Game On! Morecambe v Newcastle

Game On at the Globe Arena
Game On at the Globe Arena
An early season break from the Premier League will see us enter the League Cup one round earlier than last season due to a lack of European football.

The opposition are Morecambe and the ground is sold out giving the League Two side what will be a record attendance at their new ground, the Globe Arena.

As pointed out in my match preview, Newcastle have not lost a second round League Cup in 23 years but there is a sniff of an upset here. You always know there is a chance of an upset when Sky decide to to televise one of these matches and sure enough they will be at Morecambe this evening.

The good news about that is that it gives people who aren’t at the ground a chance to watch the game, and it also means that there should be some streams knocking about. Normal rules apply, those being that if you find a decent stream then please share it with your fellow Newcastle fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I’m unsure what kind of team we’ll be naming if I’m honest. Part of me says that we should name our strongest team which should, in theory, give us the optimum chance of progressing. The other part of me is thinking perhaps some first team players should be protected on the basis that we don’t have adequate backup to take on a Premier League team should those first team players pick up injuries. We’ll know soon though and all the team news will be detailed below.

That’s about it, I don’t really need to waffle on about the game any longer. Will we record our first win of the season or will we be on the end of another early cup exit?

Howay the lads!

Morecambe: Barry Roche; Mark Hughes, Tony Diagne, Andy Parrish, Andrew Wright; Ryan Williams, Stewart Drummond, Andrew Fleming; Kevin Ellison, Jack Sampson, Padraig Amond

  3. Well I watched the game wished i hadn’t;

Elliott – made some good saves and probably motm
Debuchy – good heavens sell him bramble mark 2
Mbwia – bit sleepy but seemed okay overall
Good – I actually thought he did well but needs games
Dummett – really like him but didnt push for first team place tonight
Bigi – steady. Not really premier quality until next year or two
Gosling – poor touch but he’s English but otherwise I actually liked his positivity
Sameobi – played well worked hard and tried. Not the best player but earned another go
Marveaux – **** me his heads gone he’s not interested and clearly not liking pards
Vuckic – slow and average needs games
Gouffran – French league player finding his true league in England

Ameobi – started off horrendous but exactly what we needed. If gomis An upgrade can see why pards wants him exactly what we need

Hba – will be off to Liverpool no doubt after that…

Depressing viewing but had to be done!

    Howay the lada

  4. So honest analysis on our players:

Elliott – pulled off some good saves but should never have been worked that hard against a poor team.

Debuchy – IMO, very poor again. Offered nothing going forward and was less than average defending.

Mapou – pull all over the place. Looked far less composed than I expected.

Good – was very impressed by this lad. Read the game well and stood up to the physical battle.

Dummett – solid game again. He has the most potential to make it from all the young uns. Very good game.

Bigi – very disappointing. Expected alot more from this lad and hope he doesn’t think that just coz he’s at NUFC he’s made it and the graft stops.

Gosling – 2 goal line clearance. Other than that, another game that he had no impact on.

Marv – disappointed me. Don’t think he done enough on or off the ball.

Vukic – biggest let down of the night!. Was his night to shine for me and he done bot all.

Sammy – did some good work and took his goal well but still unsure if he could make an impact in the PL.

Gouffran – worked hard but was left up there alone. I expected Vukic to support more. Needed balls in behind to run on to but were played into him too often.

Shola – typical Shola performance for me. Skyed an early offered but scored another important goal. Not our CF answer but based on tonight would be ahead of Cisse for me.

Benny – 2 assists. Is at his best when he plays with his head up creating chances. Tried to do it all by himself against WH. Also had more freedom to harm tonight.

I short, I thought the young defenders shone tonight but the young midfielders were a let down.

Pardew – was brave to play the team he started. But the fact he had to turn to Shola and Benny to win the game speaks volumes.
Tonight has probably saved his job, but with Shola and Sammy scoring I hope that doesn’t leave us thinking we have enough.

  5. Thought Shola was a beast today. Played well changed the game completely good sub by Pardew. Won free kicks taking pressure off us and breaking opposition momentum scored a goal and linked up decently within the lack of plan Pardew had.

He is not a 20 goal a season striker but you know you will get his all when he puts on that shirt which is more than most give for their clubs.

  6. LST – clearly a faster at typing than I, but views are not far from the mark overall I think. 😉

Axel – Barton would never come back while MA is here anyway mate. But I agree. We needed some steel tonight.

  7. Michael12 – the trouble is we need a 20 goal a season CF.
Shola changed the game tonight, no doubt. But that’s coz he fits the style of football Pardew plays. Should have scored his early chance tonight mate. Did ok against Morecombe but with his experience I’d expect little else.
He doesn’t score against better quality defenders in the PL.

We desperately need more based on tonight’s performance. Both in midfield and attack.

  8. We learned the team is still quite weak. 70 minutes of dross for the most part. It took a class player against a tired league 2 side to get us the win. Pardew should be shaking in his boots. Fulham will be an entirely different proposition. I spent all this time on the wrong post! Have to laugh at myself sometimes. 😆

  9. Your views on the players are very similar to mine Sharpy mate. Vuckic and Marveaux were both very disappointing. Has Vuckic lost everything he once had? Can’t make head nor tail of Marveaux. Really uninspired performance from him. Is it partly our coaching to blame?

  10. G2 – 😆 did you think you were the only ****** watching the match? 😆

I wish we would go out and sign Jake Livermore (or should have as he’s now at Hull). Josh McEachran from Chelsea, and Tom Ince. 3 young English lads who would add real quality to our squad IMO.

  11. G2 – I was gutted coz I’ve championed both of those players up to now but they really were pap tonight like.
Im off to me pit but I hope we there’s a new article up tomorrow to discuss it further though.

  12. OK, we beat Morcambe. Chill babylons, ain’t no Champions League, just yet. 😉

…on a shirt tip though, well waiting for someone to ‘do the beaver’

I.E. new Puma shirt-pull-onto-bottom (just below top lip) teeth beaver effect.

Instant beaver. Nee pissin aboot. 😎

  13. Actually I just didn’t pay enough attention Sharpy mate. 😳 I was busy with my home improvements at the same time. It was very lonely on there though. 😆 I wouldn’t take too much comfort from that game as we were very poor. Our only creative midfield player remaining is Ben Arfa with Cabaye sitting out. We had better use him well or bring someone in because if he gets injured we’re in even deeper trouble. We have some very poor quality in various positions. Debuchy was poor again I’m sorry to say and Marveaux and Vuckic were terrible as well. Gouffran must have been so frustrated with no service. Gosling isn’t good enough in attack. Lots of worries for Pardew there I would think. Leeds will probably be quite a tousle for us.

  15. Morcambe scored tonight and I was worried mate. Champions league is sarcasm but hopefully it’s a lesson to the players but we need Ba back because we are a weak team.

  16. Just one conclusion after this same **** game and pards tactical…if benny play free position and some body secure behind him so he can creating much goals …pass or drive skill alone ❗
This is the right way for wining games…4-3-hba-2..second ghings… if dummet and sammyo- boy-ie…can start every games …too better…. ❗

      (Quote)

  17. Benny top of a diamond 4-4-2 please, where I’ve wanted him for yonks. He can be far more creative than Cabaye and we all know he can beat plenty of men. Cabs wouldn’t skin Willo let alone any other defender. Come on pards man gamble a bit and see what happens.
