Rafa Benitez is looking to bring a Premier League defender to St James Park, reports The Shields Gazette.
The Spaniard is looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur right back DeAndre Yedlin as a replacement for Dutchman Daryl Janmaat who is attracting attention from West Ham United and Italian club, Napoli.
Yedlin spent last season on loan at Sunderland, making 23 Premier League appearances. A permanent deal with them never materialised amd Rafa Benitez is set to offer him the chance of playing for a proper footballing club.
With 39 international caps awarded to Yedlin by the United States of America, including appearances at the 2014 World Cup finals and the Copa America Centenario this summer, no-one can question that the right back has the experience we need.
The move to White Hart Lane stalled the 23 year-old’s career and a move to Tyneside with a relatively guaranteed first team place, may appeal to a player whose international ambitions remained undimmed.
