Match Day Banter – Newcastle v Southampton

To say Southampton have been this seasons surprise package is an understatement! After losing so many good players they have barely faltered at all this season and they currently sit in third place after the first 21 games. They also thumped us 4-0 at home and the return match looks like being another tough game. However, our form at home has been good (W5 D3 L1) so I am expecting our lads to put up a spirited fight and try and come away with all three points.

Mags v Saints
Mags v Saints

Apart from the African Cup absentees we have pretty much our usual players to select from with the added bonus of Santon being fit for duty. Whether he is selected or not is another matter but it would be good to see him get some minutes under his belt.  Here is who we have to choose from

Newcastle United: Alnwick, Krul, Coloccini, Dummett, Good, Haidara, Janmaat, Santon, Streete, Williamson, Anita, Bigirimana, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko, Vuckic, Ameobi, Armstrong, Ferreyra, Gouffran, Perez, Riviere.

Southampton do have some injury concerns. Morgan Schneiderlin (thigh) and Victor Wanyama (hamstring) are out and to be honest it is good to see that Wanyama is not going to play. He does a lot of good work in the middle of the park and breaks up a lot of opposition attacks. He won’t be missed as far as I am concerned. Here is who Southampton have to choose from.

Southampton : K Davis, Forster, Gazzaniga, Bertrand, Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett, Cork, S Davis, Isgrove, McQueen, Reed, Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Elia, Long, Pelle.

Based on current form you would have to give this one to Southampton. In the last six games they have a very good record (W4 D1 L1) when you compare that to ours (W1 D1 L4) it seems that we will be up against it. But this is the Premier League and on any given day any team can win. So my prediction is a 2-1 victory and the first three points for John Carver.

Howay the Lads!

  1. Reports in Germany say that Newcastle United are interested in signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga in the January transfer window.

get him now when he’s ****, cheap and injured.

Bit like Spts Direct products, why buy Nike when you can buy Donnay, cheap as chips, no style and starts falling apart within a week. 🙄

  2. Papiss Cisse ponders Shanghai £150,000 a week 😯 Ho Lee Fook 😯 offer from Senegal bench

Monday afternoon saw Senegal beat Ghana in their opening African Nations fixture but Papiss Cisse was watching from the bench, contemplating a reported £150,000 a week offer from Chinese club, Shanghai SIPG.

he’ll obviously leave for that kind of cash.. if he doesnt theres sum ting wong with him 🙄

  3. Another day – another nothing day. No news, not even any speculating any more.

What did Garde mean when he said he couldn’t talk about that? I’m in discussions? Or I’m here on tv business, end of.
If he’s not under consideration he would have just said that’s media speculation or something like that.

Maybe it’s all bollocks and Lineker’s right (and at least half the fans). My guess is Mike’s only criteria is make sure he’s cheap.

  4. I have taken myself off Twitter as I have lost all interest in following the search for a new manager and the transfer window.

I have to say this is the most disinterested in NUFC that I have ever been. Can’t even be bothered to go to the games either which is just ridiculous!

  5. Georgio – Ashley’s only objective is to find the cheapest person available, not the best available. Same with the players. He even fired off the catering staff and employed a separate company to do it all as it was cheaper. Never mind that the pies are all rock hard due to the ovens being of industrial and Nuclear strength! Cheap is good in Ashley’s world.

  6. Stuart79 It ain’t easy being a Newcastle fan, it’s never easy. Ashley has sucked all the passion and life out of the club. If you don’t cut the cancer out ( Ashley ) it eventually kills you. I would even take relegation because it’s a step forward. Less free advertising, hurting Ashley where it really hurts. We may even have to stay down a couple of season’s to really hit him where it hurts.

  7. You could be right, Trigger. It’s at the point now where I really wouldn’t be too bothered if we were actually relegated – it’s that bad! It would hurt Ashley more than it would hurt me that’s for sure.

Lets be honest, what difference would it make to supporters if we were relegated?

  9. Mike is currently in very serious negotiations to sell some of the club memorabilia. We have some of Percy’s old knickers that are raising a lot of interest.

  10. You’re right ice mate I hadn’t realized that. Mike has fallen on hard times. Profits are only up 10%! Shocking. How is a billionaire supposed to get by?

      (Quote)

  11. We’ve only made 3.5M pounds profit so far this January. What kind of window is that? Mike is extremely disappointed. The club is letting him down again.

      (Quote)

  12. If the board can’t get more profit out of the club during windows they’ll just have to be sacked. Does Mike have to do everything? Who can he trust? Harrumph!

      (Quote)

  13. Does anyone have anything to offer for the next rummage sale outside the ground? Mike will be there flogging old sweat bands.

  14. Ashley has made a mockery of the club. I say we make a mocker of Sports Direct. Signs everywhere saying don’t support Mike Ashley, don’t buy Sports Direct tat.

  15. It’s definitely in the works Kimtoon lass. And the hot water in the showers will be metered as well. 🙄

      (Quote)

  16. Stuart79 the only difference it would make to me is I wouldn’t pay 22 pounds a month for sky sports and I wont buy a top with wonga on it so Ashley’s out of luck there. I wont watch a match again until he leaves or go in his tacky shops either.

      (Quote)

  17. I hope Hull stuff us and we get relegated. I don’t want the fat **** here, taking our profits and doing jack ****.

  18. Shepherd bemoaning Ashleys running of our football club, Like Gary Glitter accusing someone of being a perv… 🙄

  19. Kim Mikes planning to sell 127 million in sports direct shares. Owning 55 % of the company. What’s he up to ?

      (Quote)

  20. 127 million a lot of money like but where’s it going on Ranger’s ? Seriously it could wipe out the three bares, King and many other share holders in rangers.

      (Quote)

  21. Let’s be honest, I don’t think Ashley selling some shares in SD will make a huge difference to the way he lives his life and it certainly won’t make any difference to Rangers as he’s already worth £4b.

      (Quote)

  22. I see the Chronicle have got an ‘Exclusive’ story coming up on their site. Assuming it’s about Jabba selling his shares but I’m always hopeful it will be something exciting. God knows we need it.

      (Quote)

  23. You see mates? Mike’s selling shares because he’s desperate for money. The club have let him down by not flogging more players and bringing in some dosh. So sad Mike.

      (Quote)

  24. Plus there’ll be no signings in January even though we’re desparate for a centre back and a striker, as they will get a better deal in the summer – just another season wasted then. Also new coach will be in the summer also.

So although he told us in the last fans forum that we only let Mbiwa leave because we had a replacement lined up he know says we don’t need a defender now even though Taylor is out for the season. How is this the way to run a football club?

      (Quote)

  25. I completely agree. Lee said we spent a lot of money in the summer ? We sold Cabaye, Debuchy and received 4 million of Celtic for Foster. He spent absolutely **** all ( forgive my language ) and gets to pocket 50 million. Honestly my loyalty is being tested to the full. A head coach will have to put up with us not getting a instant replacement for a player, as if we didn’t know that already!!!

      (Quote)

  26. He is a total yes man what’s the point in lying to the fan’s. Everything in that interview was staged in advance by Ashley and Lee.

      (Quote)

  27. They are all yes men….beginning with the bloke who held the interview… the new head coach will be cut from the same cloth…

      (Quote)

  28. We already have 25 player’s out of 25 but we can’t get rid of the ***** player’s to bring in upgrades that would break my fucking heart. Lee Charnley is a total idiot. Seriously he makes Kinnear look intelligent. I hope Ashley dies.

      (Quote)

  29. It’s not a coincidence that we won’t be buying as we probably won’t be selling anyone. Zombie club!

      (Quote)

  30. Once again the Ronnie gill have the opportunity to ask some searching questions of the club, and abjectly fail completely utterly and totally.
    Pointless interview
    pointless even publishing it.
    Utter tripe.

      (Quote)

  31. Yes Stuart, but even if we do manage to offload someone for a profit, there is every likelihood that we wont replace until the summer anyway.

      (Quote)

  32. You guys want the club to communicate, and when they do all you do is put as much negative spin as you can muster on every word. Your dislike of the management at the club is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It is impossible for them to say anything constructive.

      (Quote)

  33. Yeah right Brisvegas
    whatever.
Please highlight ONE constructive comment from that statement for us to be positive about.

      (Quote)

  34. You aren’t interested in being positive so what would be the point. I you were interested then you wouldn’t need anything pointed out.

      (Quote)

  35. Trigger – or where all the money has gone from the improved tv deal
    NOTHING
    **** poor from the chronicle

      (Quote)

  36. Beardsley Boots it’s like the chronicle are afraid there going to get another stadium ban so there sucking up to Ashley and Lee. You’re right about the t.v money as well or wonga also.

      (Quote)

  37. BB: see what I mean? You aren’t interested. You think any opinion that is contrary to yours is a joke.

      (Quote)

  38. The other day the chronicle said there will only be one winner Mike Ashley because his richer than everyone else and there’s nothing the fan’s can do about it.

      (Quote)

  39. wow.no players or new coach this window, but if a good offer comes in for a player we will sell and not replace till the summer.there is not one positive in that statement.

      (Quote)

  40. Well at least we know where we stand. Still as unambitious as ever. No new players and a manager in the summer. Only lie I saw was doing business for the clubs best interest. MA has no interest in NUFC, only his pocket…

      (Quote)

  41. So does that me we will appoint a manager now but he will come in the summer or do we start searching in the summer and hope whoever he is doesn’t go elsewhere instead?
Lol we’ll end up with dean Saunders in August 😆

    I reckon mikes offskis soon

      (Quote)

  42. So when BB asks Bris to give him an example of positivity in the interview he just says what’s the point? In other words he can’t find any.

What some half wits done quite understand is that NUFC fans would love to be positive, but unfortunately there’s not anything to be positive about. What should we do, make stuff up and walk around in cloud cuckoo land thinking it’s all rosy?

      (Quote)

  43. Well, much against my better judgement I’ll give you a few things:

First, is the interview itself. We want some communication – we got it.

We are given an insight into thought processes of management about why it has taken time to get a new head coach; the role of the head coach and DoF are explained.

We are told that there were about 80 applications – a far cry from some bloggers’ assertions that nobody is interested. They are interested in someone’s playing style and philosophy, and their record with young players and in developing players. They want someone who will challenge their own agenda.

That’s a start. No point in going any further as you’ve probably already fixated on comments about timelines and transfers.

      (Quote)

  44. Well, what a crock of ***** that was. 👿 Why no questions about Jonas and chucky leaving reducing us to 23, why no question about the tv money and what it is being used for.

One thing I would of countered on the ” we were not expecting Alan to leave” thing. Did they really have no contingency plan in place should they lose him? What if he just walked out on them with no other job to go to? what if he’d died? what if he did something that meant he’d have to be sacked? Really bad business planning to not have a shortlist drawn up for such an eventuality .
What about the need for a defender which pretty much everyone in football agrees we need ,not just us fans?
Do they not realise how possible it is we may yet be in a relegation battle and a few million now could save many millions later?
What will happen if we get relegated?
So are you saying it’s definitely Carver until the summer or no?
Will mike be taking any more over and above the £18m previously stated this year?

We learnt sod all other than what we all suspected today. No probing questions at all , joke of an interview, do it properly or not at all.

      (Quote)

  45. They are interested in someone’s playing style and philosophy 😆
So why did they appoint Pardew and weren’t prepared to sack him but were shocked he left. surely they weren’t content with his style and philosophy 😯

There was nothing in the interview we didnt already expect, probably only spoke because JC publicly asked for some clarity.
STOP GOING & STOP BUYING SD *****. I bought some trainers online from JD Sports earlier. It felt gooooood…

      (Quote)

  46. Bris , but that’s the thing mate, they say they can challenge them but then say they have no final say, so what’s the point in challenging.
As for communication, it wasn’t, there was so much pre-planning gone into those answers it’s unreal. Like reading from a script those answers were. Wouldn’t mind betting those questions had to be submitted prior to the interview so they can script their answers. Any journo worth their salt would of countered half them answers, with a follow up/on question.
And 80 applications 😆 don’t believe it, not from credible candidates anyway.

      (Quote)

  47. 80 aplications for our great club but not one company enquiring about advertising around the stadium. 🙄
    Pure bullshit alround.

Depressing ****, think its bed time 👿

      (Quote)

  48. The only thing I can conclude if Charnley is telling the truth is that they think there is zero chance of relegation. If Carver loses the next three though, they must have a plan to bring in Garde or for God’s sake Kinnear?

Ashley knows how to pick his MDs/DoFs – a City Lawyer, a violent dwarf (Wise), a mental has-been (Kinnear), a Casino Manager and now a pencil pusher. Does he just throw names of people he met at a benefit in a hat and pick one?

      (Quote)

  49. MBiwa played for Roma today. If it is true that there is a 20 game threshold to activate a transfer he is only 1 game away. That would free up a space on the 25 man squad, plus money and salary space. You have to believe they cannot be relying on Coloccini and Williamson for the rest of the season? I know we have Dummett, but he is untested having played only two or three times at centre-back.
