Kinnear caught in truth shocker!

So Kinnear wasn’t telling porkies about Gomis…
It seems as though I may have underestimated our “friend” Joe Kinnear in light of recent events.

Up until now I had thought that he was just an old guy, eccentric, out of touch and with a massive gob on him that he was unable to control.

In truth I still think the same way and I’m unsure if him holding the position of Director of Football will ever work out, but to be fair to him he has actually been speaking a bit of truth regarding this window’s protracted transfer target (we seem to have one every window!) which is of course Bafetimbi Gomis.

The other day Kinnear gave an interview basically saying that the goalposts keep being shifted regarding the deal and things keep changing due to the involvement of other people. Given the way our incoming transfer dealings can be drawn out I (like many perhaps?) took this statement as a signal of us just messing Gomis and Lyon about and trying to look busy rather than actually being busy.

However reports in France, from Lyon in fact, seem to back Joe Kinnear up. Seemingly Marseille have been reported for trying to disrupt the deal between Gomis and Newcastle despite the fact that the Lyon owner wants Gomis to come to Newcastle and has accepted our bid.

So maybe I’ve been too hard on Joe?

Time will tell on that one but time is something that is running out in this window and with no resolution in sight is it not perhaps now time to move down the list of striking options rather than wasting time on a deal that looks to be on the verge of collapse?

Maybe things will get sorted, maybe they won’t. All I care about is seeing the squad strengthened and everything I read or hear about Gomis seems to suggest that we’re some way away from achieving that with this deal.

Time to move on or not?

  2. I would agree with you there ice. A couple of sides were impressive, mainly Brazil of course. They have some fine players. I like Neymar, he’ll do well with Barca I think mate. I was a bit disappointed with Spain but some of their key players are getting long in the tooth now. Still I’m not sure about Ideye. Just an impression really.

  3. No Ice ,I read a while back he fancied a move to us and I think Prem has mentioned him a few times so I thought I would look for any recent gossip on him. Then I saw that and found it funny like. 😉

  4. G2…I think itt just seems like they’re players are getting long in the tooth ‘cos they’ve been around so long, in the confed only 2 outfield players were over 30 and one of those (Villa) I usually a sub or gets subbed…the other Xavi is a key player for them though, when you can actually pass a ball and think quickly the auld legs last a bit longer….that’s why England’s **** 😉

  5. Interesting one regarding Cabaye actually….

It’s World Cup year so Cabaye will be playing his heart out to make the French squad.
The question is, will he do it playing for the toon…?
If Cabaye really does want to leave, then I’m sure Ashley will play hard ball and try to hang onto him, because we may have a disgruntled player on our hands, but he’ll still try hard due to the World Cup.
If a mentally high bid comes in for him, then I’m sure Ashley will sell him. I reckon 20 million quid would seal the move.

  6. Maybe they need a manager change Richie @154? I was just surprised at how they seemed to capitulate at the end. Still a wonderful team to watch but maybe not direct enough for me. Too much tippy tappy or whatever they call it mate. 😀

  7. That sounds about right to me as well Munich mate @158. And Ashley might even be willing to put half of it back into the club! Such a generous lad! I swell with pride whenever I think of him (or is that my rash coming back)?

  11. Ahem, back to football. How is that Swansea can get Bony to come in so quickly if deals are so difficult to make? Why is it always us taking forever to get players across the line? Could it be the people we have doing the negotiating? I mean where would you find two more social, friendly easygoing types than Joe and Derek before him?

  12. G2 ,I will never understand how it takes us so long mate ,we go at a snails pace we really do. 😐

  13. Kim…Aye, Teddy was quality, let his brain and the ball do the work rather than his legs.

G2… They still have the ability I just think that other teams have sussed them out a bit more and counter them better…I know what you mean about the passing though, too much of it is boring as ****, although teams from hotter climates often play that way and let the ball do the work, it’s a bit hard to run around like a daft fecker for 90 minutes in 35c ..I remember when Liverpool were at their best, I found them boring as owt to watch at times with their sideways and backwards passing and slow build up..
It’s funny, most people used to like Spain but once they won everything they became disliked…the fickle world of football 😕

  14. G2 I don’t know about other clubs but as Kim touch’s on it takes us yonks to do a deal for a player but we can sell one almost straight away

  16. Dave… To be honest I just can’t be arsed usually when the transfer windows open, it’s depressing enough without reading all the depressing stuff on here too… nae offence to fellow bloggers, I can **** myself off enough with my own thoughts without any help from others on here 😥 😆

  17. Dave ,Thing that gets me is how quick they got players in back in Jan when we was at risk of relegation. That just proves that for every nasty agent putting a spoke in the works ,there is still an element of heel dragging going on by us , as this and last summer proves.

  24. Dave @ 108

I didn’t mean to say that you in particular were negative (not that I don’t think that, of course, 😉 . What I said was: ‘If you have a negative predisposition to someone you can always twist their words to mean something else.’ Meaning, if taken in context: if one has a negative predisposition to someone, one can always twist their words to mean something else. Sorry for not being grammatically perfect, leyk wot uthers is.

However, your misinterpretation only goes to prove my point. 😆

And, btw, Kinnear didn’t call anyone thick or that they knew nothing about footie. (I know you are a stickler for quoting people correctly so maybe you have another quote somewhere. If so, please show it to me. I’d be interested in seeing it). He said those that question what he can bring to the club are talking ‘out their backsides’. He did claim to be more intelligent than them, but I don’t think there’s any proof of that one way or the other.

Agree that it isn’t a very diplomatic thing to say, though. And let me say yet again lest someone wants to misrepresent me: I dislike Joe Kinnear (for many of the reasons everybody else dislikes him) and would prefer him not to be at the club.

  25. I would like to thank all the Newcastle United fan’s for all the support and faith you given me. I had to many injury’s to key player’s last season and the extra europa league games, which is the reason for finishing 16th. We our busy preparing for next season so a repeat of last season doesn’t happen again. I have Joe to help me bring world class player’s like Remy to the club. I would like us also to thank Mike Ashley for sorting out the clubs debts. He never gets enough credit for all the hard work he has done to save Newcastle United. I will wish you all a good night. 28. Kim @148 – Ideyes agent said that weeks ago Kim, maybe around the time JFK was coming in and nothing else has happened with that one.
When I read those comments I thought he was pretty likely to be on his way in all honesty, but since then we have obviously gone after Bent and Gomis.
Maybe he’s still an option coz I don’t think he’s moved anywhere else yet. I’d defo have him before Bent and probably ahead of Gomis. He’s younger, has an equally decent strike rate, would probably cost slightly less and demand less wages – plus I’d imagine he won’t have 19 agents all wanting paid for his move like Gomis has (a slight extention of the truth).
The only negative is he’s Nigerian so he and Cisse would head off to the ACoN together, leaving us short upfront again – thinking long term as I know it doesn’t happen this season.
