Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

St James' Park.

St James' Park.
Game On at St James’ Park
It’s an early start today as Liverpool visit St James’ Park in this Saturday lunchtime encounter.

United will be keen to banish the memories of last season and the 6-0 defeat inflicted upon us by Liverpool but to do so they will need to be at their very best.

Liverpool have started the season well and occupy second spot prior to kick-off, but a point will take them top ahead of Arsenal albeit that may only be the case on a temporary basis depending on their result against Norwich at the Emirates. Anyway, it’s far too early in the season to be worrying about league position… Isn’t it?

News of injuries for both sides, some stats and facts and a history of the fixture are available to view in the match preview which was posted yesterday and can be viewed via the links at the bottom of the article. Team news, as ever, will be posted in below as and when it becomes available.

We are being shown here in the UK on the new BT Sport channel which is a first for us I believe. Overseas we’re being broadcast on a load of channels throughout the world so picking up a stream will, hopefully, be simple enough. If you do find a good one then please don’t be shy with and leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

That’s just about it really. No need to babble on any further so I’ll leave you all to “go with the flow” as it were. I just hope that we aren’t left talking about another horror show come full-time.

Howay the lads!

  1. Chuffed to bits especially after going down to 10, Pard’s got it spot on again 😯 great battling performance. Will be good to go out for a few sherberts the neet in a good mood 😀

  2. He was excellent up until then FSOTC lost the head a bit and it was just a silly pull really. I am surprised at Mike Williamson i thought he would get turned inside out but he did OK overall.

Tiote was excellent but then a few silly mistakes marred his performance.

    Debuchy motm for me.

  3. Has anyone seen Craig?

Had a lot to say at the start of the game but went missing – nevermind.

He’s the pundits saying Liverpool played poorly!.
Did we not have players traveling the globe on international games like?!.

  4. Excuses being made for Liverpool not winning, tiredness, lethergy bla bla bla ,why not acknowledge that we were the better side for 40 odd mins only hampered by the sending off. 👿

  5. Hard to pick a man of the match they all impressed but i think i will give it too Dummet his goal was what we have all been waiting for , well worked from a set piece and that from a CD and a Geordie

  6. AXEL hard to argue with you but Cabs for me. That goal gave us the belief that we need. Worked his socks off too.

  7. Well there are 3 or 4 of them I could give it to but for saving the point right at the death I give it to Timmy 😆

  8. Wow, I’m not sure i’ve seen such a consensus on here 😀

We were good today and should have beaten the dirty feckers if we didn’t have that defensive brain fart. Tiote should have got up earlier and it might have helped the situation, but still wtf was mbiwa doing? Tiote did well in the captaincy role IMO. Sissoko showing he’s rarely missed when he’s off. Again we looked good without Cisse. Food for thought.

  9. Aussie – dead right. Tiote was outstanding for me today, brilliant.

Watching BT Sport though and so far I’ve seen Gerrard interviewed and Rodger – nee Pardew or toon players. I fucking hate this bias for the ‘bigger’ clubs!!.

We were magnificent today, but the pundits have chalked it off as an off day for Liverpool – bastards!!!

      (Quote)

  10. Hope we put in a similar performance next week against the Scum, minus the defensive brain fart like.

  11. Willo was solid for me today as was Dummett when he came – really mature performance for a 22yr old with so little experience.
Santon and Debuchy also played very well today and Gouffran really put some graft in today.

6th game in a row where we have scored 2 goals. Keep that defence tight and we will be more than ok this season.

  12. I haven’t seen anything about the march yet, though i just came on 2 minutes before the game started.

How many showed up? It got zero mention throughout the whole game. I wonder if Ashley even noticed it 😛

  13. Mbiwa MoM for me, had he not been sent off Pard’s wouldn’t have been forced into changes and we would have been on the wrong end of a “thrashing” The point was purely down to the players…Pard’s oot! 😉 😆

  14. Stats for the game from ESPN app:

    Goals – toon 2 – Lpool 2
    Offside – toon 0 – Lpool 2
    Possession – toon 38% – Lool 68%
    Yellow card – toon 2 – Lpool 3
    Red Cards – toon – 1 Lpool 0
    Saves – toon – 5 – Lpool 2
    Shot on – toon 4 – Lpool 7

Yeah Lpool had more possession, but you’d expect that playing more that half the game with an extra man. Other than that, fairly even I think.

Prem – here’s hoping we protest or march every home game from now on! 😛

  15. I have to hand it to Pardew. He has improved. That was probably the best performance I have witnessed under Pardew.

Also it was a well set out team. Cisse has I think lost his place now. We would not have been as good with him in the team. We were mobile held the ball far better up front not losing it so easily.

  16. I think Pard’s has got it pretty much spot on the last 2.5 games and also v Villa let’s hope he gets it right against the web fingered inbreds from down the road next.

      (Quote)

  17. Michael – I agree we looked better but for me there wasn’t enough up top today. I know Benny was played out of position a bit, but there wasn’t enough threat in the box today. I’m not just blaming Benny (before Chebz starts), but if that’s the front 3 he wants to play they will have to be more of a threat in the box for like.

      (Quote)

  18. I think Bafe Gomis would fit into this team very well. I hope we get him in January instead of waiting until he is out of contract.

Gouffran is fast becoming the new Jonas (work horse) but he offers more attacking threat.

      (Quote)

  19. Pards has to go now for me.

There can be no excuse for hauling one of your centre halfs off after 40 minutes and not sending anyone on to replace him.

Almost as clueless as them mongs marching before the game.

      (Quote)

  20. Great point given we played most of game with 10 men – Tiote seemed back to his old self, Debuchy probably had his best game in a black and white shirt
Think Pards did well with selection and tactics although Benny was pretty anonymous and didn’t really warrant a place up front
    Gouffrans work rate is immense

      (Quote)

  21. They will be looking to bounce back next week no doubt, especially after the new manager ask the owner who left the poo in the dressing room. 😆

      (Quote)

  22. Kim…It’s the **** in the SoL stands he wants to worry about…has Poyet got a No2? 😯 😆

      (Quote)

  23. well done the lads 2day. went for it even with 10men. Great goal for Dummet.

    well chuffed with the result.

    Pardew out! 😆

  24. I think we should really be looking to improve our GD next week.
    LALAS
Nee excuses after a fine performance from all today.

  25. I think it only fair that I give great credit to Pardump for todays result.
Particularly the first half up to the sending off.
We showed we weren’t afraid of them and had a go.
    Great goal from Cabs.
MYM got raped off the eager beaver, just like Colo did. Cant argue, it was a penalty all day from where I sat. Dozy ******* never learn.
2nd half was tough, but cesspool were nothing special.
Best decision from pardew was to drop Cisse imo. Hopefully he will come back the better for it.
Remy worked his socks off, as did Tiote. But still too careless at times.
Worst player for NUFC was imo HBA. Another poor game.
    HTL

  26. Boots – totally agree. Would love to see the stats for work rate coz Benny’s would be nowhere near Remy of Goof today.
After today’s game I would say that a CF has to be our priority in Jan IMO

      (Quote)

  27. Well I’m eating my words and happy to do so after that performance. No sign of heads dropping and a very good second half with 10 men. No sign that Pardew has lost the dressing room either. A shame we couldn’t hold onto either lead but a point is more than I thought we’d get. Tiote played like he used to and Gouffy worked his socks off. Brilliant goal by Cabaye and Dummett looked very comfortable when he came on. I think we looked better up front without Cisse.

      (Quote)

  28. Ben Arfa had little or no impact again. That surprised me. Their top players looked a little leggy, especially Gerard although he got it going in the second half. Sturridge was poor for most of the game despite the goal which surprised me as well. His touch was off on several good chances. Not sure what’s happened with Benny.

  29. Now we need the 3 points against the mackems to make me completely happy and keep them on 1 point. 😆

      (Quote)

  30. It seems that sad lot down the road may be going for the record for fewest points in a season. Good luck with that!! 😆

      (Quote)

  31. The inconsistency is a real puzzle. I thought a lot of it was down to Pardew’s tactics but it seems more complicated than that now. Possibly leaving Cisse out will help a fair bit because we tended to play long balls to him which he couldn’t control and that led to lost possession. Sad to say after his first few games with us but we don’t miss him at all.

      (Quote)

  32. Another thing that really surprised me was how well Willo played. I thought Suarez and Sturridge would be much more effective against him Credit to him for 2 good games now.

      (Quote)

  33. Canny performance today. Showed guys and determination which was good to see. I think we’d have won with 11.

Thought Tiote looked back to his best, Cabaye linked everything and Drummet looks a good player – even out of position!

    Roll on next Sunday then!

      (Quote)

  34. G2 – I think we have looked so much better since Pards has switched things to 4-3-3.
He’s still bedding the Jan players in I think and we are still 1 or 2 short. The defence was great today and Tiote was solid in front of them. If we can keep playing like that then we will find that consistency IMO.
Benny and Sissoko were the only disappointments for me today, but 8 out of 11 players playing well got us a good point today.

I’m pleased to see people acknowledge Pardew for today’s win as well like. He said on Goals on Sunday that he intended to play exciting teams and he was good to his word today.

      (Quote)

  35. Yes I have to say I was very impressed Sharpy mate with our overall play. If we can be consistent for a stretch of games it will do wonders for the club and the supporters. Benny remains a mystery mate. He can be very good or just look disinterested. Not the way back into the French national side I wouldn’t think. Sissoko had one very decent shot and moved the ball around on occasion. Gouffy worked both ends of the pitch so well. I rate him more and more. Krul made some excellent stops as well.

      (Quote)

  36. Never got to see the game today, but what a real great result from the lads. Well done to everyone. Not just a great point, but a team display of guts and solid play throughout the team. It only goes to show what this team can achieve if played correctly..!

      (Quote)

  37. If anyone wants a good laugh, go and read the Sunderland blogs. It’s hilarious stuff. Some are calling for Poyet to be sacked already! 😆 That would be a record too wouldn’t it?

      (Quote)

  38. “We are utter *****. Get used to it”
The above was one of the more mellow comments on the Black Cats blog. There’s nothing like a day of pelting the mackems with abuse. 😆

      (Quote)

  39. It seems they use a lot of profanity on the SMB message board. Can’t understand it really. 😆

      (Quote)

  40. Have to agree with what Stuart said during the match about Mbiwa. Why do defenders do it? Let him shoot and if he scores at least we still have a full team.

Only change I would make is to put Benny on tge wing and Remy central. With Benny where he was today there was no threat from the middle. Swapping Benny and Remy would solve that

      (Quote)

  41. Stu – Dummett was out of position today but I tell you what mate, if you didn’t know it you’d never have guessed it!. He was so composed considering, and in all honestly, if I were Pardew I’d be looking to convert him.
