Don’t look now!

Well it’s fair to say that yesterday should be the final nail in Steve McClaren’s coffin. I think that has to be the single worst performance for a must win game I have ever seen. The day we got relegated we played with more heart than that and that’s saying something.

From the moment the team selection came out it had defeat and surrender written all over it. Quite why he started with Emmanuel Riviere – who has shown nothing to warrant a start – I will never understand. With him there was no chance. With the inconsistent Ayoze Perez (as Steve put it) there was at least that chance – and score he did. It was a beauty, set up with a class pass from Jon Jo Shelvey.

Apparently there is a meeting between Charnley and Ashley set for today. We can only hope common sense prevails and the nice but lost Grin Reaper that is Steve Mcclaren is hooked because quite simply, this cannot go on.

I was never Alan Pardew’s fan but he suffered the hate mob long before Steve McClaren has and whilst in a far better position too. Like Pardew and John Carver before him McClaren seems unable to get a decent tune out of the team. Even more worrying is a lot of the players didn’t even look interested yesterday with the exception of Shelvey, Steven Taylor, and Rob Elliot.

Credit though to Perez and Aleksander Mitrovic who tried to rescue us when they came on. That we are relying on two youngsters to pull us out the mire when we have experienced internationals not pulling their weight tells you how bad the malaise at the club is.

Shearer was spot on with his summary on last nights match of the day; ‘we are a shambles from top to bottom’. Mike Ashley simply must act and right now or we are down for sure. Don’t look now Mr Ashley, but relegation is staring you right in the face. Again.

  1. Do we really want Moyes, or is it another – well he must be better than Schteve?

  2. Basically every Journo now saying if they find a replacement he will be sacked tomorrow.

So it all depends on whether they’re prepared to compromise their beliefs in how a club should be ran to get the right man.

It should be a long term appointment whether we stay up or go down in my opinion.

  3. Kimtoon: hope it is true, except I would have much preferred that we took our time in the summer, water under the bridge…

I am trying to think if I have ever seen anyone say – great game Schteve, you did a great job there. We were under the Kosh from day 1 with 3 points from 8 games..

We were all shocked that we beat Liverpool and then amazed at a second half comeback at Spurs. Shocked and amazed shows what our expectations of Schteve were.

And our disdain for the man is shown by how many on here and other Blogs call him disparagingly “Schteve”, “Wally” or “Tufty”. ****, how can we have sunk this low?

  4. I saw his first real preseason game in Milwaukee (Gateshead didn’t count). We were utter ***** until the 44th minute when Cisse and Sissoko scored. The mid-table Mexicans (Atlas Club) then gave up trying and we were OK after that. The only decent player for us for the whole game was 24 minutes of Aarons.

      (Quote)

  5. Seriously, what must the players actually think when they see statements being put out in their names written by someone they had no idea was doing it? Most likely Harold Bishop, Jabba’s PR guru.

      (Quote)

  6. Kim hope this twitter news is true of course. However don’t really want Moyes as manager either. Pearson doesn’t thrill me either but both are a step up from McClaren. Personally i think we can do better. Rafeal Benitez or Brendan Rodger’s and I’ll be delighted. Sack Carr and bring back Freddy Shepherd as chairmen with Moncur, Lee, Rafeal or Rodger’s on the board.

      (Quote)

  7. The only reason I say bring back Freddy is because his not afraid to communicate with fan’s and loves the club as well.

      (Quote)

  8. Apparently everyone around Ashley has told him McClaren needs to go. Who these people are I have no idea but I assume one of them is Harold.

      (Quote)

  9. Stuart: everybody seems to have given up except a few of us. I think this can be turned around if they make the right choices.

    1. Sack McClaren

    2. Sack Carr

    3. Hire somebody decent. My choice is Di Matteo, but I would settle for Moyes or Pearson at this point. BECAUSE IT HAS GOT TO A DESPERATION LEVEL. Mid-table with some good wins and some bad losses next year I could deal with that.

    4. just don’t get us relegated…

      (Quote)

  10. Stuart: I think you and Troy told Ashley that McClaren needed to go after 8 games!!!! I did as well, but changed my mind, much to my regret.

That’s no criticism of anyone else because we all wanted him to succeed even though only 4% wanted him in the 1st place.

      (Quote)

  11. Carr is your latest little hate project I see, Eric. 😀

I haven’t given up hope, if we make the right decision. But when do we do that…?

      (Quote)

  12. Eric – I told everybody he needed to go before he even started! He is a failure specialist.

      (Quote)

  13. Stuart: my “hate projects” have been totally justified:

    1. Pardew

    2. Carver

    3. Aussies, because they never write anything constructive or about NUFC and just have a dig

    4. I will write a compelling case for why Carr is at fault, but:

    a) I don’t have Shamrock’s e-mail
    b) I hope that the news of McClaren’s sacking would swamp anything I could write.

      (Quote)

  14. And Troy was never a “hate project” of mine. He makes some sense in a Troy way.

      (Quote)

  15. the players letter was total bullshit. Just as I suspect was the bid for berahino.

The club is full of ****, propaganda at its finest. Mike will never change. He’s trying to be perceived as a changed man after his stint on Sky, knowing we’ll probably buy it.

The money he splashed should of been spent ages ago before he flapped about being relegated.

    Expect Pearson if anyone

      (Quote)

  16. Eric. I said I would stop supporting the Toon when SM was mentioned as being a possibility. Hated the idea of it.

I couldnt see the club sacking him or appointing anyone better so thought it was pointless. Especially some of the names being thrown about

      (Quote)

  17. I think Pearson will be the more likely appointment. Huge anti climax for me but in a strange way gives me the impression he wouldn’t give a flying **** who he upset in the squad!

      (Quote)

  18. well for me, I think Pearson it would be a bad idea. more of the same bullshit. aim for10th expect 15th. But thats what we’re about. Pearson is as good as it’ll get. Hope i’m wrong

I could see us going down and keeping Pearson to try and get back up

Ashley has got to be forced out, its all spin at the toon and we’re the ones bearing the brunt of it all

      (Quote)

  19. But Fatty did spend it in the end Mark. He relied on someone (Carr) who made a power grab and was not fit for purpose as the Chron would say. He is a mid level scout and failed manager who recommended players from Schteve’s Twente and a Sports Management Group called Mondial.

Apart from those 2, his other recommendations were Santon and Anita. Cisse was a star at Hoffenheim so Carr didn’t “scout” him.

      (Quote)

  20. Pearson would be the biggest anti climax I could think of being appointed and that’s probably why he will get it. I see Moyes as wanting to be manager with control of who comes in but Pearson would probably accept whatever he got told as he wouldn’t get a bigger job than this.

      (Quote)

  21. What I meant was the only original ideas Carr came up with were Anita and Santon. The rest were related to Mondial and Schteve at Twente.

      (Quote)

  22. I don’t want Moyes. I don’t want Pearson either, but he is better than McClaren. At least he has balls.

      (Quote)

  23. Yes Eric. I know all about the article from the Mag? on Mondial. I totally believe it. made sense from the start.

Fatty did spend but considering we’ve nearly has the same defence for 7 years shows he should of spent earlier.

Even Townsend, a replacement for Thauvin. Shelvey for Cabaye, Saviet for Tiote who was in China having talks, all signing that were just replacements.

The berahino fake bid was the cherry on the top. was never gonna happen, but looked good for Ashley. Probably another Bishop spin. Lets see if we eventually spend that 25mil in the summer on 1 player….

Schteve looks totally defeated and demoralized in that picture. And rightly so, with his bag’s packed.

If a picture can say a thousand words then that would be it.

      (Quote)

  25. Gashley: I didn’t read anything from The Mag about Mondial. Someone on Ed’s blog referenced them on transfermarkt a few months ago.

      (Quote)

  26. Mark: i was not having a dig at you btw. I read what I wrote and it may come across that way.

      (Quote)

  27. Stuart: so this must make McClaren’s job untenable? He won’t resign – they will pretebd it was a mutually agreed up separation.

      (Quote)

  28. Gash at 22.51. I hadn’t seen that before but it does confirm all of my suspicions.

The Mag write a ft of tripe so I don’t always click on their articles.

  29. I’m not sure if that’s the original I read. There was more links to Carr I’m sure but can’t be arsed to look for it 😆

      (Quote)

  30. Mark: when I saw a link on Ed’s blog a few months ago I was very shocked that Carr had such a good reputation and hadn’t really done any work. Add the Twente and Schteve connection and it is EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES.

  31. Well, I have to finish my dinner and do some fantasy football updates (yeah right 🙂 ) so can somebody wake me up when we sack McClaren as it will be the middle of the night here.

I don’t want Moyes, but expect that is who we will get.

  32. Gashley @23.02:

****** Hell. I haven’t seen that before. Makes Carr look like a Stooge as well as his own stooge Charnley…

Do we have any management to speak of?????????????????????????????????????

      (Quote)

  33. I knew Carr was a stooge for Mondial, but I thought that was him just being lazy and incompetent. Not corrupt!

  34. I would love to see Rafa here but would be pleased if we get Moyes. Not brilliant but well disciplined who likes a tight defence. Shirkers like Sissoko wont last long under Moyes.

Theres not much chance of Rafa but it would be a step in the right direction.

  35. Ha ha ha
    Rafa
    Moyes
    Rogers
    fantasy football gone mad
even Pearson, all hillarious stabs in the wishful dark.
My guess, if its not to be the Grin Reaper to the end of the season, would be Cathro.

  36. Now, Pardew wasn’t sacked
    Pardew never walked either
Pardew was SOLD for nigh on £4M.
I doubt the fat **** even paid him that in wages over the term of his contract.
    YCMIU
I still think Cathro will be the man to take over.
as Tory Boy would say, look at the history.

  37. Independent are saying SM will take training tomorrow morning and Derek Llambias may return.

SM: There was a certain edginess and you could see that in our play. We lost our shape. Normally we are a good attacking team, 😯 but today we were poor on the ball. You can only say that the pressure got to them. I can’t see any positives but we have to stick together – as a staff and as a team – and fight.”

      (Quote)

  38. I will still write something on the connection between Mondial – Carr – Schteve because that hasn’t been done. The links have not been covered and Carr’s Machiavellian power grab and putting his puppets on the NUFC board haven’t either. Carr, a duped Charnley and Bobby Concur on the board is not a board at all. No wonder we are where we are when Carr demanded a place on the board for McClaren and Charnley rolled over and let them tickle his tummy. Just like the team do under McClaren.

Sack the lot of them. This is a disgrace.

    we’re going down regardless.
we used up the last of our luck last season, with the great escape. Now we are in arrears, and the bailiffs are knocking at the door.
Ashley stepping in now is too little too late.
52,107 yesterday. Highest crowd of the season.
quite simply beggars belief that we are in this mess.
