Game On! Manchester City v Newcastle

Game On at The Etihad
Game On at The Etihad
Newcastle United return to Premier League action this evening by visiting the home of Manchester City.

It’s a game of chalk and cheese when it comes to money spent this summer. City have splashed in the region of £90 million on incoming transfers over the summer whilst United’s only outlay thus far is a £2 million loan fee for Loic Remy.

However, trying to be optimistic here, football is simple. It’s a game of eleven men against eleven and it’s not always the overwhelming favourite who comes out on top. Can United bridge the gap in financial muscle for 90 minutes this evening? Or will be a case of what we have become accustomed to whenever we meet up with Man City these days?

For more background regarding the match please feel free to have a look at my match preview which is linked at the bottom of this article. It features news of injuries for both sides, a history of the fixture, some random thoughts and some (not so) fun stats.

Team news is detailed in full below although I do apologise for the delay in getting it to you. My internet has decided to play silly buggers at the wrong time so I’ve had to use my phone as a WiFi network to get internet juice running through my laptop. Between you and me though, my internet stopped working shortly after I started hacking my bedroom carpet up with a stanley knife blade so the two may well be linked…

Enough about me though. A disappointing close season it has been but at last we have regular football to watch again. The big questions is will we be able to sit and watch it for the whole 90 minutes?

Howay the lads!

  1. I hope the news regarding us signing two players are true. I won’t believe a thing tho that comes out of our club until its official.

I wonder if puppet-boy will stay if Cabaye is sold and we sign nobody despite TV revenue and cash off Cabaye. Mike pulls the strings and Pardew will happily smile and make excuses. the whole affair is rather sickening..

  2. Right moving on to next week.

What would you go with team wise if we still haven’t brought anyone in?

    I’d go.

    433:
    —————–Krul——————
    Santon-MBiwa–Colocini-Dummet
    —————–Tiote—————–
    ———-Sissoko—Marveaux——
    —–Ben Arfa–Cisse–Gouffran—-

    Subs:
    Elliott
    Williamson
    Anita
    Sammy Ameobi
    Vučkić
    Shola

I’d drop Debuchy into the reserves and make him work his **** off before he plays again. If Santon isn’t fit I’d even go as far as playing Anita at RB before letting Debuchy start.

  3. G2-Agreed, cabayes attitude is pathetic. Mind I thought there was something wrong with him last year, you could see it in his performances. Plenty excuses made for him but I don’t buy it, so unprofessional. Says something when Rooney shows up a player for class, doesn’t it? 😕

  4. Oblong I was gonna suggest you swap Santon for Anita as I was impressed with his performance at RB the couple of times he filled in .

Worried about Saturday though as I can see Nolan getting one possibly two tbh.

  5. Newkie ,As I understood it I recently read that Spurs were in for him but we blocked the move last minute and that effected him. Originally it was put down to injury and depression but maybe he was just having a good old fashioned sulk 😉

  6. Debuchy – MYM – Coloccini – Santon

    Anita – Tiote – Sissoko

    Ben Arfa

    Gouffran – Cisse

Dominate the middle and control possession with two up front we would have a much greater chance of scoring goals. We are ***** when we play 1 up top.

Its funny how our ***** form coincides with are 4-5-1 formation change

  7. Well if I’m honest I’d even go for Raylor or Tav with their injuries before Debuchy after his performance lastnight. He has been **** since he arrived and needs to be dropped to teach him a lesson.

  8. Ice @446 sorry for the late reply. I just think Cabaye should be a professional and earn his wage. This is just pathetic from him. They keep paying him even while he sulks and waits to be moved on. Is he going to miss the West Ham game as well if he’s still with us by then? Probably if the price goes high enough because then it will be the club who don’t want him injured before a sell. I can see Ashley rubbing his hands together now with a bidding war possibly between Arsenal and PSG. I would think that will be a short war with PSG winning. All the best mate. Same to you Newkie mate. Let’s hope things get better soon lads and lasses. 😥

  9. If he does go and two players come in quickly it will make a mockery of all the so called ‘hard to do deals ‘ we’ve had all summer. As January showed if you need to get a deal done you can . Him out and two quick ones in will just confirm that we do indeed need to sell a purple to buy ,which will explain Pards bigging Cabs up at every given opportunity this window.

  10. Spot on Kimtoon @460. It was bollocks all along. Ashley just didn’t want to spend after the January buys. He thought we would be away to the races, then got another shock when we finished 16th, then sacked Llambias and brought in Kinnear. He’s due for a few more shocks yet I’m afraid.

  11. We can’t play one up front, especially with Cisse. Do you get it yet Pardew? Did you watch the match? I notice you didn’t have your little notebook Alan. That’s right look up and watch the game. It’s obvious we have no attack Alan. Get something done right quick about it or we’ll flounder against West Ham as well. 👿

  12. I notice Gouffran tried to play fairly close to Cisse, especially in the early part of the game. But Cisse cannot control the ball and make forward passes. He is just hopeless at it. I saw it on numberous occasions last season as well. We should have been trying new formations in preseason. Now we look just like last season, lost in attack. That is Pardew’s doing and nobody else should take the blame for that. There is plenty of blame to go to the owner and Kinnear as well of course. They both look completely lost as well. Who are we getting in? It had better be 2 very good players for Kinnear’s sake.

  13. Kim-wouldn’t surprise me like. We don’t have a fucking leader in the squad at all. Bring back Barton…. 😯 😆

      (Quote)

  14. I see with Sissokho coming in Liverpool have managed 5 incoming this summer. They didn’t sit still as we have. Not sure about some of the quality but Sissokho seems a good signing as does Mignolet. Let’s get these 2 signings wrapped up Joe.

  15. G2 Our players looked totally out classed yesterday. Pardew blaming Arsenal for the timing of there bid.
I seriously think West ham will be a difficult game for us.
Pardew has to go. His done the best and it’s not working.
Joe Kinnear probably falls to sleep at his desk all day ?

      (Quote)

  16. I’ll be watching how well Fulham, Everton, Norwich, and Southampton do on Saturday as well as us. They could all start pulling away. I worry we’ll end up with a draw going into the Fulham game with 1 point. If we can get 20M for Cabaye we had best sell him, especially with his attitude now. Then bring in 3 or 4 excellent players not just 2 Joe.

      (Quote)

  17. Yes a lot to worry about STEM mate @466. We will have to act quickly to avoid disaster but I worry about Pardew’s ability to change the attack even with incoming. He doesn’t show much skill at fielding a decent formation. He seems to have been found out with his tactics and doesn’t know how to respond.

      (Quote)

  18. Dear Joe Kinnear,
I think you should have a word with Mike about bringing making more funds available for transfer’s.
I think you should sign Milner and Sinclaire as I think they would do wonders for our club ?
Pardew needs to be replaced with someone with a more experienced manager.

      (Quote)

  19. If 0, 1, or 2 points from the 2 home games it will be very difficult for Pardew to continue. He must find a way to get us winning at home or his tenure will be very short indeed. The challenge is really all on him now. Joe will probably bring someone in but Pardew must get the team going in the next few weeks.

  20. Pardew needs to go. Anybody who persists in playing the like of Cisse obviously has not got a clue.

      (Quote)

  21. Surely Vuckic has to play on Saturday. I really don’t know where Gouffran fits in. Is he a striker or a midfielder. he definitely is not a wide player.Marveux would get a start for me also

  22. I hear kebab’s off the menu this season. 😕

…guess I’ll have to re-order my seasonal meal, to a starter of new winger soup, with a main, of striker wellington with carrots and peas. As I am allergic to Pardew, my dessert will mostly consist of a fresh **** substitute.

      (Quote)

  23. My worries for the club go no further than Fulham. No point in going further than that for now. We have huge problems to deal with on the pitch and the manager looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

M – do Nufc.com get anything right in this regard? Not known them as ITK?

They said Perch was going to Wigan (and I don’t think anyone else was reporting it at the time) and a few days later he was there. 😯

  25. for no other than the gauranteed comedy that would come with it – i’d be very tempted to sack snief cheesing horse & give geronimo joe ago.

i’m starting to think he could probs do a better job anyway.

      (Quote)

  26. but then again

if his dof job is anything to go by – then we best stay with jelly spine for the time being.

      (Quote)

  27. i think we’ll get our first point of the season on saturday with a 0 – 0 against west ham.

that should just about keep jelly in employment until the morcambe debacle hits us.

      (Quote)

  28. Well hopefully nufc.com will be ITK – Gomis is reported to be in Cannes after being given a few days off – guess Pards and co drove the 1/2 hour it takes to get there from Nice to sell the club to him ….
Bizarre Sammi got on ahead of Marveaux
Still think we can beat West Ham on Sat

  29. if it takes pardew/carr/kinnear & charnley (the gang of four) chasing around france for the signature of a second-rater like gomis – then we are in trouble.

  30. i dont say to much on here dont like to argue to be honest if we aint face to face but love reading everything but here it goes

  31. I can’t access this article anymore so don’t know if this is being discussed already – sure it is like
But the reports in the papers today reckon the sale of Cabaye will fund the signings of Gomis, Gourcuff and Ince.
1st – how much are we selling Cabaye for if it means were signing 3 players?! Gomis was around 8m as was Ince so Gourcuff for 4m? I doubt it.
However if correct, does anyone else think that’s bloody good business?.
I’m annoyed that we are having to sell to fund signings but if 3 for 1 would be canny.

  32. Icepup – we feel yer pain.
Right now I’m just wondering where the match report is on here. This was the only forum not populated mainly by utter mongs but it’s updated so rarely it’s getting pointless. Sorry to moan but I miss it!

      (Quote)

  33. Sharpy I agree it could be good business. Cabs had some big issues to deal with last season so moving on may be best for everyone – especially back to France. Can’t see Wenger outbidding PSG anyway.
