Update on Newcastle United’s £4 million pursuit of international

According to reports from the Chronicle, Newcastle United’s bid for Blackburn Rovers star Grant Hanley has been rejected.

Newcastle United are evidently looking to sign a new central defender this summer and it has recently been reported that the Magpies are currently considering a swoop for Blackburn Rovers skipper Grant Hanley.

The Daily Mirror reported yesterday that Newcastle were close to sealing the deal for Hanley and a fee of around £4 million had been mentioned.

However in developments which will surely not please the Magpies’ faithful, the Chronicle have gone on to reveal that Newcastle’s bid for Hanley has been rejected by Blackburn Rovers.

Despite the unsuccessful initial pursuit, Newcastle are expected to return with an improved offer as manager Rafael Benitez is said to be desperate to land the services of the Scottish international this summer due to his vast experience in the Championship over the past few years.
