How are you feeling ahead of the new season?

To The Etihad and beyond!
To The Etihad and beyond!
With just five days until our season opener at Manchester City, I thought perhaps now is the time to ask everyone how they are feeling ahead of the new season.

So far another disappointing transfer has seen supporter frustration levels grow – levels which haven’t been helped by bizarre decisions like hiring Joe Kinnear as Director of Football.

However there is at least some welcome distraction upcoming. Not just for fans of United but for fans of every Premier League club. The new season brings new feelings so I’m just asking what everyone thinks about the new season, what their expectations are and so on.

To be fair, if you look at our opening fixture, it doesn’t make for good reading. Manchester City away is one of the toughest games in the league these days which doesn’t bode well when you combine that with our ability to just simply forget to turn up and roll over whenever we face them.

I call it a “gimme game” in the sense that I expect nothing from it so if we sneak a point or three by whatever means I’d be over the moon but the reality is that achieving that is going to be massively against the odds. If the expected happens and we do get best it’s important to remember that City will beat better teams than us this season and not to get too down about it.

In a way our season starts properly with the two games after Manchester City. Two home games against West Ham and Fulham and I’d be expecting us to take the bull by the horn in those games with us being the home team and, with the greatest of respect to them, both sides not being in the same league as a Manchester City.

I think those three games will give us a clearer idea of how things are looking. Football is unpredictable a lot of the time so all of it is an unknown really. I’m just wondering how everyone else is feeling before the big kick-off on Monday evening?

Your thoughts please…

P.S – Don’t forget that we’ll be cranking up the volume here on NUFC Blog the closer we get to the match on Monday so make sure you check back for match previews, stats and facts ahead of the big game.

  1. Well no friday signing today I take it ?

Mark @ 524 I think your spot on about our spending 😉 and I cant believe how much you’ve changed Troy will be proud of you 😀

  2. @Big Dave

  3. i wish to god they would just get 2 more in and kill all the negativity ,getting over here too Holland and sign Finbogasson and Anderwield and we are sorted upfront and in defence for a total cost of maybe 10 million , 5 million each would get them i reckon . Then to balance some of that outlay sell Gosling and Shola 2 wages in and 2 more out .

  4. problem with us, going in for new players now is we sound them out, 3 weeks later we enter initial discussions, leave it a little, then offer 2mil less than they’re worth and start haggling over a fee both clubs will settle for, only to discover hes signed for someone else 😛 or we leave until the next window to save £250k 🙄

    very frustrating..

  5. MARK told you there is no promise where jabba is mate,it could still come off but as i said we could get nowt

  6. gomis just tweeted this

Heart goes out to my friends behind my TV screen … “There is no happiness possible for anyone without the support of Courage”

is like a cryptic message last seen on 3,2,1 with Ted Rodgers.. hmmm

  7. Ice Joe is a proper fuking muppet brought in to take the flak of Jabba, Wonga and Pards, until Jabba decides to get shot of Pards then he will be the new manager that a lot of fans have been calling out for.

Mark you need to decide for once and for all what side of the fence you want to be on 😉

  8. DAVE to be really honest mate my thoughts have always been that jabba brought joe in to get pardew to walk it hasnt worked “yet”some say if that was the case jabba would sack him and pay up thats the easy way and would make him look the bad guy, pardew will go just a matter of time imo 10 games in if results are poor imo

  9. @BD well I learned that Jabba, (contrary to popular belief) doesnt sell our better players every season for huge profits. And Ive also learned he can buy some cracking players every year to add them to the ones he could of sold..

its just the final piece of the jigsaw that frustrates me.. the nearly there syndrome.. thats why I find him hard to judge.

Also having a manager that can piece it all together helps..

Lets see where we are when the window closes..

  11. Hi, my name’s Ed, I can tell you unconditionally that most of what I say is what someone else just said, so bollocks whatever 😎

  12. Here we go again. another season fighting relegation. Hoping Pardew gets the old tin tack before next Saturday

  13. No shame! 🙄 😆 …I’m having to kick them out of the “Predictor league”…a mackem infiltrator 👿

Will you stay up/get up to watch the match on Monday mate?

  14. The dirty *******…. keep an eye on it mate…

I am not sure about Mondays game… I will be in Sydney for work (fly out Monday morning) so I will have to see how it pans out… Out of all the times, the late arvo and night games are the worst.. I love the lunch time games -7-8pm my time.. golden

  15. There’s a smoggie in there as well but I’ve let him stay as every league needs a pet 😈

Aye the late ones must be a ‘mare like…you work?!! 😯 😉

Watched Lyon last night the young midfielder Grenier looks a canny player, seen him 4 or 5 times now, one to watch methinks. They seem to be scoring ok without Gomis too, 7 in 2 games.

  16. define work? 😎 😆

Sometimes with the late ones, 3am my time, I will record them and get up a 6am to watch them.. I am careful to observe a total media ban before I hit the play button for fear of seeing a score line from the game.. 😉
I am not even sure if my hotel room will have foxtel so I can see the game to be honest.. I should have checked that before I booked it 😕

      (Quote)

  17. Gomis not playing surely must suggest that a move is still on the cards.. I reckon we may sign him late in the window..

      (Quote)

  18. AMF@556, apparently he “wants to play in the Bundesliga”…. 🙂

Still 15 days before the end of the transfer window… the cafuffle surrounding Cabaye has earily quietened down…

      (Quote)

  19. Eminem, that is purely a bit of “come and get me Newcastle, before I go play with ze shermans” 😆

      (Quote)

  20. I can’t define work as I don’t know what it is

The Lyon president reckons they want him to sign a new contract but not playing him seems a strange way to go about, deal wi toon is defo still not dead but I think the agent wants an extra £2.56p which may be a bit rich for Mikey boy

      (Quote)

  21. Munchen… To be fair haven’t we had this same kerfuffle every window just about with Cabaye?

      (Quote)

  22. think we all have to except that we are a second rate club when it comes to the transfer market and always will be with this owner, pardew has once again come out with the same **** he says every window this morning ie really we have had a good window because we havent lost any of our top players but would still like another striker in,ime just lost for words with this bloody shower 👿

      (Quote)

  23. there is no decent manager ever going to work with this lot, stuck with doe-heed for a while until joe steps up 😥 😥 😥

      (Quote)

  24. RICHIE its enough to turn a man to drink, but i know you have a strong will and would never turn to the demon drink 😀 😀

      (Quote)

  25. Joe has signed no one just like I said he would. Joe isn’t in touch with transfer’s anymore. Looking foward to winning the fantasy league with T.T.R.

      (Quote)

  26. I probably get more joy over fantasy league than Newcastle. Good side one ruined by Mike Ashley’s bad taste. I will be taking fantasy league for serious than Newcastle, until Pardew and Joe walk.

      (Quote)

  27. Ice…Nae “strong will” but I have some Strongbow 😉

Whey I’m not letting Ashley, JFK or any other fecker stop me looking forward to a new season with my hopes and dreams firmly in place, it’s always been that way for meand with teams a lot worse than what we have now, every player starts with a clean slate no matter how bad they were last season.
    Bring it on, KTF

      (Quote)

  28. Can’t wait for this season. Fuk all the off field *****, fresh start, fecking bring it on..

      (Quote)

  29. AMF @575, couldn’t agree more mate, let’s get the damned season started.
Not expecting too much on Monday night, but the rest are winnable…

By the time we play Villa away on the 14th of September with 2 goals in the plus column the clamour for Pardew’s head will be building up nicely… 😉

      (Quote)

  30. I don’t know where I have been but I see Mathieu Flamini is available on a free. I know we are well stocked in centre mid but surely he would be a good signing for nowt?

      (Quote)

  31. Watching the game as well cuda! You can see why the English game is so popular! Breathless stuff…..

      (Quote)

  32. Aussie… 😆

    “I don’t know where I have been”…drinking maybe if you can’t remember that? 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  33. Liverpool are still suspect defensively… the top teams will bury them with defending like this.. still early days in the season tho..

      (Quote)

  34. Dammit Jon Walters in my Fantasy team. was 2 points for playing whole game, then lost 2 pts for missing penalty.

      (Quote)

  35. Lucky **** Liverpool, would have dropped 2 points there against a decent penalty taker. I can’t believe Walters still takes the penalties, he converts about half of his penalties. He’s gone in the same corner for last 5 or 6. Charlie Adam should have took it. Liverpool are a good side but lucky with it. Stoke are a joke, if it wasn’t for their world class goalkeeper it should have been 3 or 4-0. They will have no chance this season without Begovic.

      (Quote)

  36. Well ,it’s back ,so we best make the most of it ,whether that will be enough for Newcastle , god knows, a signing or two might help. 🙄
