Changing of the Garde!

To be totally honest I do not know what to believe when it comes to who will be our next manager. On one hand we have Remi Garde who seems to be the odds on favourite at the moment but there are conflicting reports about whether he will start straight away or at the end of the season.

Will he or won't he?
Will he or won’t he?

So there is some media confusion around his appointment. You can’t help but feel that they are clutching at straws due to the secretive way the club goes about its business.

There are also reports that three other candidates that have been interviewed as well. Once again, how true this is, I am not so sure, at least the report is a positive one. We have had a number of managers rule themselves out of the role lately so its nice to hear that a few candidates are interested. Mind you I am glad that the likes of Bruce and Hoddle have ruled themselves out. It was nice of them to do so even though there was a good chance that club was never interested in them in the first place!

Now we have the special one saying that John Carver should get the job after our game against Chelsea. It is is a glowing endorsement, it is not often Jose compliments a manager other than himself! Nothing personal against Carver but I think we need a clean break from the coaching team we have had for the past four years. It’s time for some fresh ideas and coaching .

So if I were to pick from the candidates that we have been linked with, I would be choosing Remi Garde. To me, he feels like a good fit for the players we have. For those who are unaware of his record here it is.

Games played -117

Games won – 60

Games drawn – 26

Games lost – 31

Win percentage 51.28%

Not a bad record in anyone’s language but whether he can translate that kind of success to the premier league is anyones guess.

So as it stands Remi Garde is the one to take us forward but I don’t doubt for a second that we may sign someone else from out of the blue. One thing that the Ashley era has taught us is that nothing is certain until the dotted line has been signed. I just hope we can get that signature sooner rather than later no matter who it may be. Uncertainty around leadership never bodes well no matter what environment you ply your trade in. So hopefully Charnley is working hard behind the scenes to get the deal done. Until then, I guess all we can do is wait and speculate!

  1. There are two type’s of people at this club, those that run **** like Mike Ashley and those that eat **** like the manager and the fan’s.

  2. In defence of our ***** corner and free kick routines….and let’s be honest, they really were *****…. at the end of the day we really seem to be one of the teams who are pretty poor in the air. Just watch us trying to win 50/50 balls both on the ground AND in the air…we really are poor. I think this is a combination of commitment from the players, but at the same time we have developed a standing off system which means we give up the second ball. We have slight players throughout the team, who are quite simply very poor in the air. Willo is 12 foot talland useless, Anita, Colback, Tiote in midfield…howay man… squirts the lot of them…Sissoko can’t jump or head a ball to save his life…and don’t get me started on Cisse and Gouffron winning high balls…

You could have Pirlo on cocaine knocking in corners and free kicks like crazy and wor lot wouldn’t win owt…and that’s not forgetting that a lot of teams have muckle centre halves who take no prisoners. I’m not defending the fact that our dead balls often are *****, when we don’t beat the front man on the edge of the box for example, but I think it goes a lot deeper than that. I would question the tenacity of the toon players and the will to win the ball in the first place….the will to win aint there.
When you know you don’t have the players cut out for the high ball game, then to knock high balls into the box really is mental..and that decision is down to the trainer, be it Pardew (spit) or Carver……(spit) 🙂

  3. agro going on north of the border… the Teddy Bears are revolting against Ashley’s takeover… My mate is keeping me up to speed… my money is on Ashley though 🙄

  4. Kim I too would love a complete change with a quality manager etc but as you say it’s not likely to happen, so we may aswell get behind Carver and hope and pray he grabs the chance of his dream job.

As for ” I just wish they would announce him now so we can get players in .”
I think that is why it will be drawn out untill the end of the window 😉

Have you heard from Richie yet ?

  6. Big Dave, I thought that our first half against Chelsea was a really refreshing change from the Pardew cat and mouse sit back and defend tactic. On a better day we could have perhaps been 1-2 up, but it wasn’t to be. At the end of the day we went for it, and since Carver was in charge at the time he should get the credit, just the same as he well take the stick when the wheels fall off the toon bus. I’ve though for a while now that certain toon players don’t seem able to last the full 96 minutes at the EPL intensity. I appreciated the Carver approach against Chelsea, we’ll see what he comes up with against Southampton. We can only support the caretaker manager, he’s the only one we have at the moment 😆

  7. Big D, good to hear it mate. It’s good when someone else can sneak a few posts in there in between Troy ***** slapping Eric and the rest of the non-believers 😆 😆

Naah, haven’t heard owt from RT yet…

  8. MM, my money is on Ashley as well.He is trying to get it on the cheap but if he really wants it he can just out bid them. The only problem is the SFA but like all governing bodies they will roll over and do SFA about it (look at FIFA ).

I am glad you agree about the set pieces. It is so obvious that every manager has figured it out and yet we still do it. I am not trying to wind up anybody (with the possible exception of Troy) but having someone continue on the same path as Pardew doesn’t make sense. He says he is his own man, but that is talk. He didn’t back it up at Leicester.

Anyway, 5-0 to us tomorrow to seal the job for Carvs.

      (Quote)

  9. Big D: at least I have been able to get Troysta to have a civil and somewhat coherent conversation. Before, most of what he said was woo hoos, reality trains and calling people names.

      (Quote)

  10. Eric, my money is on Ashley too. The bloke is on another planet when it comes to eaking out opportunities. 10 mill on Rangers is pocket money for him…he’ll know the rules inside out and what can and can’t be done. He’s also taking advantage of the chaos amongst the disorganised Rangers fans. Time is on his side at the moment, cos Rangers need money, and he has it. He’ll find a way past any SFA rules….just watch :-).

      (Quote)

  11. Eric … definition of civil – “polite but not friendly : only as polite as a person needs to be in order to not be rude”…

Did you have a hard paper round when you were growing up mate 😆 😆

  12. DAVE I heard from Richie, asked why he had not been on,he said he was fed up with the same **** over and over again his words not mine,so doubt he will be back on,he looks on now and again but nowt changed, shame imo

      (Quote)

  13. MM: I had a paper round to pay for NUFC tickets when I was 12. Almost 40 years ago and I am still feeling the pain – just when I thought I was out..they pull me back in.

I was never a Pardew hater, that was more AndyMac on Worky Ticket’s blog and the Chronicle. Pardew lost me with the Sunderland 0-3 and Liverpool 0-6 though. Every time I took friends to watch a game a bar it would be 4 f@cking nil, Wigan, Spurs, Southampton! I would always be asked – which is your team, the one that sucks, why do you support them again 🙂

  14. Ice I just hope we can get things sorted and try to move on, TBH I was getting pissed of with the Pards **** it was just endless and went on and on , as you know I never wanted Pards or asked for him or thought about him but once he was here I knew that was the level we were detined to have because Jabba wants that type of guy, and still does.
So hopefully the club will come out and tell us that Carver is here to atleast the end of the season so that we can move on and know what is happening, but as I said I think they will string it along so as not to have to buy any new players.

  15. Eric@542 Ah Godfather 3, good but not as good as 1 and 2 which I must of seen a million times, Funny enough just been playing some music to relax Lewis and Cavallaria rusticana intermezzo was the last piece I played. That was the piece when his daughter Mary gets shot on the steps outside the opera house, lovely piece but it has to have the right conductor.

  16. DAVE agree mate, but there will be little change at the toon, jabba will just put another yes man in and keep us mid-table,talk is cheap we won’t get a manager with balls to stand up to him that’s for sure, will not change until jabba ships out can only hope a new guy plays footy we can watch at least 🙂

      (Quote)

  17. Ice, Amen to that mate. Not fussed on transfer fees or big names even just the personal that are capable of putting on a good show and an owner who wants to implement it .

  18. DAVE @546 I doubt many will come back, guys like to put their views freely right or wrong and don’t need to be insulted and rubbished which has been happening again and again its ending up like Workys site imo

  19. Icedog: you shouldn’t reminisce about blogs or NUFC. I thought we would only have 20 points by Christmas and that Pardew would be sacked and more than likely replaced by Moyes.

Luckily, I am not a betting man, so you can probably take my views about Carver in the same vein. I mean, if my record is anything to go on, Carver will be appointed February 3rd (after transfer window closes) and will lead us to 10th before Harry Redknapp gets the job next year.

      (Quote)

  20. OK: this is from Carver today and even beats Pardew on the biggest pile of shyte I have ever heard. He makes excuse after excuse and then says the fan owed HIM a f@cking apology, and he said he would be the first to apologise after a terrible display at Leicester after he picked the f@cking team and played Williamson up front:

“It started badly even before kick off,” said Carver.

“I didn’t have the problem with the fans protesting, but when Tim Krul said to me he was a bit disappointed with the banners being raised before kick-off, that was the only thing that upset me.

“I’ve said many times that I’d be the first to protest – I said it after the cup game at Leicester.

“It was the fact it was before the game had even started – that’s what disappointed me more than anything else. I don’t have a problem with protests when things aren’t right or good, but that’s why I got upset.

“You know what I’m like, I’m not a shrinking violet, am I?

“We had words with each other, but it’s all history now. I’d even forgotten about it. I apologised afterwards, absolutely, and rightly so, but there wasn’t one that came the other way.”

FFS. If he wants to invoke Sir Bobby Robson then he shouldn’t be such a tw@t.

  21. If it’s all gone to rat **** on here, then its a reflection of the whole sorry sack of **** that is NUFC at the moment.
Who are our hero’s at the club ? lol joke
Who do our children aspire to be like ? lol joke
The soul has been ripped out of the club and the fans.
Its no wonder there is so much in fighting amongst fans, when the whole club is such a shambolic mess
Its all very depressing when all we have to talk about is the trouble and strife around the club.
Never any good news or anything to be positive about.

  22. Dear me.

That’s what happens to blogs worldwide. Every club blog is the same. My mate Stardust was a big contributer but people actually move on to different things. Rarely do people stick to a blog for years. I’ve been coming on for approximately 5 or 6 years. It’s still just as healthy. Only different people come and go.

Yes it’s a shame people disappear but new ones arrive.

The comment that people don’t like being criticised for making comments sums up a few on here. They shouldn’t go on blogs full stop.

If there is an issue it’s the lack of threads. Many can’t access the blog via their mobiles when a couple of hundred posts are up.

      (Quote)

  23. Eric – you should put the whole quote up. Not just snippets
“I was trying to do the best for the team, and all I was saying was telling them not to put the banners up there and then.

“Then he came back at me a couple of times, and unfortunately I reacted the wrong way.”

Carver admitted he “feared” the club’s campaign would unravel after the match, but two months later the team was, briefly, fifth in the Premier League after a run of one defeat in eight games.

“I’ve got to be honest, I feared the worst for the season that night,” said Carver.

“It stayed with me for a long time. I do care, and I’d realised I made a mistake.

“I realised how bad we’d been during the game.

“The fans were right to be unhappy with the way we’d played. I made that situation even worse. I’ve got to say going into the Hull game straight after, I did feel uncomfortable for the first time ever when we were doing the warm-up.

“I wasn’t quite sure of the reaction I’d get from people but I have to say it was very good. That surprised me a bit to be honest.

“The fact the fans reacted the way they did certainly helped me and made me stronger and even tougher.”

      (Quote)

  24. Here Troysta since you think I am stalking you. Defend Carvs @556:

    1. He says he apologised to the fan who he went and confronted at Southampton. He forgot to mention he invited him to a fight at the training ground the Monday after.

    2. Oh, but it was Tim Krul’s fault really. That’s what got him worked up, he was defending Timmy.

    3. He said he would have been upset if he was a fan at Leicester. He picked the team and made excuses for 5 fake injuries and a tired (poor lamb) Perez. He played Williamson up front. Had nothing to do with the fans.

    Tw@t.

Oh and the new tv screen.

  27. Beardsley Boots I would like to thank you for saying something positive about the club. Those lights and t.v screen must have cost a fortune. It’s probably the reason we can’t afford any new players or a half descent manager.

  28. I have just watched a Seim de Jong compilation and he looks very good and may be what we are missing. I am trying not to do a Dennis Wise/Xisco but he has real talent. He scores from everywhere unlike Luque who was another allegedly recruited from Youtube.

I am done criticising Carver as I have had my say. Good luck to him and the lads today. I would love to see Dummett replace Williamson but I am not holding my breath. Hopefully we will attack and take the pressure off the centre backs.

There are some positives and hopefully he did learn something from Sir Bobby and forgets everything Pardew said, like it was a four year bad dream.

I’m all for heated debates. I wish others would have their own. It might make people like Stardust return. He left because of the people moaning about others having heated debates. He’s a big loss to the blog imo.

There’s plenty on here who cause problems by moaning at others.

Get on with it and stop being like little housewives.

We need a good game from Sissoko hopefully thru the middle and not on the wing.
