Newcastle United eyeing £5 million-rated star from Southampton

Targett

Newcastle United are considering a move for Southampton left back Matt Targett, according to reports from the Sun

Having strengthened his attack with the big money signings of Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has now focused his attention to reinforcing at the back, as evidenced by the recent signings of Jesus Gamez and Stuart Findlay.

Benitez is currently said to be eyeing options in the full back position following revelations that Daryl Janmaat could be on his way out of St. James’ Park this summer and now according to reports, Newcastle have registered an interest in Southampton youngster Matt Targett.

Targett is another graduate of the famed Southampton academy and the youngster has already managed to break into the Saints’ first team, having made 31 professional appearances in total.

It is clear to see that Southampton rate Targett very highly but talks of a contract extension between the club and the defender have stalled and as a result, Newcastle are said to be ready to swoop in for the £5 million rated 20-year-old.
