Game On! Cardiff v Newcastle

Game On at Cardiff
Game On at Cardiff
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which today will take us through every twist and turn of our trip to Cardiff City.

This has been branded a “must win” game by players like Vurnon Anita who stresses how important it is for the “real” United to turn up this afternoon.

However Cardiff will make it hard for us. We always seem to struggle against newly promoted teams and the Welsh side are determined to stay in the league which of course means that they must rack up points, especially at home in front of their own fans. Only Tottenham have won there this season, and they just managed it, so that will give you an idea how tough Cardiff can make it for us.

The match preview was posted online yesterday and can be viewed by clicking the link at the bottom of this article. It’s full of stats, facts, injury news and a brief history of the fixture so is worth a read if you haven’t already had a peek at it.

Team news will be added in fully below as and when it becomes available so keep your eyes peeled for that, but also I’d like you to keep your eyes peeled for a stream of the game. It’s a 3pm kick-off which means that live TV broadcast here in the UK is out of the question here in blighty, but it is being shown overseas so picking up a stream should be fine. As I’ve said though, if you do find one then post the link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I think I’ve just about covered everything so now it’s up to the players to do the rest. Hopefully they can play for a whole 90 minutes, not just 45, and that’s if they show up at all. With games coming up against Sunderland, Tottenham, Liverpool and Chelsea thought, the need for points today is great indeed!

Howay the lads!

  1. lol im not being a neg, just telling how i saw it, in HD 😛 like i said i like Cisse but i wouldnt say he was owt special 2day

  2. Fair enough JJ @449. We’ll have to see what happens mate. This has been a very good discussion. I suspect by the end of the season Cisse might have 7 or 8 league goals while Remy will be around 20 unless he’s injured. Still we do need secondary scoring. 😆

  3. It was not intentionally set up, but it was a set up none the less. I’m not going to argue over the trivial things.
If you deny that Cisse’s shot played a big part in Remy’s goal then you are clearly an idiot. 😛 So I’ll forgive you.

  4. Geordie,
If he plays I’d put Cisse on around 12-15 goals by the end of the season.

Remy on around the same amount perhaps one of two more.

    Only time will tell.

  5. Ooooooh look at me I watched it in HD 😆 …so did I as it happens 😉

JJ didn’t compare Cisse to Shearer he just used him as an example of how even world class strikers like big Al can go through goaless streaks…it’s other people who seem to be making the comparison 😉

  6. 12-15m goals JJ mate??? He has 0 in 7 so far. Let’s factor that now. Hmmmm. 0 times 38 divided by 7. Hmmm That’s 0!! That’s a bit harsh. I’ll stick with 7 or 8 mate. 😀

At last, something we can all agree on 😉 😆

  8. Richie and JJ you’re both having us on aren’t you? Admit it! 12-15 goals ha! Remy will outscore Cisse by at least 10 if they both stay fit and are both selected.

  9. actually my sream was pretty ****. 😆 I too will have to watch this super-performance by cyborg Cisse. although he didnt set up ne goals, that bit i did see 😉

  10. Mark?

Happily married? That’s a bit of an oxymoron isn’t it?

I’m only asking because if anyone knows a lot about morons apparently its you 😛 😉 😉

  11. Geordie,

Cisse’s had one and a half seasons here. Both seasons he’s got 13.

So why is it so unlikely he’ll repeat that this season. We are only 7 games in.

      (Quote)

  12. G2…Having you on? I didn’t say owt about how many he’d score, just that JJ didn’t compare him to Shearer 😉

      (Quote)

  13. JJ – if you really think Cisse will score 12 -15 goals this season, then I declare sir , that it is in fact YOU who is an idiot. 😛 😆
    wow some prediction that one.
    Time will tell 😉

  14. Ha Richie and JJ! Ha I say! We’ll see at the end of the season! Mark us old radgies have to stick together mate. These young’uns clearly aren’t up to snuff yet mate. 😆

      (Quote)

  15. G2
Richie doesn’t state anything he might have to back up at the end of the season…
And he calls Mark a “fence sitter”. 😆

      (Quote)

  16. JJ…I state here and now that I won’t win the predictor league or the fantasy league…howzat? 😉

      (Quote)

  17. @G2 these young uns were obviously plucking the brows instead of watching the footy.

theyre fighting each other nu 🙄

wouldnt want them in the trenches..

  18. I couldn’t believe Cisse’s first few games with us. Wonder goals from every possible angle. Now he couldn’t find the net with a telescope.

      (Quote)

  19. Cisse has 21 Premier League goals in 57 games. (That’s over 2 seasons).

At the rate he’ll end up with 12 Premier League goals. Which apart from Shearer. Is about as much as any striker has got for us in the past 10 years.

So ye. I’d say 12 a very realistic.

      (Quote)

  20. Cisse seemed to regain his touch against Everton, so maybe the bench and the relieving of pressure did help him? Or was it just the goal vs leeds? Annoying that there’s another break coming up but hopefully he can keep his play up and start scoring. I guess the break could be a godsend if Remy has a slight knock.

      (Quote)

  21. G2…Mark and JJ are both younger than me, tho I suspect only Ice is older than you as you seem a bit confused 😉 😆

      (Quote)

  22. i would of loved Man u to get beaten there like. never mind happy with the scum losing again.. it was going so well for them too 😆

  23. Mark

Fortunately wars aren’t fought in trenches anymore.

Judging by your age and football brain, you might still be down one. But you can come out now 😉

  24. gan easy auld man, im only 40, 😉 ice can remember the merger between the east end and the west end of Newcatle 😆

      (Quote)

  25. I’m more than a bit confused Richie mate but not about me footie lad. I still have a sharp eye there. I see JJ is trying to quietly downgrade is goal estimate for Cisse now @483. Very dodgy that JJ mate! Mark and I have our eyes on you now. 😆

      (Quote)

  26. @Mark

Technically he did set it up and it will go down as an assist on most stat sites. Though i wouldn’t give him to much credit for the assist 😀

Though i agree with JJ that Cisse was much better today and certainly gave a much better contribution to the team today. He didn’t stop running all game but he did miss a few chances. (Guess you could put that down to confidence)

We created much more chances today without Ben Arfa. Is that down to the fact we work better as a team unit without him or the fact we were against a poor Cardiff. I would say a bit of both Ben Arfa is to selfish at times.

  27. What do you idiots think of our chances of keeping Remy? 😉

Surely a big club is going to make a move? What kind of deal are we supposed to have in place?

  28. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew:

“I think it was an important win. On Monday night [against Everton] we let ourselves down as a group and we wanted to put it right.

“The first half was as good as I have seen us play, even going back to the year we finished fifth. We locked them in and we had a more offensive look to us.

“We did not play as well in the second half but we at least showed resilience that when the home team put pressure on us we can cope with it.

“I am pleased with how the whole group conducted themselves and how the players who were left out conducted themselves. It’s been a good day for us.”

  29. Newcastle’s last 12 Premier League goals have all been scored by Frenchman. This is a joint record for most consecutive goals by one foreign nationality, level with Arsenal (also French players) in 2004.

  30. You’re no son of mine, I disown you.
Anyhoo off for a few beers, later lads, play nicely!

      (Quote)

  31. i think Remy will sign for someone with ambition.. unless we show some in Jan. I reckon by then, he’ll love playing here..

      (Quote)

  32. JJ @ 495
I have little faith the regime have Remy tied down at the end of the season
I’m guessing he will go back to QPR if they get promotion.

      (Quote)

  33. JJ…If we’re to have a chance we need to get it done in January, if possible get everything in place and agreed beforehand and get the fecker pushed through the minute the window opens….reet offski.

      (Quote)

  34. Surely we have to keep Remy, even for up to 15M pounds? I would pay up to that much if he continues to play like this. But his wage will be something Ashley watches as well. Can’t see us competing with one of the top 4 for him sadly JJ. As for Cisse I would love to see him regain scoring form because it would make us a much more threatening side.

      (Quote)

  35. Mark,
    Well let’s hope so.

For me Colo, Cabaye and Remy are our only class players. The rest can be very good on their day. But those three just show that consistency and simplicity in making difficult things look simple on the pitch.

They’d make a brilliant spine to build the team around. Unfortunately Remy isn’t ours.
Why the hell didn’t we pay the 8 million for him. He must be worth at least double that.

  36. Where is icedog by the way. Big Dave do you know if he’s on his hols or something? I haven’t seen him on here in ages.

  37. Set-up definition..

    10. Sports: To make a pass to (a teammate), creating a scoring opportunity.

was it a pass or a shot.. hmmmm 😛

      (Quote)

  38. aye Mark the sword of Damocles is still hanging by a thread above pardohs head.
He definitely twitched with that question.

      (Quote)

  39. Our attacking set up relies totally on Remy being there. His not signing last January fugged us up for the season as it was all designed around him and him not being there meant there was a huge hole. Now we have him, we look a much better attacking threat. This means we need to sign him permanently.

Cisse is making assists, whether he means them or not and if he keeps that up, he may well end up providing a purpose to the team.

We need to fix the defense. Willo is showing most fans are disrespectful and dismiss him because he came from lower leagues but we’re too hit and miss defensively. If we sort out our defence, we could chase top 10.

    The end.

      (Quote)

  40. @JJ

I think we need to be very careful because it was Cardiff against us, and they have the chance to equalize in the second half.
And don’t think Cababye is a genius, last year he was really poor, and this year he has played the second half and today at a good level. Wait a little bit our next games. For me he is really very far from a very good central midfielder.

But as we see today, we must able a little bit to hold the pressure, when a team put a little bit pressure against us, we just seem lost.

See how our team will play against bigger teams, i m affraid we will go back to our usual **** and be afraid to play.

Sissoko and CIsse were under other players performance for me today.
Sissoko lost, anyone knows really which position he plays, and during maybe 30 minutes in the game, he disappears.
Cisse because he has 3 big chances to score and doesn’t score.

Remy and Cabaye brings almost all our dangerous actions.

Keep continue with a winning mentality and good things will come.

      (Quote)

  41. and if you count as an assist for the cisse the goal of benny against aston villa, i m happy for him. But that was far from an assist really.

      (Quote)

  42. Are these the desperate levels people are descending?

Cisse for the assists! Oh dear. I suppose in spirit he did set Remy up and scored a few too.

Cisse was once again **** poor. We all saw it he was weak snapping at shots desperate to score.

What’s scary is he is trying and worse not succeeding!
