Agent reveals Newcastle United’s negotiations regarding international full-back

Janmaat

The agent of Daryl Janmaat has gone on to confirm that Newcastle United have held talks with Watford over a potential transfer.

Daryl Janmaat was one of the few consistent players for Newcastle United in the Premier League last season and following the Magpies’ relegation into the Championship; it has been no surprise to see the defender courting the interest from a number of clubs.

Recently, claims had been made that Premier League outfit Watford were considering a move for Janmaat and a fee of around £10 million had been mooted.

Now Janmaat’s agent, Michael Jansen, has gone on to speak regarding the speculation and has confirmed that Newcastle have indeed been involved in negotiations with Watford over a potential transfer for the Dutch international but added that the deal coming into fruition is unlikely.

Jansen told Fox Sports in the Netherlands, “There has also been talk between Watford and Newcastle. But right now it does not seem that’s going to happen.

“Newcastle have key players, including Daryl, who they don’t want to let go just like that. The club wants to get back as soon as possible to the Premier League and they do not need the money.

“If a good opportunity comes along, we will investigate them. But it’s not a matter of want or need. If he were to leave, he wants to do through the front door.”
