Match preview Bristol City v Newcastle United

Newcastle take the long trip down south to my hometown city this weekend when they take on Lee Johnson’s Bristol City.
I can’t promise you sunny southern weather since the sun has decided to take it’s own holiday for a while.

Instead Newcastle will be greeted by gale force winds and rain if our local weather men are right. However Toon fans will get to see the newly revamped Ashton Gate stadium which looks very good. I have passed it by on a weekly basis and watched it slowly take shape and it wouldn’t look out of place in the Premier league now and that after all is where Bristol City want to be.

City manager Lee Johnson has brought in a number of new players this summer and one in particular takes the eye and that’s the loan signing of Tammy Abraham from Chelsea. The lad looks a belter and has already got himself on the score sheet 4 times in their first three matches. I have a sneaky feeling he may prove a handful on saturday so our defence will need to cut out the lack of concentration that has proved our downfall oh so often.

Another player to look out for is Aden Flint, a centre back that Sunderland wanted last season and we were recently linked with. I know that City fans were desperate to see him stay with them as he is an integeral part of the teams spine and were doubtless breathing a collective sigh of relief when we went shopping at Blackburn instead.

Lee Johnson says he’s excited at the prospect of pitting his wits up against Rafa Benitez and Ashton Gate will have it’s biggest gate for 25 years helped by the newly built stand which has increased the capacity. Some 21,000 are expected on the day with 2,500 from Newcastle.

Referee for the day will be Tony Harrington from Cleveland. He likes a yellow card does Tony, so far dishing out 17 since the season kicked off. Maybe this isn’t the game to push boundries then.

Newcastle will be without Sissoko again due to a knock, but Diame is back in contention, Mitrovic serves the last of his 4 game ban.

Bristol City are without defender Derrick Williams (shoulder injury) and both goalkeeper Frank Fielding and midfielder Korey Smith are out with ankle injuries.

Let’s hope Newcastle can pick up some more points and build some momentum.

The thing is, it wasn’t even a dirty game. Bizarre. Anyway, Newcastle have won 2-0 and are through to the third round of the EFL Cup. #nufc

  11. Papers writing this morning that Spurs want Sissoko and will offer Bentalab as part of the deal.

I’d take Chadli, but I don’t think we need another DCM – I’d rather have the cash, as much as I think Bentalab is decent enough.

  13. I sometimes really don’t understand some footballers. Janmaat now going to Watford. WTF!

He’s got a good chance of being back in the fizzy next year. Why do they do these sorts of things?

  16. I’m pleased for Rob Elliott & pleased we are looking to keep one of the few players who played with a bit of pride & passion for the shirt last season.
But I still can’t figure out our keeper situation with Krul reportedly getting another year – Sels, Krul, Elliott and Darlow?!?!?!!.

  17. How long did we get out of Aarons last night? – 30mins or so?!.

For me the priority has to be that left side, coz as much talent as that lad has, he’s made of glass and we simply can’t depend on him.

  18. Sharpy – yeah Aarons is a worry. We just have to accept some players are like that. Shame really because he really is a talent. Persistent injuries also stopped Vuckic reaching his potential. We definitely need someone down that left side and Gouffran is not the answer.

Georgio – neither is some kid with a broken leg mate.
I really don’t get that one. Buy him now for January?! – I just don’t get that one like.

I am starting to fear that this transfer window is going to concluded like some many others in recent seasons.

  20. I see Dummett has had his Wales call up – pleased for him.

Hal Robson – Kanu also called up despite still not having a club – I still don’t understand why we haven’t went for him like. He can play the left channel & as a target man through the middle. He may not be a huge talent but grafts hard up front – he would be a good squad option for us I reckon.

  21. Wow!!!

A game & a win last night, multiple injuries, the final week of the window with players coming and going … and this site is deserted!!!.

Have you lot boycott until a new article goes up or something?!?!?!!.

  22. Tis a bit quiet mate – probably the nice weather.
This is some overhaul from Rafa isn’t it. 9 in, 10 out so far and he’s not done yet.
I understood that they’d put finalising the Judge deal off until January and that Janmaat and Krul had both moved because Blind has stated he won’t pick anyone for Holland from outside the top league.
Still no mention of a left sided attacker and that’s a big concern. Having said that I’d be happy if we stopped now and just got on with it.
