Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Are you sitting comfortably? Probably not but I guess we’ll have to begin anyway.

I don’t think many fans, even staunch optimistic ones, will be looking forward to the game today as struggling Newcastle take on the resurgent Reds. Then again we have to play them at some point and we make every one look good at the moment so losing this one won’t be too much of a surprise.

You see there is the problem. There’s a losing mentality among the fans right now and generally feelings like that transmit to the players. This time however it has been the opposite as fans have remained extremely patient and have backed the team to the hilt with very little in return from the players.

But now the time to start performing is most definitely upon us. It’s gone from saving the season to saving Premier League status, again, and that just isn’t good enough.

To ease you into the game you can view the match preview by clicking here as it details all the injury news you need to know about, a (not very pleasant) history of the fixture as well as some stats and facts and general rambling.

I mentioned injury news above and that will manifest itself into the team news which you can find at the bottom of this article a little under one hour prior to scheduled kick-off subject to me arriving back home from my carvery lunch in time, in which case should I not manage that I’ll get it posted as soon as I return.

The other thing to look out for are streams of the game. It is of course live on Sky Sports so our defensive generosity can be beamed live around the world, but for those who don’t have Sky or aren’t in the ground or are too skint in the run up to Christmas to be in the pub then you’re likely to be looking for a stream which you can usually find in the ‘comments’ section below.

So are you ready for this? I’m not.

Howay the lads!

  1. The current tally of 20 Premier League defeats in 2015 equals the club record for a calendar year, set in 2014! (That record will be broken today). They have conceded 65 league goals this year, one shy of the club record 66 goals they let in throughout 2008. (That record will be broken today). Newcastle have fewer points after 14 matches than in any previous Premier League campaign. (Worse that the season we were relegated) Happy days, Mike Ashley the record breaker.

  2. Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Coloccini, Dummett, Sissoko, Anita, Colback, Wijnaldum, De Jong, Cisse

Subs : Darlow, Sterry, Mbabu, Gouffran, Thauvin, Perez, Mitrovic

He drops our only bright spark in Perez while persevering with Sissoko and the rest.

  3. Sharpy: they just had a spot on the pre-game over here on Blackie showing him in the players ears in warm ups on October 18th. The players were ignoring him and they said that it is not his place to be doing this, that it is all well and good during training but is out of place on match day. That he is stepping over his boundaries, that is not the place for a motivational speaker. They wondered if he would do it today and will bring us an update.

At least someone agrees with me. Seriously, I am not making this up. They did a 5 minute bit criticising it.

  4. Pleased to see the forwards of De Jong and Cisse…

Not pleased with the formation, and certain players starting.

Shouldn’t Wijnaldum be playing behind The front two and that Sissoko playing in mid, cause he doesn’t bother to protect the flank leaving Janmaat exposed?

  5. well thats SM’ striking the last nail in his own coffin,

we were **** at the beginning of the season (until Steve realised Perez could play as a forward) we’ve done ok with Perez playing. We’ll do **** without him.

He’ll come on when Steve realised it was a mistake to drop him. too late…

  6. Well That line up surely proves McClaren is not the man for the job .Yet again Sissoko and Wijnaldum out of position and Anita in when everyone knows the lad is not up too the job .Perez benched and Thauvin not picked while we need wingers too put the ball in the box and both can play out wide . FFS If this is not his last game in charge then i give up ,we are going down with this clown in charge. At the back colo should of been dropped with Dummett in the middle and Mbabu at Lb .

  7. Wow no Perez, our most consistent player this season. No width and he persists with our worst performers this year in Colo and Sissoko whilst our most promising player Gini is out of position yet again.

You never know, it might be a master plan that will blow the bin dippers away but I’m not convinced!

  8. Today’s “Big Dipper” will be one that continues to go down with and easy win for “The Bin Dippers” 😆

  9. Master plan? Desperate man loses plot more like. Perez, Mitro and Mbabu should all be playing. Not that it would make much difference . . .

  10. I’m kinda at the point where the football we play comes second to getting points now. We aren’t in a position to be picky.

Mind you the nerves are evident in the players. It’s visible.

  11. To be fair we are not rolling over , which is a start. Sissoko still ***** but nice to see De Jong putting himself about.

  12. Toonsy – that’s been my philosophy for years now, but when our lads can’t string three passes together, or seemingly pass more than 10 yards, it begs the question whether they are even trying for us/the manager. Thankfully we at least look “scrappy” in our challenges, some hope eh.

  13. Dare I say it, but Elliott is looking better every game.
Krul will be next out the door.
    (if he’s got any sense.)

  14. Well I’m amazed we made it to half time with out conceding, still got another 45+ to get through though.

  15. Well not pretty but so far so good. Do you think our team know that the Toon play in black and white stripes? It doesn’t seem so to me.

  16. Boots yes you could be right. Nice to see some output up front. I just wish we had dropped Sissoko too, because he’s still sloppy in possession and too lightweight as well.

I’ll criticise when it’s deserved but on the whole I think McC has got a lot right so far today for a change. Fingers crossed we get something out of the game. Second half we need to actually start moving the ball forward though. It’s great pressing them etc but moving the ball sideways and backwards does not get you a goal.

  17. Perez for Anita( terrible) Move Sissy into the middle to see if he stops sulking in his preferred position.
    M’babu for dammit( shockingly bad)

      (Quote)

  18. Thing that gets me about Sissoko the most is that he get outmuscled everywhere. It’s like he’s never seen the size of himself in the mirror lol

  19. They usually give it to the guy who took teh shot assuming it was on target anyway, but it was a huge deflection and I think migs may have had it covered originally. Good ol Martin helped us out 😀

      (Quote)

  20. Yeah Mitro on for some hold up now surely, they’ve had more chances in the last 10 min than they’ve had all match. And they just had a perfectly good goal ruled out 😕

      (Quote)

  21. People ask what Sissoko can do? That’s what he can do, when he fancies it.

What a fucking class finish by Gini though

      (Quote)

  22. a) I cant believe I dropped Gini from the H2H league.
    b) NUFC makes no sense.
    c) Why cant Sissoko be more consistent? That was a great through ball.

  23. I did say the other day that this was exactly the kind of match we would usually go out and win, when everyone expects us to lose and we’re in shocking form. Can’t believe it’s actually happened though 😆

  24. We are only 2 points behind the League Champions. What’s the panic about?

Villa’s position looking pretty dire now.

  25. WYEAYEDUM does it again !

Liverpool were s**t though and no one will get a better chance to beat them than today.

  26. Hopefully people realise now that we don’t infact have the worst squad in the league, and that the players can fight.

    Gini was simply superb today!

  27. Well I give up trying to understand!!!!. To coin a phrase – you couldn’t make it up!!!! 😛 😆

      (Quote)

  28. I think we made them look bad by playing them at their own game. We pressed the life out of them. Hats of to McC. redit where it’s due, he got the game plan right today. His sacking will have to go on hold, but he’s still on very thin ice. He needs to put a run together and get us up to mid table.
