Former Newcastle United attacker links up with Sunderland

Charles N’Zogbia has joined Sunderland on trial and will be handed nine days to prove that he merits a permanent contract, according to reports from Shields Gazette.

N’Zogbia was regarded as one of the most promising attacking players in Europe during his time at Newcastle United and then at Wigan Athletic but the winger endured a terrible spell at Aston Villa last season.

The Frenchman was handed only 41 minutes of Premier League action throughout the course of the campaign and it was no surprise whatsoever in seeing him leave Villa Park upon the expiration of his contract at the end of last season.

Despite his struggles at Villa though, N’Zogbia has managed to attract the interest from a few clubs this summer and recently, claims had been made that Sunderland were ready to take a chance on the 30-year-old.

Now according to the Shields Gazette, N’Zogbia has been picked up on a trail by Sunderland and will be handed a chance to earn a permanent contract if he manages to impress during the Black Cats’ nine-day training camp in Austria.
