Newcastle United planning surprise swoop for £13million-rated Premier League star

Championship side Newcastle United are considering a shock move for Everton star James McCarthy, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

James McCarthy has established himself as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League since his move to Wigan Athletic from Hamilton Academical in the summer of 2009.

A £13 million move to Everton has further enhanced his reputation and the 25-year-old has been attracting the interest from numerous clubs over the past few seasons.

Therefore, the Daily Mail had surprised many by claiming that Everton boss Ronald Koeman is looking to dispense with the services of McCarthy for the right price as he prefers new signing Idrissa Gueye alongside veteran Gareth Barry in midfield.

In a further development, claims are being made by the Daily Mail that Newcastle are exploring the possibility of signing McCarthy this summer.

Everton are said to be interested in Newcastle star Moussa Sissoko and the report state that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is hopeful of brokering a deal for McCarthy if indeed the Toffees persist in their bid for the French international during the upcoming week.
