Georginio Wijnaldum’s £25m move to Liverpool has all but been confirmed. Talks between the two clubs continued after last night’s 2 – 2 draw at Doncaster and the terms of the deal were agreed in the early hours, according to Chronicle Live.
It just leaves a medical and personal terms to be agreed although it would be a major surprise if either caused issues.
There was a twist this morning when it emerged that PSV Eindhoven were entitled to 20% of the fee due to a sell-on clause inserted into the agreement when we bought the Dutchman two years ago.
It explains why the board were adamant they would not sell for less than £25m. Does a similar clause exist for Moussa Sissoko? It might be a reason for the fee being set at £35m; 20% would mean we clear around £27.5m for the French international.
It’s money most of us will gratefully receive if the chant at the Keepmoat last night was anything to go by.
