Redknapp names price for Loic Remy

Remy's future still no clearer
Remy’s future still no clearer
Newcastle have been told that they may have to stump up £16 million if they wish to make Loic Remy’s deal permanent, or risk losing out on him completely.

Harry Redknapp has now hinted that he is willing to let the former Marseille striker leave Loftus Road on more than just a loan deal but feels that the performances of the 27-year-old since his arrival in the Premier League warrant a fee that is double what QPR paid just over a year ago.

Remy is our top scorer this season despite the flow of goals slowing down in recent weeks. However his his contribution of ten goals in 18 appearances for us this term added to the six goals scored for QPR at the tail end of last season give him a record of 16 goals in 32 league appearances since his move across La Manche – a record of a goal every other game.

“I don’t know what the deal is,” said Redknapp. “You’d think they’d want to snap him up, wouldn’t you? If they don’t, then someone else will.”

“For what we got him for, he’s probably worth double that now. He’s scored goals in the Premier League again this year.”

“Would we want him in the Premier League? That’s all ifs and buts. You’ve got to get there first, and if someone came and offered £15m or £16m for him, I’d sell him if it was my choice. But it’s not, it’s down to the chairman.”

The problem is, as I understood it at the time, there is some form of clause in the deal with Remy where a permanent fee has already been kind of agreed between the two club and representatives of Remy but it’s not quite as cut and dry as paying that fee and signing the player.

Remy still has allegations of rape hanging over him which would have a severe impact if anything ever comes of it. Obviously I know nothing of the detail and that is something for the legal system to sort out, but if you look at it from a business perspective, do you sign a player who could potentially be unavailable for an amount of time?

Redknapp is just trying to spark up some interest in Remy. There may well be other clubs taking a look but all he is trying to do is to get Newcastle to blink first in my opinion.

What do you think?

  1. Back to 4-4-2 please the tactic that got are good run started with 4 wins on the bounce. **** the possession battle.

  2. I still feel only top of the fantasy league should be allotted the coveted “Armchair Manager” title for that week. It’ll be me soon I can feel it…slipped off a bit aint you Aus 🙂

  3. Santii,
4-4-2 means Shola. But against Man City I guess I’m ok with that. Because we sure as hell aren’t going to create much for Cisse or Remy anyway.

He’s going to have his work cut out against Kompany but heck, its a tough tough game.

Man City are playing 4-4-2 at the moment so a three man midfield would be preferable to me.

Whoever plays left back is in for a hell of a task too with Zabelta and Navas bombarding down that side.

I think Tiote is good enough to keep Silva quiet. But then its Nasri vs Santon and Anita vs Yaya Toura (bit of a mismatch in size there).

IMO, City will wreak havoc down our left defensive side and if we go 4-4-2 Toure will destroy us down the middle.

  4. Why do no one thinks that Man city will concede goals? 😯

Let AngelOfDeath to spread some positivity and light in here… 😆 😆

If you take a look at League table, and all the away games man city played, they conceded total of 17 goals…. 5th in the most away goals conceded… even nufc concede only 15 goals till now.

2ndly, man city took till extra time to beat us 2 goals in league cup.

So, i strongly believe we can score goals against man city.. whether we will win, must see the performance of the defense. 😆

  5. Santii – who would you start with Remy mate?

Formations is the one thing I’m glad has finally died off, this time last year it was all the rage to call 4-4-2 outdated, seems a bit quieter now like 😛

  6. Newkie,
Was making a nice charge up the table until the last two weeks. Didn’t pick my team in time and the Man City players I had as captain and vice captain were both rested. My December was as bad as the Toons.

Still half a season to go though. This will be a big points week.

I’m still torn between starting Lallana or Barkley though ❓ 😎

      (Quote)

  7. JJ-You worry about the left but I’m seriously worried about the right. Santon just does not impress me there at all, and lined up next to williamson against their technical players, it could get ugly.

Still, at least we won’t have steven taylor trying to punch people in the face.

      (Quote)

  8. AOD,
Because in order to score, we need the ball. I don’t see us having much of it. There defense is much better with Kompany back fit and Shola will probably be up front again which doesn’t scream goals.

Also, our main threat from set pieces is out injured and our main attacking outlet down the right is suspended.

Gouff will be playing most of the game as a second left back tracking back on Zabaleta so Remy with have to feed off Shola’s scraps.

With no Colo, we’ll be hoofing a lot more at the back because Willo isn’t the best passer and he relies on Cabaye or Colo to do most of the forward distribution for him. Both are missing.

Basically we are relying on Shola to have a power game and dominate aerially against Kompany.

      (Quote)

  9. JJ you are Not4KingHere United I’m guessing? Yeah taking the captaincy off Suarez is always a gamble now, I switched it to Rooney a while ago and he earned a mighty 6 points compared to what Suarez would have had like 40 so I had to sell the ***** obviously 🙂

I’d go for Lallana, was tempted to put him in after walcott got crocked but when for Eriksen instead. I’ve sold Remy as well so that means he will start scoring for the toon again, watch this space 😆

      (Quote)

  10. Newkie,
I’m worried about everywhere in this game but mainly the left.

Santon is usually exposed going forward and then us getting caught on the break. I’m not too worried about that because I don’t see us going forward much. 😉 Basically see us playing long ball with 90 minutes of desperate defending.

      (Quote)

  11. Newkie,
I wouldn’t call any formation outdated. But you need the right players for 4-4-2 and I believe we’re a quality touchline hugging wing and a quality target man short of having a good side for 4-4-2.

Since City have gone back to 4-4-2 they’ve been almost invincible.

      (Quote)

  12. In fairness (my comment @85),

I think Pardew has been very poor with his managing the past three weeks. But he’s screwed this week. I can’t see any Toon side really coping no matter what selection or formation.

    Too many key players out.

      (Quote)

  13. JJ-To be fair I don’t think we played hoofball against them in the cup and I think we held our own well enough in some respects, held them for the 90 anyway. Other than the 4-0 we’ve actually not played so badly against city each time we’ve met in the last 3/4 years, they just have that bit of class and we’ve never really worried them. But they are in form now of course so 😕

JJ-We do need those additions but even so we have made our own brand of 4-4-2 work. We have a striker and a central midfielder on the wings ffs 😆 but it’s been working and if Pardew can keep getting the graft out of them then it will do. We do really need a winger though.

      (Quote)

  14. Bafe Gomis cause we will sign him today Newkie 😀

It has to be Shola as we have seen he and Remy can work well. Sissoko and Gouffran will have the wings closed down. With Tiote and Anita in the centre the long ball to shola and Remy will probably be our most creative outlet tbh. 2 banks of 4 and counter attack is what has been our most successful plan in recent years.

4-4-2 will never go away newkie it is the most balanced and versatile tactic around. Why people bash on it I don’t know probably because spain don’t use it 😀

      (Quote)

  15. @JJ

    Is Debuchy not still out?

Santon will probably continue on the right with Haidara on the left I would have thought. Our wingers do more than enough to cover the full backs in a 4-4-2 imo

Your right that the centre will be a big problem but again with 2 banks of four we will be hard to break down and with 2 strikers up front it wont give them free roam to push up as high as they want.

      (Quote)

  16. Santii 😆 a new striker would be nice. But yeah agree with that, although Shola is looking a bit knackered. Tempted by 4-3-3 with Remy out wide and Cisse in the middle but to be honest I think our full backs need the protection of dedicated wingers ahead of them 😕

      (Quote)

  17. Santii,
That’s what I meant… Debuchy is our main attacking outlet and he’s out.

Santon is a good deputy on but not as good defensively. He’ll have to handle Nasri whose been in great form.

Haidara shows good signs but its a tough ask for him to deal with Navas and Zabaleta. That’s why left side worries me.

I know Gouff can cover but still, there goes our attacking threat down the left then.

Disagree though with Shola up top they can play as higher defensive line as they like. He’s so slow.

I know Remy has a bit of pace, but he usually likes to gather the ball from deep or from wide positions.

Personally, I’d play Remy alone up front with Ben Arfa. He holds the ball up better than Shola does anyway and he’s more likely to score from the little possession I expect us to have.

If he plays as he usually does – an individual – that’s fine because we’ll be short of numbers up front anyway.

  18. Loving seeing Fat Sam squirm. So overrated, cannot believe he has managed to stay in the top flight so long over the likes of Holloway or any other young British managers holding firm in the Championship.

Hopefully when he gets sacked, we’ll have seen the back of him in the PL. Be nice f we have seen the last of Redknapp too.

  19. I know the mirror are saying Jonas will bump up in pay after a certain amount of appearance so the club don’t want him reaching that height. If that actually is the case he needs to be sold quickly so we have a squad player that can actually contribute…I really like Jonas but I think his time is done, wages would be better spent elsewhere.

      (Quote)

  20. Shamrock-hopefully they stick with him and he takes them down, that will smash his little “i never get relegated” talk, he will have set the rot in a number of sides and taken a side down so hopefully no more prem jobs…but Mark Hughes is still here as well so who knows 😆

  21. lol yeah true. Agree Jonas is well past it now, happy to see him leave personally. He lost his legs about 2 years ago.

  22. JJ

Sorry don’t mean to be pedantic but ” I’d play Remy alone up front with Ben Arfa.”

I am guesing you meant Ben Arfa just behind which would then really be a 4-4-1-1 which I think is another good counter set up. As you say we will see little of the ball so we have to play on the break.

The Ben Arfa conundrum 😀 for me he is an impact sub and is way to over rated by most of the fans. He has proven time and again he can not play well consistently over a period of games. He really only plays amazing when the rest of the team look abysmal. That says it all really.

And I hate to be one of the fans that hate on any of our players cause I love Ben Arfa and would love him to be the player that people think he is but he just isn’t he offers very little to the team and is deservedly 2nd string to Sissoko at the minute.

You’re deluded if you actually think we deserved to win that game against spurs. Every neutral fan will tell you that…

    @Bigdave
You’re suffereing from the effects of the club chronically underperforming. Too many heartbreaking results have got you wanting points more than wanting a performance.

Seems odd that you get more pleasure from looking at the table than you do get from watching the matches & our performances. Still, after watching some of our matches, sometimes i feel the same as you.

Pulis left stoke because performances were boring. It’s also on of the excuses chelsea came up with when the sacked mourinho the first time.

Or if we win 6 in a row before claiming that everton are in a different league to us.

I haven’t put my pitchfork away since pardew was first appointed.

One good season & suddenly this league 1 manager is good enough to be managing the 20th biggest club in the world despite barely avoiding relegation last year (thanks again bosingwa for saving us from relegation).

I can’t think of many people on here that ever wanted pardew in the first place.

I also can’t think of many people wanting pardew to be here towards the end of last season or anyone who thinks he deserves an 8 year contract.

There are more than enough reasons to have the pitchforks.

  40. @mark 😀

I thought pulis only tried to mix it up because of pressure from the fans & board?

He sure knows his limits now.

I honestly don’t think there is much of a difference between Big Sam & Pardew. Swap both of them over & i’d expect them to achievr very similar results.

Aye, there isnt much difference apart from Pardew is a little more deluded in thinking he isnt like Big Sam 😀

  42. @mark

Fair enough, if he is an improvement on sammy although i do quite like sammy.

I don’t think gosling will be able to break into the team so you’re right abput moving on some of the players.

  43. One player I’m interested to see when we play Man City is James Milner. He has continued to improve and mature as a player and Pellegrini often uses him as an impact sub now. We could certainly use him as a winger. Do you think Pellegrini would go for Sammi, Obertan, Gosling, Vuckic, and Marveaux for Milner (if they offered to keep paying half of Milner’s wages of course)? This is tongue in cheek but I rate him very highly now whereas we have quite a bit of dross which Joe is doing nothing about. Well done Joe, Director of F*** All.

      (Quote)

  44. tbh I think Milner isnt any better than when we had him.

Bigdave was using sarcasm but sometimes it doesn’t work too well online.

It’s me that thinks performance is more important than points. A lot of the stoke fans think it too which is why pulis isn’t there anymore.

Anybody that would rather we won a few more points in exchange for terrible football, shouldn’t have a problem with the brand of football pulis likes his team playing.

They also shouldn’t have too much of a problem with kinnear taking over as manager.

I prefer performances more than points. It’s nice to get both but i spend more time watching a match than i do looking at the table.

I’d rather we come runners up & be known as the entertainers than if we had won the league playing terribly boring football.

If it’s a cup competition i might have a different opinion but in a 38 game season, i don’t think i could cope with rubbish football.

Would arsenal fans have given up on wengers football style just for the sake of a few more trophies?

    I wouldn’t bet on it.

There is a reason why alot of man utd fans are called glory hunters & it might have something to do with those boring 1-0 wins.

However, man utd have also played some fantastic football over the years so this debate doesn’t realky apply to them. Tgey have played good fotball & they have won with it.

I do think we’re too big to get relegated. It’s happened recently but i don’t expect to see it happen again (or at least for a very very long time).

There are quite a few on here who think we should be a midtable club.

If we’re not going to get relegated & we’re not capable (or interested) of finishing in a european place, are points really more important than performances.

If the points don’t make much difference than whats the point?

      (Quote)

  58. @Bigdave

That’s a bit of an unfair question buddy 😆

Obviously if relegation is a worry then getting 40pts is more important.

I don’t think a club like ours should have to worry about relegation so 40pts is not important to me. I expect us to easily pass the 40pts mark every season.

Wigan is an interesting example though:
They had a much weaker squad.
They played good football (as you mentioned).
They beat Man City in the cup final.
They finished 2 places below us & 5 points behind us (1 win & 1 draw).
They had a -3 goal difference compared to us.

Would wigan have finished higher if they had our group of players? Definitely.

Was it because of martinez & his pretty football?
    Probably.
