Vote: Does Alan Pardew deserve the boot for losing his head?

The scene from yesterday
The scene from yesterday
You may not have noticed (haha) but there is a bit of storm brewing following on from events at the KC Stadium yesterday.

I don’t think anyone is saying that Alan Pardew wasn’t silly with his actions yesterday and should have controlled himself in a fashion more befitting of a Premier League manager. He’s even said that himself in the wake of the event.

However some news outlets are suggesting that Pardew could well face the sack. The words “gross misconduct” have been mentioned which generally spell the end of any employment contract and would give the hierarchy a way of disposing of Pardew without paying out a load of compensation. United had remained quiet on the matter until a statement released late last night revealed that they’d handed out a £100,000 fine and gave Pardew a formal warning. It seems he is safe, but what are the opinions of you guys? Should he have kept his job or should he be facing the axe?

My own opinion is that if people really do want to see Alan Pardew sacked for a spur of the moment reaction, then what happens next and how far do you take it? Should we have sacked Loic Remy after his headbutt at Norwich? If not, why is it any different?

I made a point somewhere in the comments yesterday about people being a tad hypocritical about all this by condemning Alan Pardew to hell. I mean we’ve hardly been staffed with angels in recent years. Jonathan Woodgate was convicted of affray, Joey Barton, well, is Joey Barton, Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer tried to thump seven bells out of each other on the pitch. Even Alan Shearer did the odd silly thing on the pitch. None of them were sacked.

The point is that it is easy to act as judge, jury and executioner when you aren’t in the moment. Millions have seen what happened as it will be broadcast worldwide, but none us, even some of the players on the pitch let alone fans in the stand will know if there was a real trigger point to start with.

Not that it’s a justifiable excuse, there is none. Pardew will be punished by the FA and will probably have the book thrown at him. And quite right too. However this ‘mock shock’ a lot of fans, journalists and onlookers are displaying and this moral crusade that appears to be gathering pace is, to be frank, a load of bollocks.

He did wrong, he’s admitted he was in the wrong, he lost his head and will accept any punishment. I just think that calling for him to be sacked because of this is one punishment too far but what do you think? Have a vote below.

  1. G2 did you see the link @571 about Laizo, would be nice to see SJP like for a few games and stick it up jabba mate

  2. I didn’t see it til you just pointed it out ice mate. Those supporters have plums. Nice to see. Whether we would see it happen will depend on the coming summer I would think. If Ashley is positive with transfers and gets a few decent players in it should calm things down. If he just tries to sneak through with minimum spending anything could happen next season.

  3. How does anyone think they are going to get away with stealing 18M in taxes? The man must be bonkers.

  4. Icedog, my mam and dad used to go to the wrestling at St James’ Hall…

Btw Ulli Hoeness isn’t the owner of FC Bayern, he’s just the chief honcho there mate. It’s funny watching him get battered by the German footballing media. Over the last few years there have been a spate of cases where bank employees have sold CD’s to German local tax authorities with the names of Germans who are stashing money in Switzerland. Ulli Hoeness got captured a few years back, and the initial claim was around 3-4 mill in taxes. Today he came out and claimed there was a small mistake, and we’re actually talking about 15 mill… Flipping heck 🙄 🙄

      (Quote)

  5. Only 15M then Munich mate? 😆 Such a minor amount. I’m sure he’s counting on the authorities just letting it go then? 😆

      (Quote)

  6. G2, the bloke has got so much edge it’s unbelievable. He’s going to do porridge for this I reckon…

Boris Becker got captured for 2 mill a few years ago…

  7. And didn’t Stefanie Graf’s dad get nicked as well Munich mate? I seem to remember that from a few years ago.

  8. Are any of these rich freaks paying their taxes properly? It’s happening all over the world. 👿

  9. Meylor actually wanted a dance with Pards and was cruelly rejected. He’s still feeling hurt. And now he knows about the man love thing between Pardew and Mourinho. It’s all too much for him.

      (Quote)

  10. G2, aye Steffie Graf’s dad was also up to bad stuff…

Instead of farting round with taxing the little man, they should concentrate on the big earners…a much better use of resources if you ask me… The system is there to be manipulated, though if you have nowt you can’t really stash much away !!

  11. Happy birthday Troy.
Went to St James Hall a few times to watch the wrestling.
On match days you could come out of the Gallowgate end and walk across the road into St James Hall.. It was directly opposite where Nine and the NUFC shop are now.

  14. Ice@595, Sorry mate was helping Lew take his bath. Sorry to hear she is still below par, is she in hospital or at home, only I know in hospital they can pop a little suction tube down to clear some mucus for her like. Ireally hope she picks up, what a rotten start for her.

Ice &MM , that’s a lot of back taxes that 😯 What is it with the rich wanting to screw out that little bit more, greedy feckers. I have been banging on about our governments obsession with so called ‘benefit cheats’ and what they cost the country, if you do the research, it’s actually a tiny % that’s lost ,the real loss income wise to our country and I suspect all others is the rich and wealthy fiddling their taxes, from tycoons to celebrities to sportsman to MP’s ,they’re all at it. 👿 They look down on the poor from their ivory towers taking the moral high ground when they are the lowest of the low. And don’t get started on all the dirty Russian money getting laundered by the Oligarchs buying up all and sundry over here ,that’s another thing our government is happy to turn a blind eye to, corruption abounds in every corridor of power it seems. Rant over.

  21. anyone else seen the details of this Neymar deal when he signed for Barca. ❓
In an unprecedented move, Bartomeu – a close ally and friend of Rosell who was vice president at the time of the signing – went further, explaining exactly where all the money had gone.

There was £33m for the player’s father’s company N&N, which owned the majority of Neymar’s economic rights.

    Santos got £14m.

But there was also an £8m signing on fee, a £6m fee for taking an option on future Santos players, £2m in agents fees (also paid to Neymar’s father) and a further £2m to Neymar’s charitable foundation in Brazil.

The club also revealed that Neymar was being paid £9m a year in wages.

    The numbers are mind boggling.

  22. Ice , your wife is a diamond mate ,takes very special folk to do that job, care without judgement ,few have that quality, I know I see it regularly with the lad, though he’s not aggressive , just big and heavy so trips/tips me over some times 😆 ,well he is 6’3 to my 5’5 🙄

      (Quote)

  23. Well I see Remy has said he will not sign for the toon in the summer,so now we know I never thought he would anyway

      (Quote)

  24. Ice

Ashley will be relieved by that news.
It means he doesn’t have to tempt him with big wages.

He’ll just tell the fans that he wanted to pay the earth but Remy wanted to play for a top 5 euro club.

      (Quote)

  25. Still not impossible he’ll sign up. He clearly enjoys it at the Toon so maybe another season? Top 4-5 in Europe he said. That doesn’t include Arsenal or ManU. If he goes it means we have to sign at least 2 top strikers. Ashley does his sums.

      (Quote)

  26. Hardly a surprise although the papers have taken creative license with his quotes, Money was alway going to be the deciding factor; Anyone with his ability who would join QPR is hardly hiding his colours.

Good luck to him though hes paid us back for last january about ten times over this season, His scoring ratio here has been the best of his career so he probably is wise to get out before Pardew coaches the skill out of him 😆

      (Quote)

  27. Ice – at least the kid is being honest and like you say, we can now make other plans.
I think Saido Mane is maybe being lined up as an alternative, but I’m still a fan of Abel Henandez personally.

I hope we get a good look at Luuk De Jong over the remaining games. I’ve been impressed with his link up play so far but would like to see him get some goals while he’s here as well like

      (Quote)

  28. Our play improved infinitely against Villa when De Jong came on and we pumped Hull when he played. He may not be a 20+ a season guy but he is effective.

We’ve kept Shola for this same reason so why not a guy who can move around against teams other than Sunderland when doing the same job too?

      (Quote)

  29. Funky – I agree mate, but I’d want him to chip in with a lot more goals than Shola has. I’d like to see him get around 5 goals during his loan stint with us.
If we do end up buying De Jong, then I hope we buy a couple of goal scorers – Finnbogason, Vossen, Henandez type CFs rather than Gomis.

I read an report linking us with Danny Welbeck yesterday as well 😯

      (Quote)

  30. Funky – I agree mate. I think De Jong can play in a strike pair or as a lone forward and would give us good options. It would depend who AP brings in as well though.
There was a story yesterday saying we and Everton are interested in Welbeck 😯 probably paper talk tho

      (Quote)

  31. Pardew got a 7 match ban and £60k fine.

@NUFC: The first three matches imposed are a stadium ban with the remaining four a touchline ban. The suspension begins with immediate effect #NUFC

      (Quote)

  32. Sharpy,

I’ve read that Gomis is close to signing for Inter Milan so I’d expect that’s why we loaned De Jong, so he can get used to (what will be left of) our squad and if he scores no goals, we can try and get him cheaper.

      (Quote)

  33. 3hrs im surprised I thought they would hace gave him atleast 10 games, not that I think he deserved it but more that they would try to make an example of him.

      (Quote)

  34. Don’t think Pardew’s absence will affect our play at all. I see no impact from having him on the sideline. The news about Remy isn’t exactly a surprise. He’s been saying it for months now. We will need a finisher or next season will be very difficult. Clean house in the summer. Sell Cisse, release Shola, sign De Jong but get him an excellent partner. All obvious to anyone except our owner I’m sure.

      (Quote)

  35. 7 matches is less then i thought they would give him to be honest, I expected him to be banned until next season

      (Quote)

  36. Sharpy – Welbeck? He’s as ordinary as Henderson and Cleverly. Definitely don’t want him. For a start we need a goalscorer.

      (Quote)

  37. Does Santon start against Fulham? I would suspect not. What about Cisse? Hasn’t Pardew said he has to prove himself to the end of the season? How does he do that if he doesn’t play? And if he does play but is hopeless? It’s a real mess with him now. If he looks hopeless whenever he plays what will he be worth to sell? I can’t remember such a complete turnaround with a player. From world class to hopeless in 2 seasons. Amazing.

  38. I like the idea of wheeling Pards out to the touchline kitted out like Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs. One of those nice facemasks as well. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  39. “a **** once tried to push me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.”

      (Quote)

  40. Torres, Jelavic, Cisse, Carroll.

I think it’s clear you should avoid buying strikers in January.

      (Quote)

  41. No really, I think strapping Pards to one of those wheely things with a facemask on might be excellent for our player morale. Just standing there, propped up, trying to get at his pen and notepad. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  42. Just think how much more effective Pards will be if he can’t speak. The team should improve by leaps and bounds.

      (Quote)

  43. Well Pards got off pretty lightly there, thought they would throw the book at him. The two total fines of £160,000 got to sting a bit though 😉

Re- Remy, not that surprised he won’t be staying tbh, would of been nice as he looks like linking up well with De Jong but I can’t hold it against him as he has repaid us with plenty of commitment and goals to be fair. Good luck to him where ever he ends up.

      (Quote)

  44. Mike SmallBerries. His thoughts are so far above us we can only imagine it. Smiling, fondling his berries, deciding how much money not to spend in the summer. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  45. Mike to himself while massaging his berries “Hmmm, I think I won’t spend 30M quid this summer. That will **** that nasty lot off.”

      (Quote)

  46. I’m quite concerned about the general lack of respect being shown for Mike SmallBerries on here. It’s disturbing. This is the man who saved us from Freddy. This is the man who brought back Kevin Keegan. This is the man who flaunted his moobs for us. Come on now mates. Settle down and show some respect. Harrumph!

      (Quote)

  47. I love it when we come to a window and Pards says “we’re doing really well. We’re a mid table team, right where we want to be. Mike is going to support me completely this summer. The helicopter is ready, the agents have all been notified that we don’t like paying their fees and the players we want all know we like low wages. It’s looking good.”

      (Quote)

  48. That Remy interview has been terribly translated. He diddnt say anything like he won’t be signing for us. The fact there was a Newcastle united representative at the interview says it all. He said he wants to play for one of European top clubs in the future or a very big club. He also said he loves it at Newcastle. So there is still a chance he will sign.

      (Quote)

  49. No wonder we’re not scoring from corners if our manager doesn’t even know how to put his head through something 😀 . But really its been widely blown out of proportion by the media, should he be punished? Yes. Should he be banned? For a short period yes, that would be fair, but not a lifetime ban as some have claimed. I believe the FA have acted correctly with the punishment given.
Any who, haven’t commented in a while but it seems that we might have sorted ourselves out on the pitch following Yohan’s departure now. Hopefully we can put the off the field actions behind us by grabbing three points from the London trash that is Fulham (I don’t like them).

      (Quote)

  50. We will look back and be grateful that we have seen Demba Ba, Cisse, Cabaye, Remy, Hatem Ben Arfa and Debuchy all plying there trade at the toon. What a fantastic couple of seasons.

Summer will be a difficult time for the toon, I hope we have some gems lined up, cos we need them..

      (Quote)

  51. of course like your web site but you have to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to inform the truth nevertheless I will surely come again again.
