Remy completes Newcastle switch

Remy finally signs on
Remy finally signs on
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Loic Remy from QPR on a season long loan deal.

The French striker arrives at St James’ Park some six months later than originally planned after he opted to join QPR over us in January which is a cause for some concern amongst some of our fans who feel as though we’re second choice.

Personally, if he delivers the goods for us then I don’t really care about what happened in January. The 26-year-old has a lot to prove ahead of the World Cup next summer and plans to break back into the French squad. To do that he must perform for Newcastle first and foremost and if he does than we can sign him up permanently next summer.

Remy scored six goals in 14 appearances for relegated QPR last term which is not too bad considering the situation they were in combined with the fact that the Premier League was new to him. With six months of experience behind him perhaps he could manage an ever better return?

Speaking to the club website Remy admitted that he is delighted to finally be here:

“It will be a huge honour to play for such a big club. I was very flattered by the Club’s interest in me back in January and also very happy that they showed interest in me again this summer,” said Remy.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and that’s where I want to play. I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United.”

He added: “I am focussed on helping the team achieve success this season and scoring as many goals as I can.”

United’s director of football, Joe Kinnear, said: “The need for us to strengthen up front was a priority and I have been working very hard to secure one of our targets in this position.

“I’m delighted to have secured Loic for the season. Now we have him I’m sure he’ll be a huge success for us; I know he’s hungry for goals and is absolutely committed to helping us achieve success this season.”

While Alan Pardew added: “Loic is a great player and I’m delighted that Joe has got him on board for us. He’ll be a great addition to the squad, he gives us strength and pace up front and I’m sure he’ll bring plenty of goals.”

“It’s a big season for Loic, like it is for all our international players ahead of the World Cup, which will only provide extra incentive for him to play at the very top of his game.”

I’ve seen a few people mention that this is “just a loan deal” but to be fair it’s worth pointing out that Hatem Ben Arfa was just a loan signing before he was signed on a permanent basis so it’s not all bad on that front.

Welcome to Newcastle, Loic.

  2. According to physio room we already have 6 injuries in the squad. Colo does have a groin or pelvis injury, Remy has a calf or shin injury, Ameobi (I think they mean Shola) has a hip or thigh injury. Situation normal then. Five new injuries and Raylor from last season. Second biggest number of injured in the Prem and we haven’t played a game. Nice to see ManU above us on this table anyway.

  5. Dave@534 ,Now don’t be getting greedy, you should be grateful for the scraps Jabba has served us.;).

  6. Just bringing myself up to date more than anything. Abeid has a season long loan deal with Panathinaikos. He was the most amazing midfielder ever when he first came to us according to Pardew (exaggerating a bit there) and yet he’s out of the squad now. Gosling’s deal with Crystal Palace fell through as well quite a well ago. There is a suggestion he failed their medical but nobody will confirm it. Nobody wants Obertan either. Where is all the competition for places Pardew has been bragging about? I only see it at a couple of positions: LB between Santon and Haidara, CB between Saylor and Mbiwa, midfield between several lads but realistically we are going to go with Cabaye, Tiote and one other (hopefully not Jonas) central midfielder, along with Sissoko probably still being played out of postion. Is there room for either Marveaux or Anita in the starting lineup?Unless Pardew falls out with Jonas it doesn’t look like it to me.

  7. Kim yeah I know but I guess I was being hopeful more so than greedy 😀

G2 yeah your right there, I still think Jonas will be a nailed on starter

  8. G2 from where I stand we look weaker having offloaded plenty and only loaned one guy. It’s a shocking carry on for a club hoping to stay in the PL.

  9. It’s ridiculous if we want to play a quick brand of passing football Big Dave. Jonas just can’t run anymore and some of his passing was terrible last season. He slows everything down to a crawl in the midfield. Kimtoon, aye it’s ridiculous lass. We’re always two steps behind everyone else in making moves. Far too slow in bringing players in properly. If we get a couple more injuries to important players it could be real trouble at the start of the season. If Ben Arfa is out of shape as has been suggested elsewhere that’s a real shocker as well. He seems less ambitious to me now. Maybe he’s gotten too comfortable not having to play much and who is going to compete with him in our squad when he’s fit?

  10. aye, I reckon one more. a winger and thats us done. Unless we go back for Bafetimbi Gomis. Marseille have signed a forward so things might move a little quicker now

  11. Ben Arfa looks too bulky, as does Shola. too much pumping iron I think, not ideal for footballers..

  16. It’s so nice to get into an Aussie football blog. Entertaining debate flourishes. There are code wars arguments, and should the season be longer, who should the new clubs be, how well the sport is growing, and conversations about whether the game is called football or soccer – there’s real resistance to calling the game football from Aussie Rules people.

All back to basics stuff, but a lot of fun. There’s great excitement about where football is going in Oz.

    Then I come here …

    So I go back there.

  17. Troy… 😆 😆 funnily enough Billy Ray Cyrus does hold some memories of a karaoke bar in Canada one extremely drunken night but that’s a long story. As for the mullet, my “Chrissy Waddle” haircut was forcibly removed my first morning in the army 😆

  18. Eh. chrissy Waddle perms? those were the day. 😆 Geordie jeans with a blue, white or red stripe down the side a Le shark top and a pair of pods 😛 living the dream.. 😆

I hope L’verpool refuse to sell Suarez. & I hope one day (not in Ashleys reign) we could do the same and banish any idea of selling to our rivals because we want to be big again.

We actively attract (blow the doors off) bids 🙄

  19. M…Not really a big stat man but an interesting read nonetheless.

Bris… Some decent articles(haven’t read them all) I think when I get my Al Jaz satellite installed it shows A league so I may watch a match or 2… I think one of the articles comments “take your kids to see the brilliance of Heskey” was taking it a bit far though 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  20. Mark…Aye kids today have never lived 😆 Geordie jeans were the kegs of choice for our school uniform 😛

  21. Richie, there’re some really good games in the A-League, some awful ones as well, like, but that’s football. It’s a very competitive league. Almost impossible to predict a result in any given game. And this season all teams have set themselves up to play a passing game. I’m looking forward to it myself.

Still a long way to season start – another 2 months to go. We have a 6 month off season! Can you imagine that in England?

      (Quote)

  22. @Begas

Nope. No one is interested. 😛

Now if you play some Rolf Harris classics that might be different. 😛

    Just play the start and ask the question;

Do you know what it is yet. ? 😛

      (Quote)

  23. @Begas

I never had you down as an Alice Cooper fan. Maybe Aussie will like the greatest music Oz export that is Rolf Harris. 😛

  24. Still only one signing and a week before the season starts. Atrocious really. 🙄

  25. Bloody hell is Angry Anderson still going…other than as a certain antipodean’s alter ego on here? 😯
