Transfer Wrap – January 2015

Well here we go again, no new players in and a heap of fringe players out. These transfer windows are no longer a source of potential excitement as we wait for new players to be signed. Actually, they are less like a window and more like an exit door at the moment. Most of the younger players we have loaned out have been no where near the first team this season so if they get first team action at Rangers it can only be a good thing as far as I am concerned. The lack of incoming players has always been a source of frustration and anger and that is set to continue as the season enters it’s later stages. For the record here is what transpired for all clubs.

Well there it is.. One thing that stands out is that clubs seem to be shedding a lot of players to lower division English clubs and abroad. It’s interesting to see Spurs and Liverpool were also clubs not to open the cheque book this window. Maybe the financial fairplay rules are having an effect??

Anyway, it is as you were (minus a few players) for Newcastle and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. We can only hope that we are not hit with too many injuries over the last stretch of games. We have Abied, Aarons and DeJong on the cusp of being fit enough to get a start in the first team again so there is a sliver of light at the the end of the tunnel.

  1. Watching the spurs match again, England should build their team around kane. For such a big lad his movement is impressive. Plays the offside line well and is totally natural with feet and head.

I wonder if Kane and sturridge would form a decent partnership

  2. Quite right, Troy.

I’m not going today, would rather watch from my couch. That’s apathy for you.

  3. Gashley@601, couldn’t agree more mate. Exciting times ahead perhaps for English football, because despite all the hype Kane really does look like a class act. Really liked the look of the young lad Jordon Ibe who debuted on the right side of attack for Liverpool yesterday, another strong good young England prospect. England just need to get the central defence sorted out…where have I heard that one before ? 😉

  4. It’s funny how despite the despondency when match day comes around the buzz of optimism starts again… strange really … Howay the Lads !!!

Looking forward to what the Toon can achieve against a tough nut opponent in Stoke City managed by a wily old hand.

Carver against Hughes…. well JC lets see what you are worth…the blather ends here, it’s all about points on the board. Will “his” team succeed or fail ?

  5. Looking forward to todays game but JC faces a much tougher test today. Stoke really are Sparky in team form, tough to beat and tough to play against. We need to cuff Walters and stop Ireland feeding him, Walters got a hat trick last week and will be full of confidence. I think Stoke are more than capable of pushing for Europe but if we beat them we leapfrog them and just maybe we could mount our own Europa spot challenge.

  6. By the way watched MOTD and how lucky were Palace, Leicester should of romped home, could of had 4 goals with more luck.

      (Quote)

  7. Every time I watxh MOTD, Kim I realise how poor the league is when you take the top 5 out of it and it makes me more annoyed that we don’t make the effort to improve and compete to try and get in the top 6. We’re never that far off but always let ourself down when we go backwards instead of forward.

      (Quote)

  8. KIM you always need luck in games at times but Pardew always had more than his fair share even the year we finished 5th he was very jammy in a lot of games we should not have won his luck even saw a lot of PL teams going through rough patches at that time, but enjoy your luck while its there

  9. No optimism from me today. 🙁
I think our defence will be torn to shreds, by stoke.
We may well score, but not as many as them.
Their first goal will probably come from a free header in the box.
    Unchallenged as per normal.
    Happy Days

  10. I assume now that Aussie has been chased away, that there will be no new thread for matchday etc.
    👿

  11. BB well Carver said he was happy with the window and was happy with what he had even let Santon go,so let’s see eh? I have my doubts

      (Quote)

  12. BB@613, looks like it mate regarding Aussie being hounded out.

It still amazes me that we don’t have anyone on the Blog Bench who can step in an put up a five line article which will allow the blog to start from scratch again ?

Like you’re optimism by the way 🙂

      (Quote)

  13. MM there seems a problem getting threads put up some how a couple of bloggers have wrote threads and sent them in but nowt happens

      (Quote)

  14. Stu, aye just 2 or 3 decent signings is probably all it would take.

    Ice@610, totally agree on that.

MM, I would of happily done a pre match preview but if I send it in there is no certainty Toonsy would see it mate .
I don’t know how to contact Aussie for him to put it up. I sent an article in after we lost in the cup but Toonsy didn’t see it or didn’t bother with it. It’s a pity we can’t post articles like we do comments really.

      (Quote)

  15. It’s all a bit strange that Toonsy seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Is this the end of the Blog as we know it ?

Surely it can’t be that difficult to put up a couple of lines in an article. Let’s be honest if AMF can do it it can’t be that difficult ? 😉

      (Quote)

  16. Aussie has done a Pardew and walked. Rumours were that some of the bloggers were holding up placards Aussie out . com 🙄

    Don’t say I didn’t warn you. 😉 you’ll regret it now he’s gone. Pardew not Aussie. 😆

      (Quote)

  17. I hadn’t realised Aussie had been forced out? 🙄 I thought he had just gone in a humongous huff. 🙄

      (Quote)

  18. Stoke are difficult to beat. I’m hoping walters is too injured to play.

If papiss started.. 2-1 or 1-1

    Toon toon

  19. Ings looking a good player. But unfortuantely another player we baulked at paying anything more than a pair of socks and a tennis racket for.

      (Quote)

  20. Big D@631, do your best mate. I’m sure the punters who get on here would appreciate it 🙂

I’m off to the pub meself, but look forward to reading the blog crack later, basking in the glory of a toon win… ahem…

      (Quote)

  21. Stuart79@632, do you know that for sure with Ings, or do you just think that ?

Let’s be honest, if Liverpool have been on his case for a while now no matter of huffing and puffing by Graeme Carr or whoever will convince him to come to the toon ?

      (Quote)

  22. Munich – I am assuming as Burnley will have wanted more than £5m for him and quite rightly so. We won’t pay more than that for a striker since Ashley didn’t think he got value for money buying Cisse for £9m. Look what you get for £5m these days… Riviere! Oh dear.

      (Quote)

  23. Talking of Riviere, I’m interested to see what Sharpy now thinks of him. I’m sure I remember Sharpy saying he’d score quite a few games this season…

      (Quote)

  24. Stuart79@635, fair enough answer mate…you don’t know.

I see where you’re coming from though with your mistrust of Ashley… I suppose the question is whether the player himself has been interested, and for all the blather coming out of the Chronicle I don’t get the impression that Ings was particularly interested in joining the toon. Just an impression I have based on no fact …..

Hope you enjoy the game mate from the comfort of your sofa. Best place to be in the current circumstances perhaps..

    Howay the Lads !!
