Newcastle United want young defender. A better alternative to Hanley?

Newcastle United are currently considering a move for Swedish defender Filip Helander, according to reports from Gazza Mercato.

Newcastle United have faced a lot of frustration in their chase for Blackburn Rovers defender Grant Hanley after having two bids of around £3.5 million and £4.5 million respectively rejected last week.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have tabled an improved third offer of around £5.5 million recently but despite the sizeable bid on the table, it remains to be seen as to whether Blackburn will agree to cash in on their skipper.

With Blackburn proving to be difficult negotiators, manager Rafael Benitez has had to look at contingency plans and now according to reports from Gazza Mercato, the Spaniard is currently considering a move for Hellas Verona defender Filip Helander.

Helander impressed for Hellas last season even though he was unable to prevent his side from suffering relegation and now claims have been made that Newcastle are currently considering a swoop for the 23-year-old as an alternative to Hanley.
