According to reports from the Daily Mail, Newcastle United want to sign the duo of Jon Flanagan and Lucas Leiva in exchange for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum had been widely touted to leave Newcastle United this summer and the midfielder is now believed to be on the verge of joining Premier League outfit Liverpool.

It is believed that Liverpool have held talks with Newcastle over the £25 million-rated Dutchman and a transfer coming into fruition looks very likely.

Given manager Rafael Benitez’s close associations with Liverpool, the Spaniard is looking to pull a few strings during the negotiations and the Spaniard is said to be attempting to land the services of Jon Flanagan and Lucas Leiva as part of the deal for Wijnaldum.

The Daily Mail reveal that Benitez initially wanted to sign Jordon Ibe in exchange for Wijnaldum but as the winger made a £15 million move to Bournemouth, the Magpies’ boss now has his sights set on landing Flanagan and Lucas instead.
