Newcastle United have seen a bid for Anthony Knockaert rejected by Brighton, according to The Chronicle
Knockaert is valued at around £10m by the Seagulls who signed the Frenchman in January. He had been in Belgium with Standard Liege following his departure from Leicester City last summer.
If Rafa Benitez returns with an improved offer, the winger would be his eighth signing this summer. Former Newcastle boss, Chris Hughton, is in no mood to do us any favours, particularly with Brighton having their own promotion ambitions.
Earlier in the week, Rafa admitted that he still had work to do in the transfer window and this is a sign that he is not resting until it is done.
Whether a deal can be reached will rest with the player. If he is genuinely interested in a move to the north east, such is player-power at the moment that there is little Brighton can do to hold him to his contract. With his experience at this level, Knockaert would be a welcome addition to the squad although I wouldn’t let him near any penalties…
