Defender says Newcastle United are as big as Celtic

New Newcastle United signing Stuart Findlay has stated that the Magpies are as big as Scottish giants Celtic.

Newcastle United completed their fifth signing of the summer yesterday by snapping up centre defender Stuart Findlay from Scottish champions Celtic.

The 20-year-old joins Newcastle United on a free transfer and the Magpies will be hopeful that the giant defender will be able to flourish at St. James’ Park during the upcoming Championship campaign, especially following the departures of stalwarts Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor.

Upon the completion of the transfer, Findlay has gone on to state that he has been left very impressed by the passion of the fans in the city and has stated that Newcastle are as big as Celtic.

Speaking the club’s official website, the youngster said: “When I came here I was shocked how much the immediate City are just in love with the club

“ At Celtic in Glasgow, it’s very much a divided city between Celtic and Rangers, but I’ve never experienced an atmosphere like this, where everyone’s singing from the same hymn sheet and they’re all rooting for one club. To have that many passionate fans of a club is a special thing.

“I don’t think I’ve had a day I’ve walked out and not seen a Newcastle strip yet. I’m living with a good friend of mine who’s Newcastle daft, and as soon as he heard I was signing here he was willing to let me stay there as long as I wanted!

“It’s a proud moment for me. I’ve come from Celtic, who are a big team in Scotland, but to be able to leave Celtic and join a team who are just as big, if not bigger down in England is a really proud moment for me. I’m delighted to be here.”

The opportunity at Newcastle is certainly a very big one for Findlay and the defender will surely be keen on making the most of it.

  1. You didn’t sign him from Celtic, he wasn’t good enough and was not offered a new contract and released.

Great to see how far the super magpies have fallen.

Makems signed anyone yet? Can’t wait to see who they bring in with the all that premier league money they (and all their competitors) now have. Or is Ellis short just going to pocket it all?
