Newcastle v Manchester United – Premier League match preview

Magpies v Red Devils
Magpies v Red Devils
I’ve been remarkably quiet following the horror show at Southampton last weekend.

That’s probably because what I’d have said about it would have cause great offence, especially if you dislike reading swear words!

It was horrible, toothless and we were played of the park by a Southampton side who took advantage of the fact that we just didn’t turn up. I’m struggling to motivate myself with us having nothing on the line but I don’t expect the same from the players who are paid a lot of money to remain professional and give their all. They failed in that regard last weekend. They failed miserably.

To set the record straight they are going to need to pull something special out of the bag against a Manchester United side who have attracted their own critics this season. That Manchester United side drew with the European Champions in midweek shortly after seeing off Aston Villa 4-1 last weekend. They seem to be gathering momentum and whilst it might be too late for them to rescue their own season it’s still not a good sign for Newcastle.

Newcastle:

Five of the players who played in the 1-0 victory at Old Trafford earlier on in the season will not feature for the return fixture. Yohan Cabaye is now no longer with us after his January move to PSG, Mathieu Debuchy, Loic Remy and Moussa Sissoko are all out while Tim Krul remains sidelined. The whereabouts of Gabriel Obertan are unknown and Sammy Ameobi is also unavailable although Davide Santon could start after completing 45 minutes at St Mary’s last weekend.

Manchester United:

Robin van Persie misses out due to a sprained knee while Rafael and Alexander Buttner are both unlikely to feature due to hamstring complaints.

Previously…

The result earlier in the season means that Newcastle have a chance to do a league double over Manchester United for the first time since 1931. However it is worth pointing out that we’ve won just five games (out of 40) against the Red Devils since the inception of the Premier League.

At St James’ Park we do hold a slight historical advantage in terms of results. The 76 matches played have seen Newcastle win on 31 occasions compared to 28 wins for Manchester United.

However a formidable record at Old Trafford gives Manchester United the upper hand overall. Including the Charity Shield in 1996, FA Cup final in 1999 and FA Cup semi-final in 2005, a total of 156 games have been played between the two clubs. Manchester United have won 71 of those, Newcastle just 41 with 37 draws making up the numbers.

Stats and facts…

Loic Remy has missed the last five games. In that sequence we’ve scored one goal and picked up one win, both if which happened against Crystal Palace.

Wayne Rooney has scored ten goals against Newcastle. Only against Aston Villa has Rooney scored more.

Manchester United have the best away record in the Premier League having picked up 30 points from 48 on offer.

Newcastle have won only four of their last 14 Premier League matches.

Final thought…

As much as I’ve been critical of our levels of motivation recently, I’m not too bothered about that for games like this. For whatever reason we always tend to be able to get ourselves ‘up’ for games like these and if we haven’t got a point to prove after last weekend then we may aswell all get our buckets and spades out now.

However I think the amount of players we have missing will cause us a problem, particularly in attack where we’ve looked impotent without Loic Remy. Sometimes stats lie but our record without him has been poor and that can’t be ignored. Unfortunately I think it will once again cost us in this one.

Howay the lads!

  1. No
    I just used bing translate.
What Djebs9 says, sounds about right tho.
Pardew will be frustrated with Benny, because the stupid tw@t doesn’t have a Scooby how to play to his strengths.
I really like Benny, but it is obvious to me and has been for over a year now that he is as equally frustrated with Pardoom. He has all but given up.
He will do far more at a better organised club.
Once again we have another talented player that has gone backwards under Pardoom.
    👿

  2. BB is right on the money in regards to Benny. Pardew simply does not know how to play to Benny’s strengths. 😯 There is no way that Benny simply doesn’t get the fact that he isn’t a one man team and that he need to work with his team mates around him. Maybe Pardew should simply let Benny go about the game as he sees fit and if that means that he doesn’t pass to his team mates then so be it! 😛

  3. And on Fat Freddy…. at the end of the day the only success that greedy **** bought to the club during his tenure was the substantial increase to his bank account! Sure he had ambition for the club but it doesn’t absolve him of all the mismanagement he had a hand in along the way. I am not saying the club would have gone into receivership under his command but there is no denying he ran it poorly financially. There is “speculate to accumulate” and I agree with that principal to a degree but if you are going to financially bankrupt yourself while doing it, well you better take a step back and reassess you speculative process. 😉

  4. Does anyone fancy taking a punt at the Stoke result on Saturday ❓
Bearing in mind Pardews new formula to get the fans a goal which he has worked on this week 😕
But from that positive gem of inspiration, we have to deduct the fact Marc Hughes has got the potters winning 5 of their last 7 matches. Also he will be looking to get a reaction from their defeat to Chelsea last weekend. And then factor in the revenge for the mauling we gave them at SJP.
I cant see anything other than another defeat. Another BIG one too.
    I’ll go 4-1 this time.
Pardews new formula should get Cisse on the score sheet around about the 89th minute 😯 😛
    Toon Toon

  5. So the rags are saying toon are after Colback, could be right like he’s 24 and on a free just up jabba street

      (Quote)

  6. Morning Kim – there is no ‘if’ 😛
They are toast and they know it.
Not sure about Johnson tho. Nor Colback.
But both would be classed as pardoom type players I guess.
it’s going to be an interesting summer

      (Quote)

  7. Am I reading to much between the lines here but there is a French manager saying he is thinking of leaving his club for a new challage he is being offered

  8. give us more Icedog 😯
    who for example ❓
Please let it be true and to replace the fool
    PLEASE 😛

  9. BB I read of it this morning and bye-pasted the storey only later I thought oh **** is there something there, cannot for the life of me where read it,Ime still going back over things trying to find it again, don’t hold me to it but the OM manager comes to mind,I’ll keep looking

      (Quote)

  10. BB found it,its on golbal gossip, yes it is the OM manager he said he needs to recharge himself somewhere else,oh how I wish it was true pacman is going, better still would be for jabba to feek off

      (Quote)

  11. CC imo the club need to move quick if they want to hold on to a lot of fans the way things are looking at the mo

      (Quote)

  12. Aye mate, They have got the pre season sorted nice and early for a change as we are normally still trying to rush together matches against championship and SPL clubs in june and july.

Lets hope the same goes for players, It would be great to have everything done by pre season and leave the last minute deadline **** to Redknapp and charva Pulis

      (Quote)

  13. Daily mirror are running a poll at the moment asking if Newcastle are right to stick with Pards . At the moment the poll is at – NO 65% and Yes- 35%

      (Quote)

  14. Jack fecking Colback???!!!
A lad who can’t even get a game at relegation likelies Sunderland?!
Is he any better than Gosling or Guthrie who WE let go on a free?.

Aye set the bar high there Charnley! 😉

Also, where the **** has Freddie Sheppard come from?. Why is that fat plank in the papers so much?. Is he really trying to suggest that we had great times with him at the helm now that Ashley is fucking things up so badly?!.

      (Quote)

  15. Kim – we were the entertainers under Sir John Hall and Kevin Keegan. Things at NUFC took a turn for worse under Fat Freddie and Dogleash from what I remember 😉

      (Quote)

  16. Sahrpy – so short sighted to let Guthrie go. He’s way better than Gosling/Colback. His performances when Tiote was out were outstanding and he had a goal in him. See the list of signings has reached 6. It’ll be 600 by July and we’ll sign 2. Pardew out!

      (Quote)

  17. Kim – my lasting memory of Fat Freddie is hiring Dogleash and Sexy Footy man – only to then make a good call in getting Sir Booby to fix things. Just as he was starting to get our great club back on track – Fat Freddie decided to SACK Sir Bob in place of Souness!!. So starts the decline of our club again.
Then, to top it all off, Mr Fat Fred was the one that oversaw the sale of our club to fat piece of cockney **** that currently owns and has zero ambition for our great club.

So no, Freddie isn’t my most favourite person ever to be associated with NUFC.

      (Quote)

  18. I’ve never met anyone who likes him but at least he’ll speak to the media. Now we have Charnley introducing himself via a 1500 word piece written by wor Wendy. Faceless tat going on and on.

      (Quote)

  19. Georgio – I think we were short sighted to allow Guthrie and Simpson go on a free to be honest mate.
I also think we should have kept Leon Best.
Has Anita turned out better than Guthrie – I don’t think so.
I personally liked Simpson and think he could have still been a valuable member of our squad.
Leon Best would be ahead of Shola and De Jong just now. I’m not saying he was the future, but if you’re not gonna replace him, then keep him coz I reckon he was good for at least 10 goals a season. Doesn’t sound much but when was the last time Shola achieved that?.
Answer – he NEVER has in the PL, and only just managed to hit 10 goals in the Championship.

      (Quote)

  20. SHARPY your memory isn’t to good mate’FF had nowt to do with the sale of toon,it was john hall and son that sold it behind FF back while he was in hospital, being only a small share holder he could not stop the sale,he even held on to his small shares for a while but had to cave in to jabba in the end as he had the control of the club, and he made jabba pay through the nose for them, you maybe don’t like FF,but get facts right mate 😉

      (Quote)

  21. So Remy is out of game for Stoke IMO the lad isn’t trying to hard to get back, and who can blame him

      (Quote)

  22. Surprise surprise – Remy doesn’t make it back for the Stoke match.
I just knew Pardass was bullshitting once again.
He really thinks we are a bunch of thick muppets and don’t have a brain cell between us. Wrong again dipshit.
I so hope there is something in this French coach rumour.
    PARDEW OUT

      (Quote)

  23. Ice , Spot on mate, wasn’t he on his death bed with pneumonia when Jabba was badgering him to sell . It’s the same reason he got lumbered with the debt , because he rushed it all through and didn’t take time to check things through properly .

      (Quote)

  24. IMO. Remy will not play for us again , his agents and parent club will not want him risked prior to a big sell and in Remy’s case WC spot. To come back even if only 98% fit would constitute too big a risk to all concerned, They may even of paid Jabba a few quid to keep him sidelined, after all they and he knows we are safe so he isn’t really needed .

      (Quote)

  25. KIM your dead right mate, yes he overspent but it wasn’t all down to him he would have to have the go ahead from the main share holders to spend the cash, the Halls have a lot to answer to as well IMO,but being the spokesman for the club he had to take the wrap end of,crafty sods the Halls too

      (Quote)

  26. Sir John Hall knew he had to sell asap to some up and coming billionaire without a clue. Then along came fatty rolling in lolly from floating his tat shop. Very astute piece of business from SJH. The deal was done and dusted over the weekend. Fatty had never heard of due diligence.
Shepherd wasn’t best pleased but managed to walk away with £35M to tide him over.
Shepherd certainly got the last laugh, when fatty found the hidden £110M debt. 😆
Not so clever now eh fatso.
    We have suffered ever since.

      (Quote)

  27. Ice – he may not have been the driving force of the sale, but he knew about it, and he may have been in Hosp but he was still Chairman during that time. Yeah, you’re right about the fat little **** holding onto his shares until he got a kings ransom for them though.
He was nee victim in it all mate. I don’t believe for a split second that anything was done behind his back. He was well aware of everything that was going on and made more than sure that his fat little nest was well feathered.

      (Quote)

  28. Kim – you may be right but I expect them all to be back for 3 games to prove their WC fitness.

Disagree with Sharpy about Simpson and Best but nowt new there. Anyone absolutely anyone would be better than Shola and De Jog (there’s probably better dogs than him).

What’s Pardew managed to do with Bigi? Haidara too had a good natural game about him but it looks like Pardew’s talked him out of it. Medhi too. Armstrong will be next.

      (Quote)

  29. SHARPY FF came out in the press and TV to say he knew nothing of sale until SJH told him the deal was done I don’t think for one minute he would say that if untrue as SJH would have had him done for libel,as I said the Halls have a lot to answer for,and Ime owr the moon FF screwed the fat git

      (Quote)

  30. Ice – I’m not saying the Halls aren’t to blame either by the way – particularly Douglas who was a right dodgy bar steward IMO. Sir John had his faults too but he was also the driving force behind turning us from a nearly division 3 team (back then) to one of the major teams in the PL.
The reason I and talking about Fat Fred is coz he’s the one in the papers so much at the moment.

      (Quote)

  31. “They may even of paid Jabba a few quid to keep him sidelined, after all they and he knows we are safe so he isn’t really needed .”

A couple of hundred grand sweetener while we slide another place or two down the league and lose £10m aye righto.

Look weve rushed players back too quickly far too many times to remember. If the lad needs another week then they are right to give him that time.

      (Quote)

  32. SHARPY jabba would never sell out to FF because of past dealings, but could be behind a group trying to buy him out,and Fred is stirring people/fans up to sicken jabba hence all this press reports otherwise I don’t understand it,I live in hope

      (Quote)

  33. CC, I think it would take more than a couple of grand sweetener don’t you 😉 , They would have to knock off a fair old whack of the loan fee to protect their investment, I could defo see Jabba go for that like.

      (Quote)

  34. Georgio – how can you disagree about Best and then say anyone would be better than Shola and Jong 😆

Ice – Sheppard never slagged the Halls off from what I remember, but I may be wrong. The sale went through while he was in Hosp but they would have made sure he was alright. I well believe they sold the club, then told him – ‘listen Fred, we didn’t want to worry you while you were bad mate, but there is a cockney with way more money than sense and well, basically we’ve sold the club’ FF ‘WHAT?!’ Halls – ‘aye but divvint worry mate, this fat ****** will buy your share for top whack man!’ ‘Just sit tight and play dumb and you’re quids in mate’.

Or words to that effect. I don’t believe a word that comes out of FFS mouth mate.

      (Quote)

  35. Ice – I don’t need Fat Freddie’s help to hate the bones of Fat Ashley! 😆

The thing for me is that the debt that Freddie and his crew ran up, it probably the cause of Ashleys huge asking price to sell – and what is putting so many potential buyers off

      (Quote)

  36. He will play again when hes fit, Will there be the same level of hysteria if Krul doesnt play tomorrow ??

      (Quote)

  37. Does it really matter if Remy plays for us again or not?.
It’s not like its the difference of 4th or 5th place is it?.
At very best we’ll finish 8th and at very worst we’ll finish 10th!.

The season was over along time ago so play Armstrong and give him a look out.
I stopped giving a **** on the 1st of Feb when it was obvious the club had no ambitious following yet another **** transfer window.

  38. Questions for Mike NoNuts:
    1. Mike it’s clear we have made tremendous progress under your stewardship. We are on track to beat our incredible 16th place finish of last season. What are your projections for next season?
    2. Mike, since you are now suffering from a severe case of nutticus shrivelous is it possible we won’t bring in any top players in the summer? Is it also possible you will hide in the castle and let Pardew give us the usual bollocks?
    3. Mike, were you born stupid in terms of football or did you have to develop your ignorance over the years?

      (Quote)

  39. Answers from Mike NoNuts:
    1. Yes! Oh yes! Finally someone recognizes the tremendous improvements I have brought to the club. The beauty of those SD hoardings! The lies and misdirections over the seasons! The way I brought the gullible back with cheap seat prices. As for next season, yes we will finish above 18th I can say with great pride.
    2. Yes, I am quite concerned about my nutticus shrivelous. I don’t look nearly as good in my sports thong now. My feminine admirers are greatly disappointed. I can’t say too much about the summer plans. Very hush hush. I’m planning a big pissup, errr conference on the yacht this summer with Pards and the board. Very exciting!
    3. Although I was always naturally thick when it came to football I have to admit I have become increasingly dim with the passing years and now am completely satisfied that I know absolutely nothing about the game. I hope that satisfies all my beloved suckers errr supporters out there.

      (Quote)

  40. More comments from Mike:
“Ok I have shriveled nuts! What’s that got to do with the club? I run things my way pissants! That midfielder we had that was quite good, what was his name? Cabbage? Well I got a packet for him so who knows what they’re doing eh? I do. I’m filling me pockets with money from you lot! Hah! Oh by the way please renew your seasons tickets now.”

      (Quote)

  41. Any paranoia and hysteria , though I have to say I don’t feel very hysterical, is a direct result of that devious ***** of an owner pulling all sorts of mad stunts in the past. Any mistrust and reading more than should be into things is down to him .

      (Quote)

  42. I like our chances for a nice 17th place finish next season. Mike is quite slippery you know. He will panic when we have 20 points at the halfway mark and actually peg out in January again for a player or two. Pards will finally be gone and some new idiot will take his place. Beautiful.

      (Quote)

  43. Sell another player like Cabbage? Absolutely! More millions in. Buy somebody on the cheap at 23 or 24 and hope Carr gets it right again? Beautiful. Sell him on at 27 for big money! It’s the way of the future. Oh and stay above 18th of course. That goes without saying.

      (Quote)

  44. It could be a true nightmare Kimtoon. But it might finally finish off Mr. NoNuts. Get him out of the club as quickly as possible. Another summer of lies and stalling would be just about unbearable but we’ll have to deal with it as it comes. The state of the club now is terrible. Mike will panic only when he sees the mess on the field next season.

      (Quote)

  45. CC – It wouldn’t surprise me if Remy was 100% fit and being sidelined on purpose, same with Debuchy. How many times has Ben Arfa been back to France in the last 3 years for mysterious reasons, he’s there more than he’s in Newcastle.

Remys been injured a number of times this season but I can’t recall him ever pulling up or looking in pain, he’s fine one minute then next thing we know there’s an article in the chronicle saying he’s out for a month. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he had it written into his loan contract that he could pick and choose when he plays, like a boxer, chooses his opposition to best show case his talent.

We’re never given any information on any of our players injuries, just that they’re out and they’ll be back when their back. Its happened with Colo a number of times this season as well, we were told hes injured, then we find out he’s tanning himself in Argentina. They lie about everything else so no reason they shouldn’t lie about injuries for whatever reason. Its not as if we’re a professional outfit or anything.

      (Quote)

  46. As Official Blog Hobbit I should caution against being overly pessimistic about next season. I should but I won’t. Everybody panic!!! Ahhhh! We’re doomed! Down with NoNuts!!! And now back to normal programming.

      (Quote)

  47. Well now I’m truly upset. Harrumph! What’s the plan against Stoke mates? No Remy. But Loic, please! Can you not just come on for a few minutes to cheer us up? You know run around a bit and show our other forwards what being a striker is all about? Take Shola under your wing? It’s not too late for him you know. He’s getting another contract extension this summer. Please Loic give him a few tips.

Business genius Mike you fat *****!

Aye that top 10 place is nailed on next season!.

      (Quote)

  49. We wouldn’t normally be so pessimistic G2 especially as we are all deluded fantasists, but the hard learnt lessons dished out by fatty in the previous transfer windows are finally taking their toll and all the optimism, hopes and dreams for a brighter future have been smashed to smithereens.
Troys train is fully stoked and up to speed, most of us are on board. Non stop to mediocrity and beyond.

Surely we should all be over the moon. After all he is bringing another exile back home.

    Its win win 😛
Pardoom will be over the moon. An English footballer for nowt. Sweet.
Straight into the starting 11. Give the lad a purple shirt.
