Newcastle United battle it out with Aston Villa over international player’s signature

St. James Park

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are battling against each other to secure the services of American international Danny Williams, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

It was recently revealed that Newcastle United are likely to lose the services of midfielder Chieck Tiote this summer.

Along with Tiote, the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Jonjo Shelvey and Georginio Wijnaldum are all expected to be leaving St. James’ Park as well and manager Rafael Benitez will surely have to sign a couple of midfielders this summer in order to fill the potential void.

It is believed that Benitez has already identified a couple of his midfield targets and now according to reports from the Daily Mail (Transfer Feed, June 23, 11:26 AM GMT), claims have been made that the Spaniard is currently considering a move for Reading man Danny Williams.

Williams was one of the stars of the Championship last season and has managed to attract the interest from numerous clubs in England.

Newcastle are reported to be one of the sides keen on Williams and with the American international’s contract at Reading set to expire at the end of next season, the Magpies certainly stand a good chance of luring him away from the Madejski Stadium.

Newcastle are not alone in their interest of Williams though and even Aston Villa are said to be mulling over a move for the 27-year-old.
