Rafa Benitez has set his sights on signing four players before the end of the transfer window with one expected to arrive this week, reports The Chronicle.
The Newcastle boss is concerned by a lack of goals this season so far and with Aleksandar Mitrovic always one hot-headed moment from suspension, has decided he needs more attacking options. Choices have yet to be made on individuals but Benitez wants a target man as well as a mobile forward to support existing squad members such as Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez.
A winger is his next priority with supply to the target man a key element. Rolando Aarons didn’t hammer a marker into the ground on Saturday and Benitez is looking to increase competition for places to improve everyone’s performance.
One player likely to arrive this week is Everton’s Brendan Galloway. The Toffees are in talks with Valencia over Aymen Abdennour but that is complicated by Arsenal’s pursuit of Shkodran Mustafi. Los Che are not keen to lose either and definitely won’t sell both this summer.
Other targets are emerging though and Galloway is expected to make the move to Tyneside before the weekend. Whether it will be in time to make his debut against Bristol City is not yet known.
