Game On! Chelsea v Newcastle

Game on at Chelsea!
Game on at Chelsea!
Hello all and welcome to this ‘Game On’ article which will take us through our tussle at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

You may have noticed that there is no match preview for this game. There are two reasons for that, the main one being that my lad spilt something on my laptop and now half of the keys won’t work so I’m reduced to writing on my phone which is tricky to say the least.

Anyway hopefully it will only be a short term issue until I can get it fixed or replaced. Speaking of short term issues, our lack of available players will also hopefully be a short term issue. We’re missing a few for this one but you’ll be able to see the official team news at the bottom of this article.

The game itself is not being shown live here in the UK but it is being broadcast across the globe so picking up a stream shouldn’t be too difficult. If you do find a particularly decent stream then please share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

After the derby defeat last weekend the only way to bounce back is with a win but at Stamford Bridge that won’t be easy so perhaps we should be looking for a vastly improved performance instead?

Howay the lads!

  1. Kim – I believe so. Anyway it’s not physical fitness I’m bothered about ( and up til xmas fitness wasn’t an issue at all) it’s mental and mostly the result of Pardewing!

How many games do we have to lose before Ashley sacks him?

  2. Anyone on here who doesn’t want a new owner for fear of him being worse than Ashley are barmy! How can to get any worse than this toss pot? But more to the point, how can you live your life not doing anything for fear of it being worse than the status quo? Thinking like that leads us to a life of mediocrity and I for one ain’t settling for that!

I’m not targeting Premandup as he makes valid points a great deal of the time, but that is what he has preached since the anti Ashley craic began.

I say **** off Ashley, we’ll take the risk. If it works out for the worse then we will hammer the next owner as well. That’s how you improve long term.

With those fixtures we should definately get closer to the three teams directly above us. I would kill to see Ashleys face if we nabbed a europea league spot…

  5. How many more years do we put up with broken promises whilst watching long periods of **** performances following the sale of our best players with no quality lined up as a replacement?

I’ve had enough of it and agree with Troy. If somebody came along with the cash to get rid of Ashley, I’d like to see the club in new hands. Yes he has cleared some debt, but he has bored us to tears for far to long now with ***** football and ***** transfer windows – including a relegation and consecutive 3-0 losses at home to Sunderand. Disgraceful. Pleaase somebody come along and get the fecker out of our club!

We will finish strong and be in a strong position for a transition period. With a few good signings in the summer. Ready for the Europa league.

  7. Georgio @526 I disagree , I think fitness issues have been on going for some time now. I don’t think just because we were collecting points up to xmas means we are fit, plenty of bloggers have been moaning about the level of performance and fitness even when we’ve won. Maybe it is all in the mind, that’s possible, with an owner like ours it’s enough to sap anyone’s energy levels. 🙁 There’s a line in godfather 3 where Cardinal Lamberto say’s to micheal corleoni as he has a sugar low attack , ” The mind suffers and the body cry’s out ” never a truer word spoken.

  8. Shamrock I can’t stand Mike Ashley running this club. He is only intrested in free sponsorship for sports direct. I couldn’t give a **** about sports direct. All I want is some decent football and some ambition from our owner. I’m getting fed up of his penny pinching so we lose out on a great player. I’m fed up of us selling our best players and not getting replacements. I’m bored of Pardew’s 85% defensive ratio every game and getting lucky on the counter attack. Is that the only style Pardew knows ?

Ha ha what you been smoking 😕 Considering you were adamant we’d sign a player last window forgive me if I don’t believe your forecast of impending glory.

The debt has increased since he took over. It’s only now owed to Ashley instead of the banks.

The interest rates to the bank would be nowhere near what he’s cost us by getting us relegated.

The original loan was £100m. It now stands at £129m!!!

      (Quote)

  11. I would rather now that he uses the surplus cash from revenue and transfers to pay his loan back.

He can then put us up for sale for the price he paid £134m.

We might get an interested party then. The trouble is, at the moment, he would want £134m plus £129m.

      (Quote)

  12. If only some company out there liked the ideal of global advertising. 🙄 we could have paid a bit back to his loan.. ah well I suppose we’ll just have to stick with SD Ads if nobody else is interested. 👿

      (Quote)

  13. I’d be quite happy to lose Krul, Tiote, Cisse, Barfa, Debs..keep Shola 😀 ..

There’s a good 45mil to give to Mike for his interest-free loan..

Saying that, we’ll probably lose them in the summer anyway, spend nowt and still owe him 134mil 🙄

      (Quote)

  14. Troy@542, Totally agree, If flogging a couple more purples and the transfer cash sitting in the bank went towards his debt and got us closer to getting shot it’s a sacrifice I would gladly make.

Totally agree. I would happily sell, HBA, Cisse, Tiote, Cabaye, Sissoko and Colo and give the fat **** his money back so he would **** off. I’d be happy to suffer the consequence of relegation provided it meant he sold up.

I thought JJ was bad saying he wanted to lose to get Pardew sacked.

Lets hope you never get your wish and Ashley is around for years to come….

  17. Santii – Why? We might as well be in the Championship if it’s our ambition to win nothing! I’d be happy with that if he ****** off. We wouldn’t be in the Fizzy for long if we had a decent owner.

  18. @533

    Your opinion

I personally dont see this hopelessly **** team that we have apparantly turned into since Cabaye left. A month ago people would have fancied us to win all but the last two away games. When we get some players back we will pick up again

      (Quote)

  19. Troy.

Sorry I’m only getting on the site occasionally today. Won’t be around at all tomorrow I think.

I don’t see it as black and white pro Ashley anti Ashley. In terms of his ownership of the clubs I agree that he has made some outstanding gaffes. Although I’m not sure we would come up with the same lists.

However, despite the fact that he clearly no longer sees that club as a place he can go to enjoy his football, I don’t buy into the “he only wants to shaft the fans” idea. Nor do I buy into the “Asset stripping” theory.

I don’t see his time with the club as a disaster. If it were we would be in league one, as other clubs with bad owners have sunk to. It could also have turned out a lot better.

If we want to progress we will need to take the risk and hope that the next owner is prepared to make the investment needed to achieve that. And given that Ashley will decide who he is selling to lets hope he some integrity left.

That I express caution merely shows that I don’t regard his ownership as as bad as many of the owners that have destroyed clubs elsewhere.

“However, despite the fact that he clearly no longer sees that club as a place he can go to enjoy his football”

Give me a break! Maybe if he invested a bit of the clubs money on players instead of selling them he’d enjoy it more. He wants to try being a fucking fan! Does he think we enjoy watching them the club fall apart?

      (Quote)

  21. A month ago the team had hope of pushing on, it had momentum – and it had Cabaye. Now the club has neither of those things. We will not be going on a good run and qualifying for Europe. You can have your opinion CC.

      (Quote)

  22. Regarding Faye Downey, Pardew had this to say:
“Faye’s come in to oversee us as a performance director, and we’ve worked harder than we have under my management anywhere. We’re really pushing the boundaries here.

“She’s making sure that we do it in the right manner.”

Downey has been working with the United squad since the Magpies returned for pre-season training.

The fitness expert has also worked with French playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa and Argentinian skipper Fabricio Coloccini on an individual basis during the club’s tour of Portugal.
Pardew said: “I’m very pleased with what she’s added so far.

    “It’s for the whole season.”

      (Quote)

  23. @Prem

I’ve never bought into the theory that he will do anything to get at the fans either.

    I also don’t agree he’s been a complete disaster.

What I do believe, which is where we probably differ, as long as he remains at the club then we are slowly going to see a slow decline of popularity with our supporters.

You can only salvage the situation so many times before the fans see through his plans.

It wasn’t long ago when we were relegated by cost cutting. He threw all his toys out the bath in one go, but also the plug and the bath was empty in no time.

He had to lower the season ticket prices as we were averaging 44k.

10% of fans haven’t renewed for next season. So we are back again to disillusioned fans.

He can’t keep running the club the way he is otherwise we will be on par with the Mackems.

Unlike you, I see no benefit now, having Ashley in charge for the future. I would rather he left and we take the risk on a new owner.

From reading your opinions above and in the past, you would rather stick with the status quo unless someone with credibility popped up to take over.

I don’t believe this will happen in the near future as I believe Ashley would want to redeem all his commitments, in excess of £260m.

I just wish the ******* would start and pay back his loan and sell for £134m.

Regulations have tightened and new owners have to reach certain standards before taking over a club.

I would therefore take that risk.

      (Quote)

  24. I’m don’t think he has been a disaster, and I think you may well be right. With many fans the situation has deteriorated to the point that whatever happens they want him gone. One poster was wishing him dead on here the other day, wanting his helicopter to crash.

On that basis it may well be time to take the risk and move on. I just hope that in a few years time we are not looking back at the moderate success we have had with Ashley and Pardew with rose tinted spectacles coz we’ve seen a lot worse than this, and other clubs have had far worse owners.

      (Quote)

  25. Georgio-As I understood it, Downey was appointed as a consultant? She would have worked with the squad in the summer and presumably set up training schedules based upon their performances and what we decided was expected of them. I would assume our coaches on the ground are carrying out those orders but perhaps not.

As a consultant she will still be….consulted on our level of performance. I’m thinking it’s an annual fee based upon an agreed amount of time she will spend with us, She still retweets our stuff to my knowledge, I highly doubt she’d bother if it was a two week stint.

Kim-for me we need more coaches, or at least a high quality technical coach. But if Ashley had ever intended to grow our players from within he would have invested in his coaching structure years ago, and he hasn’t. I’m not sure Jonas fell out with Pardew with it, he just said the players thought it was too easy or something didn’t he?

      (Quote)

  26. Ashley’s such a co*k.

Sorted out our finance, a self sufficient club. Buyin players cheap to sell 1 or 2 to keep us ticking but he fails to invest while the goings good.

It could of been so different. 🙄

If we did get a new owner I’d hope he could run it similar to Ashley but also show a bit more ambition, its only a fine line but mike fails to apprehend this..

      (Quote)

  27. Newkie , I was reading the other day that surprisingly Pards and Jonas never got along well, quite a shock considering his was always one of the first names on the sheet under Pards.

      (Quote)

  28. Kim-where/who was saying that? That’s quite surprising as like you say they both seemed to have each others back, I can imagine Jonas might be a bit of a “Joker” rather than as professional as some of our others who might act a bit more “professionally” like Cabaye or Colo but seems tough to see that as a reason as to why they didn’t get on.

      (Quote)

  29. Mark I agree, the idea of being self sufficient and not getting into heavy debt is an admirable one and as you say in principle makes total sense . However the failure to see the bigger picture as in when we made 5th for instance is odd, for that little bit more investment outlay we could possibly of kicked on and broke into top 4 the following season or at the very least coped better with Europa and possibly won the thing. The problem with Mike is because he knows he can’t compete with Chelsea, Citeh ,Manure and Arsenal he gives up all together 🙄

      (Quote)

  30. Newkie , Saw it in a couple of different journos tweets the other day ,apparently it’s common Knowledge and would explain Jonas comments about being pushed out of Toon by Pards I suppose .

      (Quote)

  31. There have been about three windows (season after promotion/season after we finished 5th and this January) when with some investment-say 25-30 mil on well researched targets where we could have pushed ourselves into supplanting Everton at the least. The first one maybe you can ignore, we hadn’t sold Carroll and still had a ridiculous wage bill paying for ***** like Xisco. But this Jan has just tipped it for me, it really takes the ****. I will roll the dice and take a new owner, half of it is just because i am bored of talking about Ashley and Pardew day after day year after year.

      (Quote)

  32. Aye Kim. So close yet so far away 🙄 It make you wonder why he was bothered in the first place. It certainly adds more substance to the theory of global advertising for SD + the free Ads around st James fuels the rumour even more.

I reckon we could of broke into the top 4 eventually. we reached 5th. A few decent players and a heavier squad could of had us competing in the league, Europe and the cups..

      (Quote)

  33. Kim-there doesn’t seem to be a lot in that though ““There were no rows with Alan Pardew or anything like that. He just said I needed to leave and that was that”

I highly doubt they were ever at each others throats or ever really got upset otherwise it would have told earlier on. Obviously I can’t say for sure but I’m a bit skeptical of the press and their stories. Pardew shouldn’t be mates with his players anyway, he should be their boss, but if Jonas wasn’t his cup of tea I think we’d have known from the start.

      (Quote)

  34. Something to ponder:

Come June 1st Shola will have finally left, Remy will go back to QPR and LDJ will return to BMG and we are likely to only have one recognised striker at the club, and he can’t even get in the team. That means to just stand still (that means not improve to some on here) we need to purchase 3 strikers. We will also likely lose Colo as I see him heading home.

So that’s 3 strikers and a centre half/captain that will likely need replaced, let alone any other departures like Marvauex, Obertan (hardly a loss but a body at least), Vuckic and Tavernier. How much will this cost to replace them? It’s just a ridiculous situation that the regime have left us in. Pardew keeps talking about a big job in summer – FFS how gullible is he? Does he really think Jabba will allow him the tools to rebuild?

    Another thing to ponder:

Since Jabba bought the club we have been £45m in the black. Add to that the £20m we recouped for Cabaye, the ‘record’ shirt sponsorship of £10m per year and the £25m extra TV money from Sky and it adds up to £100m!!! Where is this money?

How long do we need to keep bending over and getting shafted from this man?

      (Quote)

  35. KIM@568 it just goes to show that pardew is no better than jabba it just abloody front he puts on tothe fans, mans a fifty faced arsehole 👿

      (Quote)

  36. BB – Totally irrelevant. It would probably add an extra £10m a year on the wage bill. But that’s well covered by the yearly revenue from WONGA, plus the increases in revenue from finishing higher up the league oh and maybe we could even dream of extra commercial revenue from a high profile summer… 🙂 😯

      (Quote)

  37. Troy I too would take the chance that any owner would be better than the one we have, because as it is we have no ambition what so ever, with no sign of any change IMO we are always just around the corner from another fuk up with Jabba.

Stu I think Strolla will get an extension so we wont have to replace him or his goals 😆

      (Quote)

  38. Newcastle haven’t spent a single penny of last years money, let alone this new t.v deal coming up. We pay wages that’s it ? Even i’m confused why the debts not going down ? NUFC is a limited company so you can look at the accounts for 4.99 which I wont do but maybe his selling up ? No other explanation

      (Quote)

  39. If you think about 200 million for a club our size and has a 50,000 seater stadium and debt free isn’t a bad deal for a new buyer ? I know Ashley has took the rest.

      (Quote)

  40. So we’re not even going to replace Willie Donachie then? So much for bringing some fresh blood in. Strange. Can we not even afford a coach?

      (Quote)

  41. Who is the heart of the team now? I would suspect Tiote, Krul, and possibly Shola try to keep things cool in the dressing room. There could be a spectacular clearout come summer. If so it could be the time Ashley decides to go for it and sell after putting a lot of transfer cash and the TV money in his pocket.

      (Quote)

  42. If the rumours are true we could be the Red Bull Wankers next season with all red kit. Decent if we played in Australia I suppose (sniff). 😆 Just kidding Aussie.

      (Quote)

  43. I hope Ashley comes to our next 2 home games and gets the royal treatment. Let him know what we think of him. Possibly speed up his decision to sell up. Time to clear out the trash at the top.

      (Quote)

  44. Or how about the Ashley Wankers? We may as well go all the way. Rename the team for the beloved owner. 👿

      (Quote)

  45. Geordietwo – Rumour has it that Ashley’s waiting for his new helicopter to arrive. His usual one can’t take the weight of the big, fat, horrible, slabbering, ugly ****! 😯

      (Quote)

  46. Looking back at some of our very promising youngsters or young signings: Vuckic – injured repeatedly, play gets more and more erratic and poor, seems finished; Gosling – injured repeatedly, see above; Haidara – injured, now seems out of favour, trying to sell him?; Bigirimana – seems to not be in favour now either, since we can’t win a cup game gets no playing time; Remi Streete – has he progressed, it seems Donachie doesn’t think so, his contract finishes this June. What to do with all these players?

      (Quote)

  47. Are there any helicopters big enough then Stuart mate? Maybe one of those Sikorsky heavy lift jobs? I think he should go in for something American, like a C-FA. You can get 2 tanks into one of those. That might just do it.

      (Quote)

  48. G2, Bigi is the one that shocks me , apprentice of the year now mr invisible so far as Pards is concerned.

      (Quote)

  49. I’m very surprised by that as well Kimtoon @594. I think Pardew is desperate to show the supporters we can finish in the top 10 so he is only playing senior players with the most experience. If we don’t trim the dead wood in the summer it will be a huge problem though because we have nothing on the bench if we get a couple of injuries. No point having players like Obertan hanging about that I can see.

      (Quote)

  50. He thinking of a Chinook but he’s still worried about supporters tearing it apart. Because he’s obviously not safe watching the games…

    Perfect solution

      (Quote)

  52. Ice, Yeah he is going to need Papiss now, well until Remy is back then no doubt Cisse will be dropped again. The lad needs to score a bloody hat trick to have half a chance of keeping his place, after all he has Remy, De Jong and Shola ahead of him now by the looks of it.
