Championship side Newcastle United have taken former Benfica striker Flavio Da Silva on trial, according to reports from the Chronicle

Newcastle United have been extremely busy in the transfer window so far this summer and it was confirmed recently that the Magpies had completed the signing of Isaac Hayden on a five year deal from Premier League outfit Arsenal.

The arrival of Hayden means that Newcastle have already made no less than six new signings so far this summer and despite the large influx, manager Rafael Benitez is still looking at various options to improve his squad.

Now according to reports from the Chronicle (Live Feed, 10th July, 16:41), it can be revealed that Newcastle have taken former Benfica striker Flavio Da Silva on a trial basis.

Da Silva was sent out on loan at Sporting Covilhã last season and upon the 20-year-old’s return, Benfica decided to terminate his contract.

Following his release, Newcastle have decided to take a closer look at Da Silva and the former Portuguese Under-19 international will be training with the Magpies’ Under-21 side as he bids to earn a professional contract with the Championship outfit.
