Speculation over Tim Krul’s future is likely to increase as he closes in on a first team return, reports The Shields Gazette.
The Dutch ‘keeper has been out since last October when he injured his knee whilst on international duty with the Netherlands. Arguably, his absence was a contributory factor in last season’s relegation but the flaws in the squad were so widespread that it is impossible to pin it down to just one reason.
Rumours of Crystal Palace’s interest are the same as that of Juventus looking at him. Just talk. Until someone comes in with a tangible bid, we are on the cusp of missing out on a transfer fee entirely.
With a year left on his contract, it’s inevitable that there will be speculation over his future, particularly with Rafa Benitez having three other first team goalkeepers. There will certainly be at least one leaving in this or the next transfer window, possibly two if Rob Elliot returns to challenge for a place in the starting line-up.
Whilst it’s good to have competition for places, too much competition is a waste of resources.
