Newcastle United are interested in Bas Dost, according to the Daily Star who ask us to believe what Portuguese paper A Bola says.
It’s a tough call; the Star isn’t noted for it’s accuracy in reporting but this one interests us not least because Bas Dost is almost am anagram of seminal 1981 film, Das Boot.
We’re asked to believe that Dost, currently at Wolfsburg, is prepared to swap the Bundesliga for the Championship. Perhaps the Portuguese paper has it confused with the Champions League?
It certainly seems that way as we’re reportedly going head-to-head with Leicester City for his services. Yes, that’s defending Premier League champions Leicester City who can offer him at least half-a-dozen games in the Champions League.
I know Newcastle are a big club – 100.288 tickets were sold for two games last week – but pitching us as rivals for a Premier League club, particularly the champions, at this moment in time is a step too far.
Unless Bost has ambition. If he has ambition then Newcastle United is the club for him; Leicester have done it – we have yet to do so. Win promotion and then the season after, get us into Europe; watch the club fly from there.
I’m getting ahead of myself, caught up in a moment of reverie. Right now, I’ll settle for the promotion bit.
