Game On! Everton v Newcastle

Game On at Goodison!
Game On at Goodison!
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through every twist and turn of our trip to Everton this evening.

A Monday evening kick-off and a live broadcast on Sky will ensure that watching the match is more accessible to many so putting on a decent showing is a must.

However Everton are not an easy side to beat. They remain the only unbeaten side in the Premier League this term and haven’t lost at Goodison Park in 2013. They’ve not conceded a goal at home since March with West Ham, Fulham, QPR, Manchester City, Stoke City, West Brom and Chelsea all visiting the blue half of Merseyside and failing to find the back of the Everton net. It’s a tough ask for sure.

United will have to be at their best if they are to trouble the home side. A raft of first team players are set to return to the side (team news will be added in below as and when it becomes available!) after beating Leeds, but with the greatest of respect Leeds weren’t exactly a test and were comfortably beaten. The defeat to Hull still sits in the memory and it’s up to the players to banish that.

As mentioned earlier, the match is being shown live here in the UK and, of course, overseas so finding a stream shouldn’t prove to be too much of an issue. If you fancy helping out though then please, by all means, feel free to leave a link to any streams in the ‘comments’ section below.

That’s just about it as there is no need to blather on any longer. Will United hammer the Toffees? Or will we come unstuck at Goodison?

Howay the lads!

  1. Some say our players lack passion and I woild not disagree with them, but have you watched our English manager? He shows as much passion as a tailor’s dummy in Burtons. And will someone please burn his notebook.

  2. Georgio-If i’d been told we’d lose 3-2 at Everton I would have said we’d have done alright, it’s the first half performance and manner of the goals that really annoyed me.

Everton are full of quality though. The fact Piennar can’t even make the bench when he and Baines were often considered the best left wing pairing in the league just goes to show how much quality they have in midfield. Then they go and loan a player like Lukaku who I would say is probably the third or fourth best striker in the league and well…there you have it 😕

Pardew has until the scum I think. He’s already lost the majority of the fans so it’s countdown anyway.

      (Quote)

  3. We’re all just repeating last seasons thoughts – Pardew is effin useless. Apparently its him that does the defensive coaching. He must do it in that bloody notebook he’s so fond of. Get rid quick Mike!

      (Quote)

  4. Newkie last night for 45 minutes it was painful to watch! Colocini was our weakest player I thought defence wise. He looked very slow and two of those goals was his fault.

Joe watching the game with his two fingers stuck up. On a positive note we where lucky the score line was respectable and Pardew didn’t hoof the ball as much.

      (Quote)

  5. Mike wont sack Pardew ( I wish he would) but it will probably put the club in the red. Same old boring excuses from Ashley and co. Hopefully there’s enough easier team’s to beat in the league. Ashley thanks for nothing

      (Quote)

  6. Get joe in asap he will sort these fucking slimy cunts out. Bring mick harford, dave beasant and fash the bash to beast em all the soft frog cunts 🙄

Seriously not happy about last night and it is obvious that we could do better but the alternative to AP is terrifying.

PS hardly surprising that a compatable defensive pair Colo and williamson, One to drop off and one to attack the ball. Gave us a much more solid look in the 2nd half.

      (Quote)

  7. The final conclusion is simple every game against a big club, we first worry about defending, sitting deep, and we change all our players trying to block the strong side of Everton(Ben Arfa on the right), we concede directly, look the games last year and this year. This game was copy paste from Man City game where we didn’t see the ball first half. It’s not about composition, player, or something else, its about mentality. and that’s is all Pardew faults.

After I know that we concede really poor goals, but we could concede from other occasions they have.

Entering in a game with fear, putting no pressure on them, sitiing deep, you will loose always, its a simple as that.
Tell your player go, play, enjoy and try to win tthis fucking game. Our manager has no passion, our team has no passion.

What a stupidity to play Moussa Sissoko as No10, really only pardew can do that. It works one time against Chelsea, first game now he believes the guy can play there. Look to the quality needed for this position and look to the quality of Sissoko, you will very quickly see a missmatch of 95%.

      (Quote)

  8. and for the guys who believe we were solid in second half.

Maybe Everton doesn’t score but they have at least 4 big occasions. We just avoid a little bit stupid mistakes and they stop playing a little bit which is natural when you lead 3-0 at half time.

So don’t believe as Pardew think we were extraordinary second half, because we weren’t. And you will see next game he will start with a team like second half against Everton and he will again make one or 2 changes at half time. Because he will quickly see it doesn’t work. It’s not Cabaye that will change our team from poor to magnificient.

It was just all the team, who thinks ok guys stop sitting deep and try fighting for the ball and second ball to.

      (Quote)

  9. We got beaten by a bloody good team, away, at a ground where no-one scores, by one goal. In the first half they were bloody magnificent. We were weak in the least expected area -central defence. I In the 2nd half the manager made good changes that none of us would have thought of, chins stayed up and we came very close to a brilliant comeback.

Yet all I’m reading above core the past hour is how the players have no spirit and the manager is incompetent.

No wonder we get laughed at.

      (Quote)

  10. Everton played well but Colocini looked **** last night. His not a good captain by any means, what so ever! He should be dropped after a woeful display.

      (Quote)

  11. Kim, not sure there is a fantastic team in there ATM, but there may be in time. I think a few are still a season away from becoming the players we believe they can be, hence the fragility.

Is it Pardews fault that they are still learning the EPL in the full glare of the media. Probably not. Is he getting the best out of them again probably not. Is he the man to build them into a force to be recognised as they settle in. Not convinced, but short of a world class manager he’s probably as good as most of the options.

It’s far too early to sack him this season IMHO. See how we get on in December.

      (Quote)

  12. KIM@390 aye as jabba knows no decent manager would work for him, very nice of joe to put his two fingers up at the fans last night,i think the whole lot of them are doing that to us at the mo imo 👿

      (Quote)

  13. This season I can see us… getting well beaten in most of the ‘top 6’ games, perhaps all but 1 out of 12. I can also see us winning the odd game against bottom 14 sides home or away makes no difference. I think we will get beat in some of the newly promoted games (already have at home) and after a win we will go and get beat in a game we expect to get something and will have to pick ourselves up of the floor. It will be a long hard season because the standard of the league has gone up and we have not really improved much from last season. I’m starting to think bottom half now whereas I was convinced we could get mid-table but we just don’t look consistent enough. I think Mackems could go down, I don’t see those players he brought in being good enough, or know how to fight relegation in the EPL.

      (Quote)

  14. DJG , re the Scum ,Not so sure they are as bad as we think mate . They may of lost to Liverpool but boy they sure had a go like. Saw more fight from them than us v Everton and that’s what worries me.

      (Quote)

  15. Ice ,That’s it in a nut shell mate ,he’s too tight to do the right thing, but he is cutting off his nose to spite his face really . With a top coach we could really do good things I’m convinced of that.

      (Quote)

  16. Whumpie@387-just be glad you weren’t following the match live and reading the comments throughout/just after 😆

I’d like to say Williamson showed he is still a capable backup but I don’t think some fans will rest until he is hounded out of the club as Simmo was before.

      (Quote)

  17. I’m baffled by Colo’s performance and for Yanga to suck on the same day was ***** timing. Thought Willo looked good.

      (Quote)

  18. Whumpie – It appears from your assesment above you’re not in one bit concerned with totally pathetic, shocking and down right outrageous way we have defended in our last two games?

I also don’t subscribe to your view Everton were ‘magnificent’ in the first half. We gifted them all three goals, we had no shape, defenders running away from the ball, the players and full backs who were playing and positioning themselves like wingers.

Sorry but I would have expected a conference team defend better.

It was shocking and just a continuation of last season – which worries me greatly.

      (Quote)

  19. Spot on Sharpy – you have to wonder what Pardew does with them on the training ground. George Graham he isn’t. For me though a big part of all our problems remains the midfield. The amount of square or backward passing in that first half just loaded pressure on the defence. Dreadful. I thought Pardew had cracked it when he dropped Tiote and played Anita and Sissoko. Now he’s brought him back and made Sissoko a fish out of the water back on the right wing. Bloke’s a complete muppet. Can’t stand him.

      (Quote)

  20. I don’t think it’s fair to blame Williamson for last night’s defeat when Colocini was a million times worse. Colocini looked dreadful in defence and I never saw him once communicating with the back four last night.

      (Quote)

  21. oh don’t get me wrong – our defending in the past two games had been embarrassing. and I include the GK in that.
What I’m finding heard to fathom is the reaction to it. The players are suddenly all ***** and the manager has to go. Yeah -cos that’s always worked well for us. 🙄
yes some arses need kicking – but jees; keep it on the planet.

      (Quote)

  22. Whumpie ,all three of them are internationals ,they aren’t **** but for what ever reason what ever Pards is instructing them to do they either don’t understand , or are choosing to ignore . Either option scares the **** out of me frankly.

      (Quote)

  23. @Stem

I don’t think I have seen anyone blame Williamson in fact he has got some of the best praise (maybe the most he has ever got of the fans)

Just looking at the stats for the game are Stats really that deceiving did I just watch Juventus get stuffed.

Possession – New – 50.2% (against the best possession team in the league away)

Shot – New – 15 (against their 18) I cant remember 5 of them never mind 15 when the frig did they happen.

    Pass Completion – New – 437 (to their 431)

Was I so blinded by rage that I missed this well matched game.

Looking at Tiote’s Stats as well tells a different story to what I thought he played like.

      (Quote)

  24. Santi. Reading the BBC review of the game it would appear that had we equalised it would have been the greatest miscarriage of justice ever. The stats however don’t show that do they.

      (Quote)

  25. **** me Stem you are a horrible cretin go and get a life mate. Wishing someone dead over football….

      (Quote)

  26. 2nd half was bloody entertaining. i’ve not seen the stats for each half but even I was surprised the 2nd half ones balanced the 1st.
I’ve got a feeling that the goals against us were so poor that I moaned and grumbled my way through the bits where we weren’t that ****.

    It’s a theory and I’m running with it. 🙂

      (Quote)

  27. Whumpie I am looking at the stats and scratching my head thinking the same thing no way can I remember at any point us being that good. Though I was having rage fits every few moments thinking about how awful we were in the first half 😀

      (Quote)

  28. The beeb and plenty of others seem to think it was in their quality that handed them a 3-0 half time lead when in fact it was our paucity. The chances we created when we actually looked up for it in the 2nd half showed what everton are: A flimsy (slimy mcmanaman condoning ****) martinez side who without the solidity they had under moyes will be found out sooner rather than later.

We will stagger from good performances like villa to dross like last night all season which will land us squarely midtable remaining on the gravy train until ashley waddles off into the sunset…

      (Quote)

  29. I am still failing to see the mid table predictions come true for us now. We sit where we belong, 16th, with a very poor goal difference and what looks to be a very disorganized defense most of the time. How often do we play a good 90 minutes? Almost never. It’s very rare indeed like seeing Ashley spend money. I’m sticking with my prediction of an 11th to 14th place finish for the season but it’s looking a lot more like 14th now. Our games coming up are very tough as well. Where are the points going to come from? Are we actually going to beat Cardiff in Wales? Or Liverpool at home? After the mackems we have Chelsea and Spurs. By then how will our points total and goal difference look? It’s close to last gasp time for Pardew.

      (Quote)

  30. If we give up 3 plus goals and lose to Cardiff I wouldn’t be surprised if Pardew is fired. Lord knows who the replacement would be.

      (Quote)

  31. Actually another horror show like the first half yesterday against Cardiff should seal Pardew’s fate. He looks like he needs to be put out of his misery. The pressure must be enormous. Supporters screaming “we want our money back” yesterday and I don’t blame them at all. Even the Geordie kids were crying. How much longer with this? We’ve got to join the 21st century and get a decent modern manager in. And a good coaching staff. A few who speak French. It’s obvious to everyone that this isn’t working. But is it obvious to Ashley yet?

      (Quote)

  32. Even Ashley must finally realize yes men don’t make good managers. He has done the experiment. It has failed utterly. Pardew has completely lost the players. To start like we did yesterday is completely unacceptable. The players are losing all confidence. Internationals are starting to look like League One players. It’s pure madness to continue like this, especially with the schedule we have coming up.

      (Quote)

  33. cc , I think it was a combination of some class on their part and us really not playing to our potential mate.

      (Quote)

  34. Everton really pinged the ball around in the first half. They have decent wingers and full backs and we had no answer for Lukaku. Power and pace up front. It was clear that Mirallas picked up a knock and that slowed them down in the second half. Mirallas is one of their best. Our shape was horrible and we couldn’t handle their attack at all. We were very flattered by the final score. It easily could have been 5-2.

      (Quote)

  35. If Ashley lets this continue then he deserves whatever he gets. He is a buffoon for a football owner. We are a laughing stock again. The sad thing is he has so much money sunk into us that he will need to suck the blood out of us for several seasons yet. How this can be a rewarding pastime for him is beyond me. He’s made every mistake it’s possible to make with a club and invented a few as well.

      (Quote)

  36. kim

Aye im incredibly bitter towards any team we lose to especially one managed by that odious hypocritical *****. They were decent first half but without the ludicrous defending for particularly the 2nd and 3rd goals it could/would have been a different story.

We certainly have some quality, Remy, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Gouffran, Sissoko etc. If Pards or whoever does end up replacing him gets the back four tightened up we’ll improve…

      (Quote)

  37. Saturday will come very quickly indeed. What frame of mind will the players be in? Will we start 4-5-1 against Cardiff? If they get the first goal will we collapse again? A very difficult position to be in. Then Liverpool at home. Hmmm. I hope Pardew has a better plan than he has shown so far.

      (Quote)

  38. We caught a few lucky breaks and got a wonder goal from Cabaye. We did improve in the second half but how could we not? It was a good idea to bring in Willo to protect Mbiwa more than anything. Colo was just as bad and Krul had a terrible game. Almost gave away another goal with a weak throw out to Tiote. It was a nightmare all around the pitch for us. Santon gets caught out of position too often, Ben Arfa mostly disappeared and the midfield had no chance of finding Remy by himself in the first half. All in all another disaster.

      (Quote)

  39. To those who say Everton weren’t that good I would ask who is the only undefeated team in the Prem? And who will finish higher up the table at the end of the season? We look like a shambles at least half of the time. How many times have people posted that we never play a decent full 90 minutes in the last 2 seasons? A large part of the blame has to go to Pardew in my view.

      (Quote)

  40. We are in 16th and have a poor goal difference. That’s not debatable. Ashley’s had more than 6 years now to get it right. How long is it going to take? Stubborn people can have their noses rubbed in it and his looks a little raw by now.

      (Quote)

  41. Enough criticism from me. Let’s get on with it. Cardiff next. I’m going for a 2-1 loss. My heart hopes for a huge comeback win though with Remy getting a hat trick. Either way I’ll cheer for the team but can’t say the same for the 3 stooges.

      (Quote)

  42. G2 can you not compress your drivel to one long post? You are posting the same **** on two different blogs are you that desperate for attention mate.

      (Quote)

  43. Nope, I just like to post on 2 blogs and read 2 sets of comments Santii “mate”. If it’s drivel there’s plenty more that I don’t write “mate”. I’ve tried to be polite with you and even welcomed you back to the blog but enough is enough “mate”.

      (Quote)

  44. Sorry you’re not from any time or place I recognize Santii. People used to listen with a bit of patience and respect. Try it some time. It might grow on you lad. Or maybe it will take more time than you have left.

      (Quote)

  45. Santi G2 is entitled to post what ever he feels just as you are mate ,if you aren’t happy with it just by pass it . I enjoy conversing with G2 ,why you have to be jumping down other bloggers throats all the time is beyond me , The only ones you don’t do it to are ones who agree with you . You are apt to get a little personal at times too I’ve noticed ,it’s not cool .

      (Quote)

  46. I asked him a simple question Kim calm down not my fault he took a hissy fit (I think it was the attention seeking mate part that got him :D)

I dont know why he has to spread his posts over 6 or 7 tiny posts. is it that hard to put it into one or two long posts? we have enough attention seeking around here with Troy and his miserable baiting techniques 😀

If he takes what i said personal he needs to get of the internet. He wont enjoy it so much.

    😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎

      (Quote)

  47. I still enjoy coming on here and reading all the comments. That won’t change. I realize I’m not everybody’s cup of tea but it’s not worth losing any sleep over. I used to be an angry young man but slowly realized most of it wasn’t worth the bother. Now I’m happier, healthier and will probably live longer. I might even live to see us win something this way. 😆

      (Quote)

  48. Would even Kinnear be as bad as Pardew ? seriously the bloke had 1 good season and then lost the plot ,last season we were lucky their was enough ***** teams for us too finish above .This season i think we are in the mix with about 4 other teams too go down and after the first half yesterday i cant see anyone except scumberland finishing below us . I truly believe the purple players just dont want Pardew any more as manager ,i think its time for Ashley to act now and put us all out of our misery ,lets get real we are shipping goals badly and losing at home too a newly promoted team . We have no real shape and its even looking like no real game plan we are screwed unless drastic action is taking .

AND NO I DONT WANT KINNEAR EITHIER but i bet we would be harder to beat with him instead of pardew .

      (Quote)

  49. I’m hoping Mbiwa is rested, so-too Santon. I’d give Willo the nod and Dummett v Cardiff.

not sure what to do up front apart from start Cabaye

      (Quote)

  50. G2 i agree with a lot of what you usually post m8 but its a bit optimist thinking any of us will live long enough too see the team win something 😉

      (Quote)

  51. @GEORDIETWO

take no notice dude. if nobody likes your posts they can skip them. you do as you please, its a free blog & you’ve never been malicious to anyone so its all good..

      (Quote)

  52. I’m not a big fan of Pards but the only thing I could blame him for last night is some of the hoofballs to our forwards. V distain and Jagielka we are never gonna win many balls played in the air.

I would of started with Willo but apart from that the players let us down last night.

      (Quote)

  53. We need a big tough CB who is good in the air but who doesn’t? Colo is terrible in the air but often sublime on the ground. But he needs someone to handle high balls consistently well. If Saylor wasn’t such a clown I would say it was meant to be him but he has no discipline. For me Willo is a stand in at best. We’re just not getting anywhere. Having Joe with us is a disaster. Nothing done except Remy which was already underway. That’s why we continue to struggle each new season now.

      (Quote)

  54. Sissoko has to stay in that deep midfield role he is ***** when he is more advanced.

Anita or Tiote beside him really they are both to similar to play in the same 3 man midfield and we really need a back up for Cabaye as we dont have another Attacking Midfielder to replace him with if he get injured or suspended. Maybe Marv though i think Pardew see’s him as a wide player. Vuckic is the only straight swap but i don’t think he will make the grade.

Ben Arfa is the biggest problem in the team is he to good to be dropped? He is a liability when it comes to defending how many times has he left a player wide open which lead to a goal this year and then Debuchy takes the blame for it…… The problem is when he wants to play he will win us the game easy.

      (Quote)

  55. I think the same about the high balls to the forwards Mark @438. And we let Lukaku run lose for an entire half with Mirallas to feed him the ball. No tight marking or tough tackling to slow him down. That really cost us.

      (Quote)

  56. thats the problem. we have some great midfielders but most of them are good in the middle.
Cabaye, Anita, Sissoko, Tiote all want to be in the middle which is impossible then we have hit and miss wingers. Jonas, Fergy, Obertan, Sammy, Barfa, Marv.. all a bit suspect.

why can’t we have just two good wingers instead of 6 ok ones, waste of wages really buying mediocre coz theyre cheap.

pay the price, you dont buy twice… 😀

      (Quote)

  57. A good full 90 minute performance against Cardiff would be a breath of fresh air even if we only manage a draw. Then we get the international break with the players feeling more confident.

      (Quote)

  58. I dont like Ashley very much but I shouldn’t wish death on him that’s a bit extreme, im sorry if I offended anyone. I know some of you think his doing a good job here.

      (Quote)

  59. Kim your spot on about Santi he likes to get on as if he is always right and if people dont agree he tends to try to belittle some. But its easy to get on like that on the internet behind your monitor .
G2 you just wack away mate I agree with a lot of what you say mate so dont be letting any keyboard warriors get to you 😉 if they dont like what you have to say then they dont have to read it simple

      (Quote)

  60. Santi , I think maybe Benny should be behind the front two rather than out wide for a change . At least we don’t have to worry about the wing then
