Game On! Newcastle v Cardiff – FA Cup 3rd Round

The FA Cup.

The FA Cup.
Up for a cup?
Good afternoon all, and welcome to this special ‘Game On’ article which will take us through the start of what is hopefully a decent stab at trying to win some silverware.

The visitors today are Cardiff City who will travel to the North-East with their 300 fans in tow hoping for a first win for new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in this FA Cup 3rd round encounter.

However United will want to progress themselves and although the domestic cups are “not a priority” according to the hierarchy at the club, I do feel that at pitch level those words are lost and that the manager and players want to be professional and try to win a trophy. After all, that is the point in football isn’t it?

The early team news is that Fabricio Coloccini, Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy will definitely miss the match through injury and suspension whilst Tim Krul is doubtful. Official team news will be published shortly after 2pm and can be found at the bottom of this article but in the meantime why not head over to the match preview and immerse yourself in some history of the fixture along with aforementioned injury news and some possibly inane rambling from myself.

The bad news is that there are a lot of games today and ours isn’t exactly top of the bill and so isn’t being advertised as being broadcast anywhere here in the UK or overseas. However there is still a slim chance that there may be a stream available so if anyone does find one then please feel free to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

It just feels to me as though the FA Cup has been devalued somewhat in recent years. It used to be THE cup to go for but at the end of the day I guess money talks and the serious money is no longer in the domestic cup competitions.

However as I said in my preview, we are surely ideally placed to have a go at bringing the fans some success? We aren’t going to get relegated and we aren’t going to finish much, if any, higher than we are now in the league so why not go for it. With some intent and a bit of luck why can’t we go far?

Howay the lads!

  1. I sometimes wonder if Pardew actually rates any of the players except Colo ,Tiote,Cabs ,Santon and debuchy . I started thinking it a while back ,he always praises certain players but hardly ever the whole unit ,i sometimes think the players think , hang on he does not rate me so f##k him and thats why we see such inept performances when its not our first 11 on the pitch . Just a thought and i could be wide of the mark .

  2. we need proper wingers who can get in a good cross
Cisse can score with his head, but he needs quality service.

  3. Batty I have been saying it for a while he has hardly played this season and has scored 3 goals, but some seem to be happier to see Strolla play and he has scored how many 😯

  4. Big Dave – shola has attributes, but scoring goals isn’t one of them 🙁

  5. Cisse has been abysmal with his shooting too mind. Don’t kid yourself he is back to his best.
But I agree he needs to play.

  6. I am certain Cisse will get a on a run if hes just kept in the team: He scored against Leeds then didnt play the next match, He scored against Norwich then didnt play the next match.

If Shola starts next week the lad might as well leave

  7. BB I dont think for 1 min he is even half way back to his best, and I agree that his shooting has been abysmal but still not as bad as Strollas

  8. Agreed Big Dave.
I do think Pardew wants to much extra stuff from our strikers, that is why they are often found out wide, when they should be in the feckin box.
A good striker should be focused on scoring goals first and foremost.
They can’t do that on the wing
Pardew is clueless. His first priority for all players is to DEFEND first.
He really doesn’t understand attacking football. 😳

  9. He has to the audacity to say because there wasn’t 50,000 there today the atmosphere was a bit flat. The lucky ones were the 20,000 who didn’t turn up.
Pathetic and inept. I am still trying to work out why the Alien came on to the pitch. I thought we had seen through him months ago.

Would also have been a decent touch to give Jonas a game in this meaningless match so we could if said our thanks and goodbyes. He and Marveux have obviously played their last games

  10. Wait a minute, we are complaning that Cisse is persecuted as he is best in the box but is expected to do more?

Isn’t this the reason people hated Leon Best, because he was too near the box, despite him having a good assist record and a decent goal record to boot?

Christ, no wonder a lot of players don’t want to play at Newcastle when nothing is ever good enough.

  11. Toby , maybe lots didn’t go after hearing cups weren’t a priority in that meeting. Reaping what you sow springs to mind, another ******* dropped by Jabba & co.

Never mind. At least there’s a never-ending future of pointless mediocrity to look forward to.

    couldn’t agree more mate 👿

  14. this is what i got via mobil, only saying what ive heard dont know how much truth there is in it;;;;;;;;Alan Pardews Black & White Army
about an hour ago via Mobile
Newcastle United have confirmed that Alan Pardew has Lefe Newcastle and Joe Kinner will take over for city game

The lucky 20.000 might be season ticket holders looking to cancel this month.
A lot of fans cancelling season tickets will certainly grab Ashleys attention.

  16. more from mobil;;;;;;Alan pardew was told by Mike Ashley he is to be sacked and Joe Kinner has been Named Caretaker Manager until a New Manager is found

  17. ime not saying its 100% right only passing imfo ime hearing, could be ****,just passing what ive heard as i said

  18. Pardew as a person doesn’t deserve to be sacked. He honestly tries hard & has had a tough time at the club.

Pardew as a manager should never have been hired. I really hope the news is true. Even if it does mean Joe Kinnear takes over.

How long does anybody think Kinnear will realy last?

He certainly won’t be able to see out an 8 year contract & therefore doesn’t run the risk of sticking around as long as Pardew could.

  19. If it’s true, hopefully this time we finally sign a young, modern progressive manager (not AVB!)

We haven’t had a decent manager since SBR. Even the KK appointment was a mistake but it was probably the best appointment under Ashley so far.

If you sack enough average/bad managers eventually you’ll get a good one.

      (Quote)

  20. Ah, it’s not true anyway.

Finishing barely above relegation isn’t enough for Mike to push Pardew.

As good a scout Graham Carr is, you would think he would know a couple of upcoming managers?

It’s like that Stardust article a while ago. Pardew want’s his team to play one way. Graham Carr is building a team to play a different way (Anita!).

The logical move is for one to give way for the other.

I’ve been impressed with all our signings so surely Carr wins??

  21. Comments from West Ham fans (sound familiar?):

It does seem that people hark back to good times and forget the bad ones as times passes.

The football on the whole under Pardew was poor. The players often looked confused, and I doubt he had the coaching skills then

9 years or so later, he seems more controlled in what he says, but at the end it was dire under Pardew

      (Quote)

  22. I actually thought Pardew was a really nice guy, humble even but i never knew about this:

‘Connolly, he’d lost the dressing room , that’s what would normally happen when you start fucking about with people’s wives. Allardyce seems to have lost the dressing room too but I don’t think for one minute it’s because of the same reason.’

Hopefully it’s not true otherwise i’d really lose any sympathy i have for him.

  23. 🙄 got a call 4 hours ago about that, all stemmed from a faked photo shopped tweet that was used last year too apparently 🙄

“I bet Ashley’s happy, no europen football”

Aye, but he’ll be fecking the team up in the transfer window, just to be on the safe side (and to grasp at a few more quid obviously).

  25. Holy overreaction, Batman. 🙄

Strangely ambivalent about the cup loss. Could be that I’m still in holiday mode, or that my brain has been fried by the heat.

      (Quote)

  26. Pardew complaining about to many games over xmas and changing the date of the fa cup. Pardew i’m sure Jabba will be proud of you. This is the only club that doesn’t want to win anything! I team’s all want Newcastle in the third round.

      (Quote)

  27. Didn’t watch the game, can anyone give a lowdown on player performances?
Did anyone that came in the side show any promise?

      (Quote)

  28. The fans inevitably shouting for Pardew out aren’t worth paying attention to imo. Even last year it was questionable whether we would get someone that would have done much better give the level of injuries we had, and just having one mis-firing striker.
This year we are still currently doing well! So people wanting him out are beyond a joke.

      (Quote)

  29. Upset we are out of the cup though.
This was definitely a year where we could have given it a proper go.
Does the fact that Pardew chose to rest players in the cup and not the league signal that he is chasing a Europa League spot in the league?
That goes against him being Ashley’s puppet and just wanting survival 😯

      (Quote)

  30. Still feeling really deflated this morning, truly gutted that we are out of the cup AGAIN. 👿 .On the bright side Cisse scored which shows given enough time on the pitch and a little faith from Pards and the fans he could get back to his old self.

      (Quote)

  31. Salano We need Demba Ba back to have any chance of Europe. Remy isn’t as good as Ba and I would forgive Ba in a heart beat.
Sale Jonas to Norwich and get it done before Manchester City.

      (Quote)

  32. I don’t see why Ba and Cisse can’t work together with a good midfield around them. Pardew has to get them to settle there differences. It’s about the team winning and not individual success

      (Quote)

  33. Somebody wake Kinnear up before transfer deadline day. He ain’t going to get mega buck for Jonas and Obertan so get what you can.
