Well the window is open now and how appropiate in this heat we are being treated to. There has been an announcement that the board are to have a meeting today to discuss transfer options. Quite why they have left it until now is anyones guess, I would of thought it might of happened earlier unless Steve McClaren wanted to give the squad the once over first. Anyway after today they have little excuse not to get cracking on that first of hopfully many signings.
So I guess the question now is, who realistically can we go for and who is likely to join us. It will be interesting to see if we go down the road of the tried and tested French route again, which looks possible having been linked to Florian Thauvin, but we also seem to be looking at Germany and Holland too; hardly surprising given McClaren coached there.
There has much talk of us going for more domestic players like Austin and ofcourse the ever present Andy Carroll link, for our forward vacancy. What chance we have of realistically landing Austin is, I would think pretty remote given his price tag and the competition for his signature if the press are to be believed.
So do we go British this time or Foreign? or a nice mix of both?or maybe nationality means nothing and skill is all that counts. We also need to have that home grown quota right as well remember.
Who ever we go in for we have to get it right, there’s a big mess to fix and for Lee & co the heat is most definately on.
