Newcastle 5-1 Stoke – Match highlights and managerial interviews

I just thought I’d post some quick highlights of the game yesterday. Enjoy.

Owing to results elsewhere we are now just one point behind fifth placed Everton as we welcome Arsenal on Sunday. This game also improved our goal difference somewhat which you could argue was needed.

It was a controversial performance from referee Martin Atkinson but at the end of the day he made the decisions, not Newcastle, and Stoke were their own worst enemies some of the time. We’ve been on the end of some howlers from officials previously so I’ll take it.

Howay the lads!

  1. I thought the Toon were sluggish until Stoke had the players sent off. It was then a formality.

Some cracking goals and sublime skill from Barfa.

  2. 11 v 11 that could have been a different outcome I think. They were the better team until the sending off – which I’m not entirely convinced they were 2 bookable offences really.
Hughes let his side down by also getting sent off as they were abit all over the place with no-one to organise them.
Lovely pass by Anita for the penalty, and the 2nd sending off was of course the right decision and left them with an uphill battle.

I don’t like a front 3 of Remy, Benny and Goofy. Obviously good players but between them there’s is never anyone breaking their necks to get into the box. Benny was better after the sendings off coz he obviously got more time and space, but before that I just didnt think it has the threat it should.
Please Remy scored after the pen miss, Goofys home scoring continues and pleased to see the team stood by Cisse and allowed him to score the pen.

  3. Well from what i have seen, you are an expert on ‘sluggish’ Troy 😆 so I have to agree! 😆
You can not forget the two missed pens that were not paid.. I swear Haidara must have -tackle me violently- written on the back of his shirt somewhere.. the lad cops some fecking bad tackles 😕

  4. We would have struggled against 11 of Stoke.
Nerveless a great result considering Pardew was at fault for his initial selection whereby Remy was totally isolated and unsupported.
    Sack the FOOL.

  5. Mark Hughes the man who thought Wes Brown getting sent off against stoke a few weeks back was justified thinks Whelan and Wilson were harshly treated.

Nice to see he is still a complete **** and he hasnt lost the spiteful hypocritical side during his post QPR break.

  6. How many times have we taken it in the **** from the refs… fuk Stoke, I have zero pity for them. For once we have been the ****** and not the fuckee

  7. Aussie – I don’t think anyone would disagree with you mate. I think the point people are making – or certainly my point is that prior to the refs intervention Stoke were the better side.

  8. Sharpy, I know mate, still don’t care tho 😉 I’ve played in many games where we have been the better team but have been done over by a ref.. sooo, Stoke can cry away and accept the football is an ugly ***** sometimes

  9. I think the decisions the ref got wrong likely had little bearing on the outcome. The first sending off may have been harsh, but it wasn’t wrong. Only the handball decision and HBA taking the ball out of play were given incorrectly.
By that time they were already down to 9.
Perfect result. Great to see HBA gaining some confidence and awesome to see Cisse smash in that penalty. Fair play to Remy for not trying to claim it for the hattrick. (and also kudos to Cabaye/Shola/HBA who are all further up in the penalty taker order)

  10. As has been said, up until the sending off, Stoke were the better team and deserved the lead.
I’ve praised Pardew a lot of time recently about tactics however the first half was so wrong, and aided in Stoke being the better team, I think he would have changed it even if the sendings off hadn’t of happened.
Hope we go with 2 up top against Arsenal and give it a good go, Sissoko and Debuchy could tear Gibbs a new one

  11. Stoke have had more than their share of refereeing howlers go for them this season: The penalty at Swansea, The Brown red card and the Crouch handball for the winner just last week was blatant to name a few.

Well have something go against us next month no doubt and something will fall Stokes way again soon as well.

  12. Aussie – likewise, **** um!. But if we start like that against Arsenal I fear we may be punished alot worse.
I hope Pardew doesn’t overlook that first 30-40mins simply coz we won the game comfortably in the end.

  13. Exactly CC, you have to take the good with the bad.. Sharpy, yep we were poor, it was the first time in a while tho, no need to panic as far as i am concerned..

  14. Arsenal coming up next. Very difficult game for us but if we defend well and take our chances there’s no reason why we can’t win. I hope Mike show’s some ambition in january and signs a striker to help us push the top 6 all the way to the end of the season.

  15. To be fair Arsenal were as sluggish if not more so than us yesterday and were bloody lucky not to be 3-0 down before turning it on.

  16. Aussie – not panic but I’d hope Pardew be mindful of it. I think in the past he has got lost in the praise when we have good runs of form. I just don’t want him to get complacent that’s all.

It was interesting to hear him say after the match that the players made the decisions on who took the pens as well

  17. Just watching ssn its a **** fest over malky mackay at the minute. I understand he was treated unfairly by getting an ultimatum and all and that he done well with Cardiff in the Championship.

Cardiff have spent over £30 million this year and are playing ***** if that ultimatum had not been made to Malky it would have just been another standard sacking of a poor manager.

You would think they are in contention to win the league the way sky is going on about him.

  18. We can all understand the Stoke fans anger, Christ knows we been in their position often enough. They will get the rub of the green another time and we will get pooped on yet again at some point so tbh I don’t give a stuff about them really. They are all slagging Cabaye off for being a cheat and diver and saying we will all be deluded thinking we’ll make the CL, oh and the best bit is they never had a chance cause apparently we are one of the media darlings 😯 . They really haven’t got a clue have they, have they seriously not seen the **** ripped out of this club time and time again or the fact we are so often the laughing stock of the PL. 🙁

  19. @ KIMTOON
least we been to the champions league unlike stoke 😆 😆 😆

    media darlings eh 😆 😆 😆 😆

I’m 100% with you on that. Tan’s execution is the only thing wrong about this whole situation. Mackay has spent a lot of money (4th biggest spenders since they were promoted) and the results/performances don’t match the outplay. God forbid a chairman that actually wants some sort of return on his investment…

  21. Some idiot on Talksport has just said that we have a transfer budget that far exceeds Southampton’s. 😆

Do these clowns ever know what they are talking about?

  22. The Kid@24, NO 😉

Santi@20, Aye, he gives good copy does Joey.

TAE@21, True mate, they have forgotten that. 🙄

  23. Santi @20

    😆 😆 classic, man. classic.

After watching the match, I think it was typical of what I’ve seen of us so far under Pardew. We seem to be a second half team. I think we would have edged it even had Stoke continued with 11 players, but it would have been more like 2-1. It wasn’t. They ****** good and proper by the officials, and we did what we should have done- focused on goal difference. Lettin’ Cisse take the pen was MINT, I might add.

  24. OHURLEY

Not sure if we are a ‘2nd half’ team, but we most certainly are a ‘shoot towards the Gallowgate’ team 😆

  25. The Kid,

I believe that makes **** good sense hehe! All in all, I’m pleased as punch with the team this year. When the season started after the re-appointment of JFK, I feared relegation. Now we’re sitting 6th, only a few points away from guaranteed safety and it’s not even 2014 yet! I’m over the moon lol

  26. Everybody is in agreement that we struggled against stoke before the sending off.

On paper, i would say that we started with a strong lineup. Certainly a lineup that should not struggle against stoke.

So what we should be wondering is why did we struggle. Was it pardews team talk? Was it because stoke were scary? Was it tiredness?

I’m of the opinion that it was tiredness. For some reason our players can’t give 100% if they play 2 games a week. We had the same problem vs swansea & we had the same problem last season.

The new fitness coach has done well in making sure we have no injuries but either we need to rotate the players more or the players need to be fitter.

I want to see fitter players & squad rotation or else we will fade away as the season carries on

  27. I also want to see anita, tiote, sissoko, cabaye, gouffran & shola start vs arsenal on sunday.

We need to control the centre of the pitch & that’s our strongest midfield.

I’d want to see ameobi play because i think he will prove difficult for arsenal to handle.

Hopefully shola, cabaye, sissoko, gouffran will threaten arsenals goal & then maybe later on bring on ben arfa & one of either cisse or remy (not sure who yet).

Gouffran will be one of those that gets subbed because he usually runs out of energy.
