Time to lock the fat lady in the cupboard.

HWTL picWell, not long now lads and lasses until we know our fate one way or the other. At the start of every season this is the scenario I dread, I am always worried until we reach 39 points or more. This season I predicted 16th place finish and right now I would snatch your hand off for that lowly position as I’m getting that horrible feeling that the milk is about to sour good and proper.

I have written before about the strange and large amount of coincidences between this season and our previous relegation season, and it’s almost as if the planets are aligning to send us down. Once again it’s us or Hull only now that Sunderland are safe. I have to pay credit to Sunderland who went about their job brilliantly last night and indeed in their previous couple of games . It’s hard to begrudge them their Premier League status even if we did gift them 6 points for the second season running without which they would be relegated already.

So when all the talking is done ( John Carver take note) it comes down to one thing, have we got the team spirit , leadership and togetherness to survive on sunday? Right now I’m really not sure. I worry about the fact that Carver has reportedly told players who are not up for the battle to sit out the game! Does that mean that we don’t get to field a full strength team? What the hell are the club paying their wages for if the case is they can just ‘ sit out’ games that worry them. For heavens sake it has to be a joke right?

Then we have the strange case of Sky Sports tv coverage. The Hull v Man utd game was top billing with the hours coverage before hand. Now suddenly they have switched games and Newcastle v West Ham is the big game! Anyone would think they want to see us go down, I seriously don’t understand the switch, can someone explain it? The Hull game is surely the bigger draw as they will either drop or pull off a miracle win for the first time in 17 seasons. Also given the way we have been playing and West Ham too lately for that matter, it has all the temptation of pair of soggy socks. The pull of devastated Geordie faces is just too much for Sky it would seem.

Right now I just feel sick and can’t see us getting anything out of the game but as always I am living in hope that the players have found their mojo and that John has read up on tactics. Sam Allardyce will relish getting one over on Ashley after being sacked by him and when he says otherwise he’s kidding no one. Likewise Nolan wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep if he scored the goal that sends us down, even if it leaves a certain Andy Carroll gutted come 5pm on sunday.

So here’s to a result on sunday in our favour and to hell with sky sports, Sam Allardyce and all the boo boys getting orgasmic over our possible demise. It ain’t over til the fat lady sings, so lets lock her in the cupboard until 5pm sunday.

  1. It might seem ironic that I, of all people, am doing a rah rah speech @149. It is not though. I haven’t done it 100 times in the last 6 weeks like the NUFC coaches and interim manager have. I haven’t bleated out platitudes and called it 6-5-4-3-2-1 cup finals.

  2. and who at right back. Dummett would be the obvious choice for me too but then youre left with snail-paced bottler Raylor, Anita bottler or even slower Jonas?? which one mate?

  3. Mark @152: if we do not have Willo in the team it takes away the free kick and corner option that this coaching team have used for 2 years with no success. So, Little Vern.

  5. Mark: It is 3.30 in the morning in Chicago and I can’t sleep. In a few hours I will chromecast youtube of “Local Hero” 10 times and get ready for the game. My girlfriend and dog don’t understand, but we all do on here. Carvs understands the passion but is an idiot so can never be trusted.

  6. @Eric Your hatred for Carver is very similar to Troys love for Pardew.

hes a coach. Hes meant to be confident, he cajoles players and gees them up to make them feel good. this is what coaches do. buy yes, he should keep his gob shut 😆

  7. Mark: I don’t hate Carver. I think he is an idiot promoted way above his level.

  8. @Eric. we all know that mate. but lets be honest, he was never gonna knock the chance back. Ashleys fault.

  9. Shamrock, I don’t think he’ll play as they reckon his strengths not 100% yet 🙁

      (Quote)

  10. Shamrock @158: nobody knows about de Jong because NUFC don’t tell anybody anything. He played 20 minutes and scored 3 weeks ago so you would have expected him to be fitter by now. Both he and NUFC said he was not injured but needed to “build his fitness”, but who knows with NUFC?

  11. If he’s fit he should start. We don’t have enough cutting edge in midfield.

Ideally I’d like to see a diamond midfield with Colback sitting in front of back 4, De Jong behind the strikers, Aaron’s on the left and Abeid in a central/right position covering Janmaat when he bombs forward. I’d tell Dummett or Gutierrez at left back to stay there and keep the defenseman tight allowing Aaron’s to just attack. De Jongs job would be.to feed the strikers and bomb into the box, strikers free to attack, Colback simply defending and playing simple passes to feet as the outlet from defenseman and Abeid keeping the ball on the floor in the middle.

  12. Shamrock, Sounds like a plan mate. I have even wondered if 3 at the back would work and pack the MF with two up front.

  13. lol Shamrock

Do you reckon Carver has the ability to come up with your plan? 😆

I’d be surprised if Cisse starts.

  14. When a neutral fan thinks of the best PL teams to Grace the league down the years, they will think of Manyoo and the treble, Arsenals invincibles, Newcastles entertainers, Mourinhos Chelsea and Blackburns unlikely title. Not even Liverpool have been memorable in the PL.

For that reason, combined with the amount of times we have been in Europe/ Champs Lge – our top 4 stadium capacity and constant controversies – yes I think we would be missed as we do belong in the top flight.

  15. I think Cabella could make it. He needs better players and more options around him. Unfortunately, that is not an an option today.

  16. Kim he needs tobundertand the tactic of lump it and hope will never work for us. That tactic is for big sides with bottle, neither of which we have. We NEED to keep the ball on the floor and use our resources intelligently, so Gashley there is the catch. Carver does not seem to have the intelligence. He tries to make the players match his outraged methods when be should be flexible and knowledgeable enough to make a plan fit the players strengths..

  17. Cabella is another Obertan in my opinion. Gets himself into good positions then flaps and wastes the opportunity. Hope I’m wrong and he comes good but he been so wasteful all season and it has nothing to do with anybody else.

  20. Just keep Cisse around the box and give him no other responsibility. He’ll score. Perez can drift out to right flank and cross for Cisse and De Jong when we attack from that side. Come on Carver, try my game plan!

  21. at the end of the day i reckon hull will decide what happens. the toon have things theorteically in the own hands, but since carver has lost the dressing room, a technically poor dressing room i might add, and is bereft of tactical awareness, then things are probably not in our own hands. we have been weak and garbage for months now. a half fit cisse, aarons and de jong won’t change things today against a savvy west ham, no matter how our fans react. the players don’t have it in them.

we have to rely on man utd being up for the fight..

  22. Hull not having beat Manure for 17 seasons suggest that records ripe for breaking, plus Hull DO attack unlike us 🙄

  27. Just one more time for me to believe THE IDIOT wont F it up. One more time to believe. Just one more time… Summon up the spirit of Shearer, Beardsley and Milburn and give it a go. Not for the trite ***** that Carvs says but for the un-trite things that mean something. The players haven’t heard it from me 100 times so it might not be as trite as when Ugly John says it.
