Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane

Game On at the Lane
Good morning all! It’s an early trip down the lane this morning as United visit Tottenham Hotspur for this televised encounter.

A high-noon kick-off is probably not what Tottenham would want after participating in the Europa league on Thursday evening, but to be fair they have depth within the squad so should be able to cope better than we managed to last term.

In fact a quick look at the Premier League table will show that indeed they are coping better with the rigours of a Europa League campaign. A win will take them into third place in the Premier League table which is no mean feat, yet for whatever reason the natives at White Hart Lane aren’t overly happy and have been critical of their own team at times this season. Would they like to swap places?

Whilst Newcastle can’t quite hit the heady heights of third place with a win, there is indeed progression to be made. A victory for Alan Pardew’s men will propel us to ninth in the table and a win combined with a shift in goal difference depending on our result and that of Manchester United against Arsenal could see us end the afternoon ahead of the Red Devils in eighth place. However, feet on the ground and all that.

A positive result for me would be a draw. Tottenham have been in fine form and have been grinding out results in a rather mechanical yet effective fashion. Defence has been their strong point but I do fancy us to get a goal. We’ve scored in every league game apart from the opening two fixtures so we do present a threat. In theory anyway…

Team news will be published below as and when it becomes available and keep an eye out for any links to any internet stream that are posted in the ‘comments’ section below if you’re struggling to find a way to watch the game. If you’re looking for a bit of a preview then why not have a mooch at Marktoon’s most excellent match preview by following the links below.

Which neatly wraps this up leaving us nothing to concern ourselves with now apart from the match itself.

Howay the lads!

Tottenham: Friedel; Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Chiriches; Paulinho, Dembele, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Townsend, Soldado

Subs: Gomes, Kaboul, Lennon, Lamela, Holtby, Defoe, Sandro

Ok come at this blog at the end of the season and you will see how many goals Soldado has scored. I don’t count Penalty.

I don’t say he is a bad player I just say he is clearly overrated, and paying 30 million for a guy who is 30 years old is clearly a stupidity.
In my opinion every time when Defoe played against us he brings us a lot of problem.

  2. Munich-Agree with you there totally fella. They want us to consistently beat poorer teams (and we do need more consistency..but city just lost to fucking sunderland ffs!) and want us to dominate the bigger clubs and if we don’t then we didn’t deserve to win and it was a bad match. I just don’t get it at all, has to be wind up.

  3. Troy,
Do you still have doubts regarding the quality of our January French recruits?
Or is it purely Pardew’s tactical nous that is getting us the results!
Great 3 points and excellent 1st half performance.

  4. Love how Debuchy is getting praise now.

It wasn’t three weeks ago he was useless. Not good enough for the Championship. 🙄 😆

Several were happy for Tiote to be sold for five or six million 🙄

He WAS poor for a season though. Should we get rid of him now???

Best fans in the world my arse.

  5. HBA,

Penalties are goals. Sorry but they DO count.

Also, if we are going to judge players on their age and transfer values then nearly every player is overrated.

Bale is then massively overrate. But he’s still a brilliant player.

For me, Soldado is better than Defoe without question.

  6. Soldado’s 28 😉

People can bitch and moan as much as they want, personally I’m over the moon with the win and couldn’t give a flying fuck how it came about, guess who’s going to enjoy their day more? 😉

  7. @TGS

So now it’s the January recruits that are saving Pards? 😯

    Poor Pards can’t win. 🙄

    Shame on you TGS. 😳

We can all see you squirming tho. 😛

Bootsy is hanging from a tree mimicking a fruit bat 😛

  8. I’m pleased that Remy has now scored and there is no more of this “He only scores with Cisse so we hae to play him” nonsense. The lad just has great movement 😀

  9. I will assume Mike Williamson is still not a Premiership quality player to most on here despite being our best defender in the Premiership this season, being consistent since we bought him and not really making any more mistakes than any other defender we have.

Oh wait, he only cost a million and came from lower league, therefore he must be crap.

  10. Defense = American English, becoming more prevalent due to spell check, (american made computer software).

    Defence = English.

I wondered what the difference was.

  11. Swansea 1 point off the relegation zone.
Wait, so even with new signings and the mighty Laudrup as manager, the Europa League is affecting their season 😯

  12. We are all adults on this site aren’t we?

Amazing how many sarcastic, childish point scorers come on to comment, rather than simply being happy with 3 well earned away points 🙄

Richie – I’m with you mate,

‘People can bitch and moan as much as they want, personally I’m over the moon with the win and couldn’t give a flying fuck how it came about, guess who’s going to enjoy their day more?’

    Amen to that buddy 😉

  13. DJG-Yeah I always got confused with the spell check on here saying I was spelling it wrong, thankfully i’m not yet americanised. (or should that be ized?)

Solano-Laudrupp is the best manager in the world, he will have Swansea winning the CL within 10 years. That is, if they manage to not get completely turned over by stoke 😆

  14. Sharpy-I was only fishing about because I could see JJ was doing the same. I’m not a big fan of the wind up but I did want to see if someone would ite 😀 I’d still rather us play Cisse than Shola and preferably a midfielder ahead of either of them, but it worked out in the end so i’m happy 😉

  15. Newkie
You can test it because if you search for ‘defense’, the US Department of Defense or something like that will come up. 😛

  16. Too many fickle fans on here.

Had Tim Krul not had such a fantastic game & we’d lost 5-1 people would be moaning about Shola starting, Cisse coming on, Remy going off etc.

Last season we lost to Sunderland & people were moaning about how crap we were – we weren’t crap & we did deserved to beat Sunderland. They won because Cisse was wrongly ruled offside & they managed to take advantage.

Too many fickle fans only care about the result.

If we win – we played amazingly well, great tactics, fantastic players, who would ever want to sell cabaye, tiote, debuchy, williamson etc??

If we lose – Williamson is a championship player, Cabaye is so crap Arsenal didn’t make a second offer, Shola isn’t a footballer, Tiote only turns in circles, Gouffran £800k quality player etc.

Joe kinnear wasn’t wrong about some fans…

  17. Newkie – it wasn’t directly solely at you mate. We have good banter and whilst our views seem to mainly be different, it doesn’t get childish and point scoring. There’s been a few posts since the game tho where I’ve thought, we’ve just beat Spurs away!, why is that comment even being made today :???:. But I understand its a blog and people are entitled to post their thoughts as and when they like.
I’ll be disappearing shortly anyway so won’t worry too much about it 😉 😆

  18. @newkie

We were competitive first half – i would even say we were slightly better.

Second half we were not good enough – i don’t expect us to tear tottenham apart.

I do expect us to do better than we did. It shouldn’t fall on one mans shoulder to carry the team (tim krul). It’s happened before (hba, demba ba) & it happened today (tim krul)

That’s without mentioning how important remy is for us – lots of fickle fans saying they’d rather we didn’t sign him after he turned us down.

They even say the same about demba ba!!

  19. FUNKYJESUS @235

Nail, hammer, head, bang on mate. He didn’t cost £8,000,000 and his name doesn’t end in ‘inho’ is most peoples problem if you ask me. So with James Perch we had to change his name. 😕

  20. Swansea will come right. I think they’ll finish top half.

I really hope we can beat Norwich. Thatll be one hell of a month.

Personally. For those saying Ben Arfa should have played. He, like Cisse don’t deserve to start ATM. Still a good player though.
