Wijnaldum

According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez wanted to swap Georginio Wijnaldum with Jordon Ibe.

It has been clear for quite a while that Georginio Wijnaldum wants to leave Newcastle United this summer and a host of clubs have been mentioned as realistic destinations for the Dutch international.

Recently, reports had claimed that Premier League giants Liverpool had expressed their interest in signing Wijnaldum alongside the likes of Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now according to reports emerging from the Daily Mirror, claims have been made that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez was indeed keen on doing business with his former side over Wijnaldum.

It has been claimed that Benitez was planning to engineer a deal worth £10 million-plus Jordon Ibe for Wijnaldum but the plans have evidently been scrapped recently due to the fact that Bournemouth have had a bid of around £15 million for Ibe accepted.

Liverpool still stand a chance of signing Wijnaldum though and it will be interesting to see where the 25-year-old eventually ends up.
