Kinnear gets the elbow, but why?

Mike Ashley Joe Kinnear First off let me just say that I’m not complaining about Joe Kinnear being pushed/shoved or voluntarily walking/staggering away from his role as Director of Football at Newcastle United.

Quite the opposite in fact. I’m pleased that the man has gone. Nothing personal Joe but I just thought you had fundamental issues in doing the job you were supposed to be doing. Auf wiedersehen pet and all that.

However it has come as a bolt from the blue so what exactly has gone on behind closed doors for this to be the outcome?

To be honest I doubt we’ll ever find out. Kinnear may well get the ear of a radio station but the buffoon has got so much wrong previously (like player names for a start, oh and also saying no players would leave United shortly before Cabaye left for PSG) you wouldn’t be able to believe a word he said.

Apparently there are no plans to replace Kinnear with another Director of Football so does that now mean that the manager will have more say on transfers? Maybe Graham Carr will be given some more influence rather than feeding targets to Kinnear only for nothing to happen?

Having been critical of Kinnear you have to remember that he was not and is not the exclusive problem at our club however his failure to land a first team player on a permanent deal during his tenure does stick out like a sore thumb.

I don’t know what is going on or why there was this need for sudden change. It’s welcome as it’s a sign something is changing and that perhaps there is someone somewhere in the corridors of power that at least empathises with us.

Then again it could all be a PR stunt and Kinnear could be made to look like the fall guy. For all we know he may not have been given the cash to splash by Ash?

That wouldn’t be a shock, would it?

  2. I love these opportunities to get together and discuss all the brilliant moves Mike is making on behalf of his beloved club. Which club would that be then? Oh yes, us!! The brilliant maneuvers during the windows, the clever hirings and sackings. The tasty pissups on the yacht. In Mike we trust.

  3. So will there be a pissup on the yacht after the brilliant window we just had with a net negative spend? I’m still waiting for my invitation in the mail. 🙂 Ahhh!!! There’s nothing like a net negative spend to shape up the old bank balance.

  4. That is correct Kimtoon lass. Nothing looks better in a trophy cabinet than a business ledger in the black. Beautiful. We can just push all those crusty old trophies out of the way. They’re just gathering dust anyway. 🙁

  5. Kim it could happen here. Just let Ashley sell up, and just to spite us sells to someone incompetent.

  13. Kim at 142, Aye that’s the word, and it sickens me that we ‘ll have no ambition while Ashley’s here, but I was sick at selling Waddle and Beardsley, sick at selling Gazza, at selling Sir Les, at not investing when we got CL spot under SBR, etc, etc, etc… In the absence of ambition, and with negative investment, 6th – 10th every season would at least be a platform from which you might het lucky, and I do think that that’s the achievable target, even with our average ( not great, not rubbish) manager.

    Ambition, would be nice.

      (Quote)

  14. DAVE read it in a couple of sources, think they are putting two and two together because they were going to get him in Jan until the cabaye thing came up,so expect them to come back in summer,I can see where he would fit in now they have mata to float about

  15. @169 of coarse.the club has a lot of ambition its how much can jabba can make out of the club and still hang on to PL,simples

      (Quote)

  16. GTW@169, Yes we have always sold players but they have never been constantly referred to as being under threat of being sold the way Pards does every window. It’s something I never see other managers doing and I can only assume he has orders to do it. Also under the other regimes good or bad the cup was always taken seriously and attempts to get a euro spot always genuine as well, that’s the difference, as I said ambition was there, it’s not now.

      (Quote)

  17. It comes to something when you have players like Cabella openly coming out and saying that Newcastle could be a good stepping stone for him to go on to better things 😳 🙁

  18. Joe got paid for six months work and saved his friend Mike millions of pounds. Ashley probably planned this in advance with Joe but he gets six months money to go into his retirement fund. So there both winners. Ashley gets another 18 million back on his loan and has another crack at the premiership next year. Pardew has no fear of europe and no cup distraction’s so his happy. He will think the fan’s will take the Sunderland match on the chin as usual. I have no idea how long we our stuck with Ashley but he could at least hire a decent manager of football and a decent manager and give them 20 million a year on players and make up the salaries by shifting dead wood. He could show a little more ambition to try and win favour with the fan’s.

  22. Initially I thought it was a good idea not to replace JFK with a new DOF or Chairman. But without one are we missing out on pre-contracts for free transfers in the summer?

      (Quote)

  23. SHARPY17 good question , hope Carr , Pardew and the club secretary are on the case , but that could just be wishful thinking .

      (Quote)

  24. Axel – the likes of Gomis and other players out of contract in the summer can be approached now if I’m not mistaken. Gomis seems to have shown an interest in joining us and would be a good replacement for Shola who we would loose on a free at the end of the season. But with no DoF or Chairman, would Charnley be given such responsibility or is it yet another case of us loosing out on targets and yet another summer of not picking up good players on a free transfer.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe we need to spend – and first team players like Grenier will cost money. But we could certainly improve our squad players with those available on free transfers IMO.

      (Quote)

  25. Agree SHARPY but i somehow dont think Gomis will be coming ,seems his agents are milking it for all they can get .It remains too be seen if Ashley will give Charnley the go ahead ,on the other hand if him and Pardew can open fatboy’s eyes to free transfers then maybe . One thing though , i reckon with all the contracts running down and all the deadwood needing shifted even Ashley must see money needs spent in the summer . Got a feeling Pards is going to get a few new faces in the summer , Ashley wont fancy a new relegation fight next season and i reckon Pards will let him know that will happen without investment .

  26. How in hell is Shola in our team! He is complete ***** and shouldn’t even get into a premier league team! As for Cisse not getting picked ahead of Shola this season is a mystery ? Give Armstrong a chance or persist with Shola but it pisses me off.

      (Quote)

  27. STEM you could ask that question of about 6 or 7 players in the squad Gosling , Obertan and Shola baffel me as too why they are still here and can anyone explain why the hell we ever signed Amilfitano ?

  28. Nowt to say, is there? Expecting a tough game at Chelsea, with a hiding a fair possibility, looking to the Spurs game – to at the least give them a real test.

      (Quote)

  29. I’m not sure we’re now capable of giving anybody a real test. This is NUFC after all. Just five weeks ago we were on 33 pts, not even half way through and fans were looking up wondering if we could catch anybody. 4pts from 18 later, Cabaye sold. Typical NUFC.

      (Quote)

  30. Remy getting suspended kills us a lot, like it cost us points when Debuchy got banned. In the next two games we can at least showthst we’re trying to get over Cabaye, playing a solid defensive and counter attack game plan

      (Quote)

  31. If we go with just Shola up front we are royally ******, I would rather see Armstrong start than him. Shola only really becomes effective when he partners someone but with Remy still out it’s not an option . Does Pards put De Jong on with Shola, very much doubt it tbh and not sure it would be entirely fair on De Jong to start him either. What ever he goes with it’s gonna be a big ask away to Chelsea and they will be looking to reverse the previous result. Is Goofy fit? he got a goal last time we played them and had a good all round game, we have possibly missed him more than Cabs.

      (Quote)

  32. I’m waiting to see DeJong with Cisse & Remy behind with a Tiote & Anita holding with a free creator. Would have been Cabaye now HBA, Marveaux or Sissoko.

Maybe with people missing Gouffran and HBA behind DeJong with Sissoko in the 3 midfielders.

      (Quote)

  33. No need to be depressed.

With or without cabaye we still have a team capable of giving anyone a tough game.

We also have a manager who given enough time & might be able to get us something out of the game perhaps even a win!

Hopefully we’ll see Marveaux, Cisse, Gouffran etc all start.

I also want to see Mbiwa alongside Williamson. It’s a better partnership than Colo & Williamson so i’m not sure how STaylor gets in ahead of Mbiwa.

Realistically we will see some transfers coming in during the summer & i would expect them to kmprove the squad.

Also Mike Ashley & Alan Pardew will not outlast as part of the club. I will (hopefully) still be here when they are gone.

‘they’re just custodians who are in for a few years. It might be five, ten or six years, but Newcastle will go on after Mike Ashley.’

      (Quote)

  34. I’m not actually sure who’s injured & who’s available.

Does anybody have a link or able to confirm who is defijitely out?

      (Quote)

  35. Our most successful game plan and formations this season have rested upon a solid base to midfield, Remy’s pace to keep the defence honest, hard covering work from Gouff and Sissoko and Cabaye’s ability to retain possession and turn defence into attack with a killer pass. Losing Cabaye is bad enough, but ok with all of the other parts in place. The Chelsea game takes Cabaye and Remy out of that spine and looks like it will see no Tiote either. Not looking forward to it. Agree with Prem, Remy and De Jong could be interesting in a few games time.

      (Quote)

  36. Prem , Aye that could work, do you know if Cisse and Goofy fit?

KK, I am puzzled why Saylor is ahead of Mbiwa tbh, the guy is an international and has shown he’s good enough so I really don’t get it.

      (Quote)

  37. I think it was Munich Mag who has seen a lot of De Jong who said he could see Cisse and De Jong working.

Shola is not as bad as some on here think.

I agree he’s not good enough for us (same as Pardew, Ashley, Obertan etc).

However, he is still a footballer & he is long due a good performance with a goal or two.

Maybe i’m deluding myself but i can’t go into a fixture and believe we’ll see a poor performance even though it’s probably the most likely outcome.

Don’t worry about what to expect. Just believe we’ll do well & you’ll feel much more chirpy before the game!
