Middlesbrough have joined the race to sign Everton youngster Brendan Galloway on loan, reports the Daily Star on Sunday.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bring more talent on board and the Toffees are willing to let the young left back leave to gain experience this season.
This is Newcastle so it is not a straightforward deal. Whilst it may be more appealing for Galloway to go to Middlesbrough and test himself at the highest level, it’s believed Everton are more concerned with ensuring the former MK Dons defender gets game time. He is more likely to get that in the Championship.
However, Everton are short of defensive options at present and a deal is unlikely to go through until the Toffees have completed their summer business. Whilst there is confidence on Tyneside that a deal can be done, it seems unlikely to be happening next week as some are claiming.
Koeman recently bemoaned his board’s slowness in making deals and with Newcastle’s hopes resting on them acquiring more players, this one may run for some time yet.
