thick skinned, or extremely whatever…
One can only assume that his saving grace is that he perhaps spends most of his time away from the north east. That may be a bit tricky to maintain once the new season starts.

  24. Mark@259. Although as you say it pains you, why should Twitter lead the way ?
I’m nowhere near Twitter, because I know already that I hate this method of communication. What on earth is to be gleaned from some unknowns posting rumours, it is all beyond me… an absolute waste of time and energy..

Kim it wouldnt surprise me if we ended up with no new players, and atm I dont see the point of bringing in a DOF that should make getting players easier.
But it is now less than 2 weeks till the start of the Prem and we still havnt strengthened our team but have actually got rid of players making us weaker.

  29. Mark@266, those are scary numbers there mate. The number of players being offloaded by Arsenal is horrendous 🙄 🙄 . Btw I watched this guy Johan Djourou play last season on loan in the Bundesliga at Hannover 96, and he got absolutely battered most games…way too slow…. According to Wikipedia he earned 2,6 mill GBP last season at Arsenal.. 😯

I bet the owners are happy to get all those players off the books, that must represent a humongous saving in salaries. I wonder who recruited all of these “fringe players” and academy failures….. 😉

  30. 3HW/oblong – agree the only way £12m on McCarthy would be Cabs leaving, but I still think we could pick Andros Townsend up for around £4m and he’d be a great acquisition and the likes of Gosling and Amalfitano could then sling their hooks!.

He has the toon ticking along nicely now, spending precious little money, with a bunch of yes-men leading the way and buffering the ever-demanding Geordie goldfish bowl. Easy money coming in now that he has got the finances sorted out…

Canny result yesterday for the mighty Rangers though. 😉 Still a bit of a job to do north of the border before they are competing with Sellic for the Champions League spots. Still, it’s coming, probably take 3 years, so get a few Rangers shares in your retirement portfolio 🙂
