🙄 I have listened to the Mike Ashley’s speech whilst Toonsy has reacted to it on a general level I’d like to pick up on the financial implications.
First off he said that we can now punch above our weight. Well historically we have been back in the pack, best of the rest along with Villa, Sunderland & Everton. There has recently been a 50% gap up to spurs recently. And then to Liverpool with over twice the revenue of ourselves before the big jump up to the big 4. The other thing to consider is that with the new TV deals the revenues each club has is not clear, or more accurately I haven’t done the research. Also does FFP still apply or can he work on the assumption that by the time any sanctions would be applied in three years time the rules will have changed. So what does punching above our weight actually mean. Well closing the gap on Spurs would do that, and Spurs Had a wage bill of £100m in the 2014 season (we spent £78m). Given the new deals I can assume that is going up for the 2016 season. So lets assume that we are going to increase expenditure on the footballing side by say 100%. Lets say that we are going to spend £150m on the squad, and assume that that is an increase of £75m. We will let our increased TV revenues just cover that. Our Turnover was about £130m. We had £35m in Cash, and I see no sign that we have spent it so let’s be gung ho, but reasonable. This is Mike we are talking about.
He said win something, and which like Wenger before him includes coming 4th in the EPL. Now I don’t see tripling squad expenditure to challenge for top 4 as an equal as being a target. Arsenal, Cheapskates of the top 4 had a turnover of £300m and a wage bill of over £165m. I think it’s more if we get lucky, and others have bad years sort of thing.
He said that he won’t be choosing the manager he will be leaving that to Lee Charnley and the football borad, so Lee’s job is safe. But since he did not say anything about John Carver I can assume that he is gone.
He also said that he will provide the maximum available resources but expects the boad to get the best pound for pound value from them. So I don’t think he is going to throw money at the problem big time.
So if we did start to punch above our weight I’m going to assume that we have £35m in Cash with an additional £10m from player sales to spend on transfer fees, and that we are looking to increase our wage bill by £75mpa. This will stretch our finances but not break them.
First up and most important we need a top manager. What will that cost. Looking at the salaries of the top earning EPL managers, Rogers on £3.25m, Pellegrini on £3.5m then Wenger, LVG & Mourinho on £6-10m. So we need to match that and spend maybe £5m to get a top man. Obviously we would like Kloop, Anchelotti or Rafa, but would settle for Moyes. Personally I would go for Bielsa, Emery or Garcia if they were available. Maybe Frank de Boer. Or Bert VanMarwijk. We need to build.
Assuming we do the right thing and ditch the 1st team coaching squad I would like to use some explayers to get a bit more experience and balls into the club. I would bring Ketsbia in as an assistant manager and give Jonas a coaching role. Build to the future. So the staff would be another £5m. However FTSOTB – YCMIU. This would still leave thick end of £65m for Players wages.
Players. Well top players cost money. A top player, a purple to use the venacular, would cost at least £15m in fees so that 3. However, at £100k pw a player costs £5m per year each. So that is £15m of the wage bill gone. We still have £50m to go so we could get 10 free’s however they still require a signing fee which we would have to put through increased wages but still we are likely to be restricted by the quality out there more than the finances.
So 3 top signings and cover wherever we need it. So where do we need it?
GK we are fine although Alnwick is out of Contract.
Defence is the problem but only Raylor, Streete and Satka are out of contract. Our 3 main centrebacks all starting the final year of their contracts So we need to start again basically. We need a CB as one of our Big Three. If we could get Micah Richards on a free as well that would do it for this year. However, he may be on massive wages from his time at Citeh. Actually this is one area where McLaren would not be too bad a shout, he can organise a defence.
Midfield we are losing Jonas & Sammi. But have the Rangers Loanees and Marveaux back. Bit more width and creativity would not go amiss. Again we have been linked with Ayew amongst many others.
Up front we need to find real goalscorers. Ayoze looks good and Cisse can score on his day but we need a 20 per year man. I see Luuk de Jong got that this season. Funny that. There is a 20 year old Latvian Vladislavs Gutkovskis who got 28 this year. Would only cost £½ m. Worth a shout.
Anyway enough fantasy, my point is that spending the money on a top coach is not that expensive and we have enough talent in the squad if properly motivated and used. A few for the first team and a couple on the bench should do it. We can afford it.
Who knows things may be looking up.
By Premandup
CC that’s one of the reason he will not want Carver and company he like his own staff
icedog(Quote)
ICEDOG
would not mind a defensive coach meself cause we aint got a clue how to defend just go and look back over the season and look at how many goals weve gave away
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
if ya cant defend ya dint win nothing
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
TAE I agree to a point but do we really want that type of footy at SJP??
icedog(Quote)
prime example keegans team great attack could not defend for toffee
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
I don’t know what Carver has on them, If you remember when Pardew first got the job JC was put on a short term contract to see if they could work together… :roll
CC(Quote)
I already feel sorry for who ever the new manager is… on a hiding to nothing! Poor *******!
Aussie Magpie Fan(Quote)
Even golden boy Pardew who got away with murder here wasn’t allowed to choose his own staff
CC(Quote)
ICEDOG
would hire a defensive coach meself build the defence once thats done ya can get rid of him and bring in an attacking coach just needs to be told to leave the defence alone
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
The coaching staff have to be torn out, root and branch. There cannot be any remainder. Whatever Charnley and Carr are thinking they should have a rethink and just discard Carver when he is on holiday. The man is a fool and will bring this club to its knees.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
you would not build ya house of crapy foundations and thats mainly our trouble the defence is the teams foundations and weve allways had a **** defence for as long as i can rember,ya can bring in this attacker or that attacker but if the teams foundations aint right its just ganna keep on falling down
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
TAE: your analogy is correct and it should extend to the coaching staff. Root and branch, they should all go. They have shown they have no clue so it is time for change.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Eric that a bit harsh on Carver and his coaching staff mate. You should get on your hands and knees and be begging Carver to stay on.
Stem(Quote)
STEM
dont seem harsh to me i agree with him lol
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
So: a season ending assessment of the coaching staff:
Carver: was in charge of the attack under Pardew. Hoofed it to Williamson on every free kick and corner. Won 3 of 20 when given the manager’s job.
Stone: what did he ever do exactly? I am waiting… as Troysta would say.
Watson: every free kick and corner from the opposition was like an accident waiting to happen.
Woodman: Jak Alnwick!!! Where did Elliot go??? And who decided Krul should be taking free kicks when he can never knock it to one of our players from a simple backpass – never, it always goes to the other team.
Beardsley: we all have a soft spot for him so maybe he is the weed that should be left in the garden, MAYBE?
Eric Sykes(Quote)
we need coachs that can get there point across to the players cause from the outside looking in it seems thats not happening to me
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
as for hoofing the ball looking for williamson every free kick we must be so easy to defend against at free kicks the other teams must be laughing, how long we been doing that 1 2 or 3 years now lol tells me theres a lack of ideas amonst our coachs
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
I’m only joking about Carver and his coaching staff and begging him to stay. I really can’t see much changing in that department.
Stem(Quote)
Our coaching staff have not got a clue even the basic how to play a dead ball ffs when was the last time we scored from a free kick or a corner a bloody long time, most teams will score 12/15 goals a season from dead/corners,how do these guys get their coaching badges,if they have one like
icedog(Quote)
i wish they would just get appointing a new coach over & done with.
someone that…
comes cheap.
won’t rock the boat.
will kiss goodbye to their dignity.
will be ashley’s mouthpiece.
etc etc etc.
– the brolly man is the perfect fit/***.
i can’t see past the – confirmed failure – getting anything less than a 5 year deal.
same **** – different yes man.
roy cropper(Quote)
Ashley is just saving wages at this point.
Stem(Quote)
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< could prob come up with more ideas of things to try than all our coachs put together lol and thats very sad when i think that lmao
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
Stem @168: I know that mate. Because, as we assess the past 5 months we know it was an unmitigated disaster, Jonas aside, and the fact that we narrowly avoided relegation aside.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
Let’s also say Laudrup comes in, and Charnley and Carr say: “here is Jonny C, deal with it. He has experience from playing for Whitley Bay and Gateshead and won 3 out of 20 this year. He does have a coaching badge though and seems to talk to Alan Pardew and just about every other coach in the league on a daily basis (not that that shows any insecurity, like 🙂 ). He doesn’t watch football and prefers golf and cricket.”
Hmmm. I think Laudrup might need assurances that he can sack Jonny C.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
John Carver’s CV to be submitted to incoming manager:
* Won 3 out of 20 in 2015.
* Played for Whitley Bay and Gateshead.
* devised the cunning plan of hoofing it to Williamson on every set play. Success rate 0.1%.
* Never realised the other Managers had figured out the cunning plan and were ready to counter-attack.
* Sacked by every team he worked for except NUFC.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
And some people say I am boring about Carvs. But, I say NO. He should be hounded out of town for being absolutely useless. He is the definition of the current regime’s ineptness, the culmination of the Ashley, Llambias, Charnley no-football-sense stupidity.
True NUFC die hards like Stuart and Troy have given up their season tickets FFS. They deserve better, I deserve better, we all deserve better.
Eric Sykes(Quote)
It’s all very quiet on the NUFC front. Non of the journo’s are doing much on Twitter and Chron haven’t had their usual Q&A
Stuart79(Quote)
the only positives for me this season was janmatt colback and perez and cisse should also get a meantion for his goals, still say hes a 20 goal a season striker only prob is hes spent to much time out though his injury and surspended
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)

TOONARMYELITE(Quote)

TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
Can’t blame Ings if those are his choices. Id go to Spurs if I was him. He and Kane would form one hell of a partnership and have a good shot of breaking into the top 4.
TAE. A little harsh on Tayls, no? It seems his injuries aren’t exactly the ones you can play through. He’s brittle as glass mind
MDS(Quote)
so on expert advice i would try to get ings over the line meself
TOONARMYELITE(Quote)

Blatter just goes on like nothings happened.
Stuart79(Quote)
Especially considering the FBI started their investigation before Russia was awarded the WC.
I personally think the U.S. government had no clue how corrupt FIFA really was until Qatar got the WC
MDS(Quote)

TOONARMYELITE(Quote)
Non-Americans probably don’t realize how rare it is to have the Attorney General, FBI Director, IRS Director, and US Attorney all at the same press conference to announce charges. In all seriousness, the last time might have been when they indicted Al Capone.
Not exactly a good sign for Blatter and FIFA
