Game On! Norwich v Newcastle

Magpies take on Canaries
Magpies take on Canaries
Good evening all. Just a quick article here to take you through the clash with Norwich this evening.

Why is it quick? Well because I’m slaving away at work once more so haven’t had much time to get anything done recently but hopefully the game tonight will give you all enough to talk about anyway and the relative shortness of this article will not be noticed much.

I’ve gone into the fixture in more detail in the match preview which you can view here including injury news for both sides, a history of the fixture and some fun facts and stats for you to run your eyes over. Please take some time to have a look if you haven’t already done so.

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK but will be broadcast on a number of overseas channels so hopefully picking up a stream won’t be too much of an issue. I suspect it might be though so if you do happen to stumble across a stable stream then please share it with your fellow fans and post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

Early team news has been touched upon in the previously linked match preview but for official team news please check the bottom of this article roughly one hour before kick-off where you should find it in all of its glory.

Howay the lads!

i think Marseille were trying to tap him up as well which may have something to do with the agent fee’s going up but the deal was in place and they (agents) kept moving the goal posts.

    G2

I couldn’t tell you what goes on during the negotiations but i am happy to know we wont be taken for mugs on transfers.

  2. Fair enough Santii mate. I don’t think we’ll ever be taken for mugs but we will miss out on a lot of very good players. And we do often intentionally underbid. Not that I distrust Mikey’s motives or anything. 😆

  3. Based on the players we’re linked with I agree that Charnley and Carr are in charge of things.

Though I wonder how JK would pronounce “Grenier”

  5. yes pretty sure it was agents being greedy re-Gomis,just found this

7 Jan 2014 – Tottenham and Newcastle have been warned they will have to pay £1million in fees to agents if they attempt to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi.

      (Quote)

  6. Grenier’s agent is Frederic Guerra who just so happens to represent a certain Loic Remy 😉

Gomis agent is Italian Francesco Di Frisco

At least the agents are not the same 😉

  7. This window? Probably Grenier. Just kidding. Other windows I would have to dig back but there were many slick moves that were tried and failed. Like trying to get Neil Taylor for 1M pounds for example. There have been quite a few but I would have to look back. We put in a fairly derisory bid for Carroll a while back of 7M. I realize it’s hard to estimate Carroll’s real value now with all the injuries but I think it was not a serious bid. We’ve chased a lot of strikers with lowball bids as well. And the whole helicopter thing for Bryan Ruiz was hilarious as well.

#nufc statement on Cabaye: “The Club wanted to keep him but the lure of Champions League football…”

    😆 pull the other one

      (Quote)

  9. @G2

iirc we thought Neil Taylor had a clause in his contract and it was some random thing that we thought we could exploit (but couldn’t). The bid was rejected and the clause explained.

I can’t even remember the Andy Carroll bid but i can remember the rumours of us and west ham in for him. If that is the time you are thinking off. Are you sure it wasn’t just paper talk?

      (Quote)

  10. I would say the lure of a fair wage was actually a big part of Cabaye leaving us. And Mikey knows it. He gets 20M back for a 4M pound investment and sheds Cabaye’s wage. Bring in a younger, cheaper replacement and voila, lots of dosh for Mikey.

      (Quote)

  11. G2, yep the Ruiz helicopter thing was classic 😆 And how’s he doing now by the way 😉 Last season amassed 5 goals, bullet dodged.

  12. It’s almost impossible to be certain of anything in football nowadays Santii mate but I wouldn’t trust Ashley as far as I could kick him. And I couldn’t kick him very far, even these days. He’s known to be a vicious piece of work. There have been several articles describing his dealings that can be looked up easily on the net if you’re curious.

      (Quote)

  13. Just seen De Jong on SSN. Doesn’t sound the happiest but at least he speaks English! Reckons he is ready and fit for the derby…good, doubt you’ll have any choice anyway 😆

      (Quote)

  14. Santii. It was on SSN yellow breaking bar on a sunday that we had approached Liverpool with a bid to loan with view to buy back for around £12m if I remember rightly mate. Liverpool rejected it, their fans were up in arms on all the blogs at our cheek having already mugged them off once 😆

      (Quote)

  15. G2 @ 388

Was just about to say the same thing about his wage. In football talk the lure of champions league really mean i just doubled my wage 😀

Cant blame him though. All the best Dreamboat. It will be tough getting on ahead off Verratti, Matuidi and Motta.

Newkie has it been confirmed then?

      (Quote)

  16. It will be interesting to see how Pardew tries to use de Jong. The way it stands now we have no decent striker to pair him with unless you count Shola (no, please that makes me laugh so hard my sides hurt). Remy suspended, Cisse injured apparently (how did he do that?), Gouffy injured, Shola paraplegic. It will be difficult for a few games.

      (Quote)

  17. The Cabaye deal has been confirmed. 3.5 years. He’s in there with plenty of dosh and a fair chance to make the starting team but lots of competition. Something he would never have had to face with us (nor would he have ever been paid fairly).

      (Quote)

  18. That must be it Kim lass. It must be all the bending down to sit on the bench. What in the world is going to happen with him? He could have played against Sunderland with everyone else injured or suspended but instead he’s injured as well. Can’t see him recovering from this season to play well with us ever again. Gone in the summer I would think if anyone bids that is. 🙁

      (Quote)

  19. I just read a article by Quinn when he was chairman of scum he said it was a nightmare in Jan window and fell out with Bruce a few times over it,players were sitting in car parks waiting to sign but diff agents would walk in and say you cannot sign him unless I am part of the deal. ect etc sometimes the player didn’t even know the agent it all stalls deals you end up putting there names on paperwork just to get deal done as other clubs are waiting to move on the player, does sound a bit harder than some think

      (Quote)

  20. Santii, I don’t think there is any French hate is there 😯 😕 ,more a case of wanting a good mix of nationalities I think and maybe the odd local lad ofcourse. 😀

      (Quote)

  21. Ice, it’s a bloody mine field signing players now, still it beats me how other clubs manage to do it so much quicker than us like. 😕

      (Quote)

  22. Ice

i think that was one of the problems with Gomis as well he had about 5 or 6 agents all wanting a piece of the pie.

      (Quote)

  23. Santii-yep, loan to buy apparently.

Kim-yep, big chance for him that’s for sure. I’m not convinced he’ll start though, he’s played 80 minutes of competitive football in a half season 😕

      (Quote)

  24. @Stuart79 – 354

    ‘cuckoo, cuckoo’ ❗

Is that supposed to be witty??

De Jong, is at the club.

    Remy is at the club.

Grenier is a realistic target & you’re making cuckoo sounds as though it will never happen 🙄

    Nevermind…

      (Quote)

  25. Guys what has happened with our recent (last 2 years :D) January buys… They have made instant impacts. Sissoko and Gouffran last year and Cisse the year before 😀 Lets keep this trend going please.

I don’t think he will start but will make an appearance at some point.

  28. Kinnear doesnt deserve any credit; Charnley is in charge of negotiating the deals, Carr is spotting the players and Pardew is coaching them

Kinnear according to the ne press lads is a doing his standard **** all and continues to steal wages freed up by disgracefully letting some of the opponent analysis/match prep lads leave in the summer.

      (Quote)

  29. The real truth is that Joe had come out and expressed his man love feelings for Cabaye and wor lad suddenly realized he had to leave in a hurry. 🙂 Wise move Yohann. All the best with PSG and France.

      (Quote)

  30. Ah that’s it then Kim mate. Yohann actually wanted to win something? Where did he get such high falutin’ ideas? The nerve of him!

      (Quote)

  31. Good to see De Jong in, well I was totally wrong, although it is a loan. Hopefully he enjoys his time on Tyneside and plays well. He seems to have had a tough time in Germany but you never know with strikers, they are a strange breed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays well for us, he was obviously rated highly as a Dutch international forward. They are weaker in defence but they have some quality forwards so he must have something going for him to play for them and score so many goals at Twente.

      (Quote)

  32. I’ve gone back to thinking about how we can shed some more contracts for ridiculously overpaid players like Cabaye. Our top player should be on 50K (a year) and no more as our owner is poor and it doesn’t pay much to be in the Prem. I’m sure all right minded people will agree.

      (Quote)

  33. You know I’ve finally come to realize all I really wanted for my club was fiscal solvency. It’s a beautiful thing. A nice framed statement of solvency to parade in the streets. A squad of young up and coming but low paid street urchins. It’s all we really need to be happy.

      (Quote)

  34. Good luck to Yohan Cabaye at PSG. The transfer all seems to have been done in the right way and no bad feeling or slagging off from any party involved. I liked Cabaye as a player and am grateful to him for whatever part he played in getting Debuchy to NUFC. I hope he goes on to win many trophies with PSG.

I also have a very good feeling about De Jong to be honest. I think once he’s shaken the ring rust off, he will prove a few people wrong – especially in Germany. I’d be interested to know how much his fee would be if we sign him on a permanent deal as well.

      (Quote)

  35. Bloody hell, Joe Kinnear actually signed De Jong on loan. I’m shocked to tell you the truth. Joe must fill absolutely knackered and need another holiday. It’s only a loan signing but he can’t be any worse than Ameobi or Cisse but it will do. Please play De Jong and Armstong against Sunderland. He can’t do any worse than Shola or Cisse.

      (Quote)

  36. STEM hate to burst the bubble but Joe had nowt to do with deal,it was Charley,Joe is just the mouth piece

      (Quote)

  37. Sharpy I saw somewhere that the de jong purchase fee is 8.5M….anyone confirm that?

If so that’s good business I reckon

  38. I want Joe Kinnear’s job icedog. It must be nice to get paid for doing nowt. I don’t understand why we need a director of football.

      (Quote)

  39. Its interesting how on the NUFC official site news it tells us there is a buy clause in the deal but on Remy’s confirmation there was no mention of any buy clause. Anything in that i don’t know. Make of it what you will.

  44. Stem – you can’t have Joes job mate, it’s Sholas when he retires – he’s made for it to be fair. The toon have been paying him for doing nowt for years 😆

MDS – for a £12.5m fee to Gbach to £8.5m to us isn’t bad business at all IMO – has to prove himself first of course

Kim – his brother can follow him over in the summer with any luck.

      (Quote)

  45. Funny I’m sure i seen reports in the papers the other day he was in Germany to get the deal done.

Though i certainly don’t believe a thing papers say unless they give evidence.

Ice i thought that was one of the few things we agreed on 😀 that papers always talk *****.

      (Quote)

  46. Kim – maybe the agreement was for him to leave for a bid circa £20m in Jan to stop all that strike carry on. Joes hardly likely to say Cabs can leave for £20m is he?!, imagine the **** he’d get from the fans – and he wouldn’t want to harm the great relationship he has with the fans.

G2 – we aren’t in such a bad place mate, and they are clearly looking to spend and bring in Grenier, so it isn’t quite as bad as you’re making out I think

      (Quote)

  47. SANTII they do talkshite you remember he was supposed to be in Germany doing the deal and was in London was even a photo of him sitting in stands at w/ham they say cameras don’t lie, from what seems Joe tells jabba the price of players etc etc, jabba says yes/no,charnly does the talking/deal,just as well Joe would put anybody off

      (Quote)

  48. french papers are reporting that the total value of deal is 27mil euros of coarse,I think its good deal for a player that wanted to leave, cabaye said he had a agreement with toon that he could leave in Jan window

      (Quote)

  49. Ice there is obviously a team of people working on the transfers together and trying to get deals sorted out but to say Joe had nothing to do with it at all just isn’t true or provable.

Its like fox news up in here with all this misinformation

Doubt we will find out the price of Cabaye until the end off the summer window or ever. It will just hurt us if people know what kind of funds we have.

      (Quote)

  50. Ice – I think that’s an excellent deal for a player wanting away. Plus he could buy his contract out in the summer couldn’t he?!, so doubt we would have got that much for him then.
I think the agreement was a loosely based one like – if a big enough bid comes in for you then we’ll sell.
If there was an agreement I’m sure Cabaye would have had his representatives making the kind of noises Ba had his making don’t you?.

      (Quote)

  51. I’m guessing, just guessing but maybe Joe Kinnear isn’t the driving force behind these deals.

It’s the same with Pardew. I honestly have not seen an improvement in the team that can clearly be put down to Pardew & Carver’s coaching.

You can see the difference at Liverpool & Everton under Rodgers & Martinez.

Pardew & Kinnear add nothing to the club. Last year we struggled & alot of the players were to blame.

Pardew’s fault was he didn’t have the intelligence or the ability to stop the slide. He adds nothing.

Occasionally Pardew & Kinnear might stumble & do something positive but that’s always balanced out by their stupid actions.

      (Quote)

  52. SHARPY I agree on all points mate, money is the name of the game now more so if player wants to leave, the gunners,m/u,spurs,Chelsea,have all lost some of their top players over the last couple of seasons, they are not classed as selling clubs IMO,but when money calls that’s it mate
